“Right now if you would like.” Toriel said finishing her pie.
“Awesome!” Chara said, rushing over to the oven. Toriel got out of her seat and followed Chara into the kitchen. She then handed Chara the recipe.
“Here is the recipe for the pie. Asriel can help you with making the pie when he's done with his. And if you need help, just come and find me. Meanwhile, Asgore and I will have to go to a meeting with the royal scientist.”
“Okay then! Bye, see you later!” Chara said.
“Goodbye, and please be good my child.” Toriel and Asgore then left to go to the meeting with Gaster.
Chara looked at the list. “It says we need butterscotch. Do you know where that would be?”
“Uh, my mom keeps the butterscotch in the cupboard, up there.”
“I can get them if you boost me up.” Chara said. “Can you do that?”
“Yeah, here. Step on my hands, then I will boost you up.” Asriel said putting his hands out.
Chara climbed up and opened the cupboard. “Here it is!” She exclaimed, pulling it out of the cupboard, then climbed down. “What's next?”
“It says that we need some cinnamon.”
“And where is that in the cupboards?”
“It should be right next to the butterscotch.”
“‘Kay, I'll need to climb up again. Sorry.”
“It's fine! I am your assistant after all!”
Chara climbed up again, then reached into the cupboard. “Got it!”
“Cool! Now what do we do now?”
“Well, what’s next on the list?”
“It says we need flour, sugar and some milk. The flower and the sugars are over there, and the milk is in the fridge. I can go get the milk if you want.”
“Okay, thanks.” Chara went over and grabbed the bags of flour and sugar that were sitting on the counter, then looked at the list. “It says we also need two cups of butter. Where would we get that?”
“Oo! I know! My dad has a garden with buttercups in it!”
“Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go get them!”
“Follow me! They're over past this hallway!” Asriel said leading Chara through the castle.
“Wait for me!” Chara said, running to catch up.
“Here we are!”
“Wow, there’s a lot of flowers here! But are you sure we can just pick them without
“My dad has so many he probably won't notice. Anyway, how many buttercups did we need?”
“I think it said three.”
“Let's start collecting then!”
Chara bent down and grabbed two large flowers, and Asriel grabbed one. “Okay, let’s head back!”
“I'm so excited! I've never tried to bake a pie before! It's gonna be so good!” Asriel said, starting to walk back to their house.
“Have you baked other things before?” Chara asked him.
“I help mom with dinner, but she does all the baking stuff.”
“Oh. So, who should we have try the pie first?”
“How about my dad! He will probably say our pie is good no matter what.”
“Okay then. Let's get started!” Asriel and Chara then followed the recipe and put the pie in the oven just when Toriel and Asgore got home from the meeting.
“Something smells good!” Asgore said as he walked in the door. “Did you kids make something?”
“Hi Dad! We made a pie for you! I hope you like it. We worked really hard on it!”
“Well, I can't wait to try it! But first, let’s have dinner.”
“What are we having?” Asriel asked.
“I was planning on snail quiche tonight. All I need to do now is cook it in the oven and it will be ready to serve.” Toriel said.
“Okay then.” Chara said, turning to Asriel. “We probably have a little bit before dinner’s ready. What do you want to do?”
“We can go to my dad’s garden and play there!” Asriel exclaimed.
“Okay.” Chara agreed. “Let's go!” They then went into the throne room and played in the flowers for a bit. After a while they returned to the house to check and see if dinner was ready.
“Hey mom, is dinner done yet?” Asriel asked stepping into the kitchen.
“Why yes it is. It will only take a few moments to cool. Will you and Chara please set the table?”
“Sure.” Chara said. “But, um, where is the silverware and kept?”
“Right below the sink.” Toriel replied.
“Okay.” Chara said, opening the door underneath the sink, and pulled out everything needed to set the table. “Asriel, can you grab some of this?”
“Yep!” Asriel said taking the plates and setting them on the table. After they finished, they sat down and Toriel served everyone some snail quiche.
Chara at first was hesitant to try, but eventually took a small bite. “This is good!” She said, surprised.
“Of course it's good! My momma made it!” Asriel said scarfing down his food.
“Asriel, do not talk with your mouth full. And Chara, I am glad you like it.”
