Finding or building a good shelter could be the difference between life or death. A good and stable shelter can protect you from rain, snow, zombies, insects, other survivors and dangerous animals. There are a few things you should remember while building your shelter.
~ Make sure it's hidden, otherwise, it's likely that another survivor will break in and steal your supplies.
~ Try to cover the roof with a waterproof material, such as a plastic sheet. This will not only stop rain from getting into your shelter, but it will also trap some heat that would escape through gaps in the roof.
~ Your shelter must be fortified. It can be something as simple as a few spears pushed into the ground to keep out wandering zombies. I would suggest using a few empty cans and some string. Tie them together and make sure the string or rope is long enough to go around the outside of your shelter. You can easily step over it when leaving and entering your base, but zombies, and maybe even other survivors, will walk into it, to let you know that you're not alone. This also gives you more time to plan a defensive strategy.
~ Don't build a shelter in a heavily populated area because where there were more people, there'll be more zombies.
~ Use height to your advantage. Building a shelter on a hill, mountain or roof will not only make you safer, it will also allow you to see a lot further around you.
~ Plan out where you could possibly build a shelter or a base before an outbreak begins, so you have more time to gather useful materials. It will also give you a stronger sense of purpose when an outbreak does begin if you've already planned out where you need to go and who to go with.
