Mia
Song: Topsy Turvy
I chuckled as Brysiese made her way to the kitchen to annoy my moms. “Hope you like Thai food.”
Lucas glanced down at me then the kitchen before answering. “Um, yeah.”
“I think you met everyone now.” I said trying to find something to talk about. “We’re a little dysfunctional but everything seems to work out.”
“Wait, wait, wait.” he shook his head. “Is Brysiese your sister?”
Where the hell did he get that? “No, she’s my best friend. We just call her family.”
He seemed to calm down at that. “ So she’s your best friend, but you call her family?”
“Yeah?” what is he on about?
He shrugged like he was happy with the explanation, said “Ok.” and wondered to our new couch. “This one is new.”
I rolled my eyes. “Gee, I wonder why that is. It couldn’t possibly be because I broke the last one with you face, now could it?”
“No need to be sassy about it.”
“You saw me naked!” I yelled.
Lucas grinned at me. “Yeah, and let me just say, those stripes made your butt and tits look so much more inviting.”
Without even thinking, I kicked his face into the wall. He slid down, his face landing onto the floor with his butt up in the air. “Pervert.” I mumbled, crossing my arms. How dare he mention something like that! He had no right to see like that!
Lucas quickly recovered, blood dripping down his chin before he wiped it off with his hand. “You know,” he started. “I do believe we still haven’t finished our conversation from last time.”
“And we never will.” I countered. “I thought we went over this Lucas. There’s no way for you to steal my heart. It’s protected from people like you.”
He huffed and crossed his arms over his chest, a sign he was getting annoyed at me. “And what kind of people am I like?”
“You know.”
“No I don’t Mia.” his voice was crisp and sarcastic. “I don’t know.”
“People that use others to gain whatever they want.” I snapped. “You charm girls with your looks and change your personality to fit whichever girl you’re currently after to try and get her panties down.” I could feel my own anger rising at the thought of him with every other girl in school. Mains, Sides, even a few Blanks. “You’ve gone and tricked innocent girls into thinking you love them and when you get what you want from them you leave! Do you even know what that does to a person, much less a teenage girl that doesn’t even know she got duped?! It hurts them! So yes, people like you Lucas! I make damn sure not to fall for people like you because I know you’ll just use me and then throw me out when I don’t convenience you anymore.”
“That’s not true!” Lucas protested.
I scoffed. He did not just try to lie to me. “So it’s not true that you had sex with all those girls just to mark down your little bucket list?!”
He looked away with a nervous blush. “Well that part is true,” he mumbled. “But if you just-”
“And it’s true that I am one of those names on that list?!” I shouted, I could feel tears well in my eyes but I kept them back. I can’t fall in love with him. I can’t fall for his stupid smile and that little glint he gets in his eyes when I make him laugh. Or whenever he pulls away from those kisses, looks me in the eyes like I was his treasure. “Tell the truth! Tell me, you’re doing all of this just to fuck me! That you don’t have any feeling towards me!”
“Mia,” he whispered. He took a few steps in towards me and touched my arms. “I can’t.”
I looked down losing control of my emotions, feeling the tears fall down my cheeks as I screamed at him. “Why not?! Why can’t you say it?! Just say those four fucking words! There’s no way you can love someone like me!”
“Damn it Mia, I can’t say it!” Lucas shook me, making me look up at him. He was angry. His usual grin was gone and his face was scrunched up with concern and frustration. “God Mia, listen to yourself! You sound like you don’t deserve this! Yes, at first I was going after you to see if I can flirt my way into your pants but that changed the more I spent time with you. I started to fall for this beautiful, spunky girl that could kick my ass in a second if she chose to. She can bake, and cook, and sometimes I swear she’s bipolar but it doesn’t matter because I love you!”
“I am not bipolar! How dare you say that!”
Lucas sighed. “I just said all these great things that I love about you and all you hear is me saying your bipolar?”
I could feel my head swimming. “What?”
“Are you an idiot? I love you!” he said. “I came to take you out to tell you I actually have feeling for you. That’s what this whole fiasco has been. I’ve been walking around with this in my head for days Mia and it wasn’t until Chris pointed it out.”
I stared at him with disbelief. This has to be some sort of dream. I’m gonna wake up in my bed with one of my moms shaking me awake for dinner and we’re all going to just go on with our days. “O-okay.”
“Okay? Is that all you’re going to say?”
“Thank you?”
He sighed again. “Please do not start telling me gross animal facts like last time.” he whispered in defeat.
I couldn’t think of anything, my mind was completely blank from his rant. “Uh, the human penis can get bitten off my by a woman if need be.”
“You know what? I’m gonna give you some time to think about what I said and then, when you’re ready, you can give me your answer okay?”
With a nod of my head, Lucas kissed my cheek and left. My mom came out as soon as the door shut with a wooden spoon in hand and a disappointed look.
“Aw, did he leave? I wanted to try the hot sauce prank on him.”
