Back in 2007 when the whole spell incident occurred. The Malone family had invited Charles Kovar over to their house for dinner, one night. That night just so happened to be, probably the worst night of Charles’ life.
The night started off like usual except not because I had finally brought over my new friend from school, we had been friends for about a month and my parents finally agreed to let me bring over my human friend. For the majority of the time Charles and I played our little kid games, like tag and hide n’ go seek. After our games we read some old comics from the attic then set up some movies and watched as many as we could until my parents called us down for dinner.
Once dinner was ready Charles and I were called downstairs to join my parents at the dinner table, when we got to the table we picked our spots; my usual spot and Charles’ new spot beside me. Which used to be my brothers spot when he still lived with us.
That was of course before he turned sixteen and joined the army, I was five at the time and never understood why he left. Until one day when it hit me that he left because dad and I were vampires and he was not.
After dinner Charles and I ran off to go finish our last movie before we were to drop him off at home, however that's not exactly how it ended up working out.
When the movie was over we ran downstairs to get all of our stuff ready and clean up our mess we made earlier, however according to my mother this was the first and last time we ever did that without needing to be told. Even though Charles doesn't live at our house he comes over so often that it's like he does, so after a while my parents starting acting like he does. Which includes helping with the clean up of our messes and doing the chores around the house when he comes over and it's my day to do certain ones.
When we were all done cleaning up, I was about to walk him out the door when my dad had called me over for the usual hug and the whole “be safe out there routine” however this time was different. My father wasn't looking at me like usual, it began that way but the closer I got the angrier and the more distant he began to look.
When I got close to him I stood in front of him and called him by what I knew him as “dad? Are you okay?” After I finished my question he looked down at me then up at Charles who was standing by the front door. Next thing I knew he pushed me aside so hard that I basically flew across the room and hit the wall under the stairs in the living room, to this day the dent of my back is still there.
Once my ass hit the floor my dad went after Charles in his almost full-on-vampire mode his eyes were red and his veins were obvious and bulging out of his head like an angry bald guy. Luckily for Charles my mother was there with a frying pan within seconds. When she heard the growling and Charles’ screaming coming from the living room my mum knew something was up and grabbed the closest thing there was then rushed out to hit my father over the head with it.
Once my dad was knocked out cold because of the frying pan my mum got on the phone with Charles’ foster parents to let them know that he would be sleeping over and that he would be home tomorrow after school which we would be taking him to.
Afterwards she hung up with them and dialed up a number I didn't know, when the phone call was over she put the phone down, grabbed her coat and started putting on her boots. When she was all ready with her hand on the doorknob she looked back to see that we were just standing there in shock, staring at her with confusion not knowing if we should be going with her, taking off our coats and what we should do with my unconscious father.