“I've never had food this good before.” Chara said gratefully.
“It is nothing. Please, if you would like more help yourself.” Toriel said smiling.
“Thank you.” Chara said, putting more onto her plate.
“So, what did you two do today?” Toriel asked.
“Well, we went to Hotland.” Chara started.
“Did you have fun there?”
“Yeah, it was interesting…”
“We went and saw Gaster! It was awesome!” Asriel said jumping out of his seat.
“He was neat.” Chara said.
“Splendid. I am very happy that you are having a good time down here.”
“Yeah, it's pretty cool down here. Um, did you want to try the pie now?” She asked Asgore.
“We’re done with dinner now, so sure.” Asgore replied.
“Great!” Chara said, then went to get the pie. “Toriel, where are the knives, so I can cut it?”
“You don't need to cut it. I can cut the pie for you.” Toriel replied.
“Okay then.” Chara said as Toriel got up from the table. “If you had told where they were though, I could have done it myself.”
“Knives are not safe. It is okay, I enjoy cutting.” Toriel said taking out a knife from a really shelf. She then cut the pie into eight pieces. “There you go, it is now ready to be served.”
Chara put a slice on a plate and gave it to Asgore. “Here you go.” She said, setting it in front of him. Asgore took a bite.
“This is almost as good as Tori’s!” He said.
“Really?” Chara asked.
“Yes. This is amazing!”
Toriel suddenly remembered something. “Children, I just realized that we don't even have any butter! Where did you get the cups of butter from?” She asked Asriel.
“We used the flowers in dad’s garden. Was that okay?” Asriel asked, worried.
“What?!” Toriel exclaimed.
“Did we do something wrong?” Asriel asked.
“Those flowers are extremely poisonous!”
“We didn't mean it!” Asriel said, tears forming in his eyes.
“It’s okay. We know you didn't. Asgore, go drink some water and then go to bed.”
“Heh heh. Sorry.” Chara said, her head bent downward. “It just made sense to use them, since they were called buttercups. Haha.”
“It is okay my child, if you only used two flowers, then Asgore will recover.”
“Haha, yeah, except, I guess we read it wrong and, haha, used three. Oops.”
“I will go tend to Asgore. Please, do not cause anymore trouble.” Toriel hurried over to Asgore.
“Sorry Asriel.” Chara said. “Guess I can't bake anymore, huh?” Asriel was on his knees and bawling.
“I-I didn't mean to hurt him. I don't want to hurt anyone!”
“Az? Are you okay?”
“Why was I so stupid?”
“You weren't being stupid. I didn't know either. Just laugh it off.”
“But we hurt him. How is that funny?”
“We screwed up. Laugh at that. Laugh at yourself being stupid.”
“I-I don't want to laugh at someone getting hurt.”
“Then don't. I'm sorry, okay?” Asriel looked up at Chara and got up.
“I want to say sorry to him.” Asriel said, wiping his face.
“Okay, I'll come with then. It's my fault too.” They both then walked up to Asgore’s bedroom door. Toriel emerged from the room.
“You two may go in there for a bit while I get Asgore a glass of water. When I return you two will have to leave so he can rest.” Toriel rushed off into the kitchen. Chara and Asriel both walked into the room. They could both see that the poison was already taking hold.
“Dad, are you going to be okay?” Asriel asked nervously.
“I should be fine.”
“Are you sure? Me and Chara are really sorry, and… Please forgive us!” Asriel said running over to to his dad and hugging him.
“I'll be fine.” Asgore said reassuringly.
“O-okay, I just wanted to make sure…” Asriel hugged tighter.
“Sorry.” Chara said nervously.
“It's fine.” Asgore replied.
“I am back. Please, children, leave Asgore to rest.” Toriel said, coming back with a glass of water.
“Okay Toriel.” Chara said, leaving the room with Asriel.
“Bye mom…”
“So, uh, what now?” Chara asked.
“We wait, I guess. There's not much we can do now.”
“Well, I'm kind of tired. Can we go to bed?”
“Yeah… Let’s go…” They both returned to their rooms and prepared for bed.
“This has been a really busy day, huh?” Chara asked.
“Yeah…” Asriel said getting into bed.
“So, what are the plans for tomorrow?”
“Anything you want to do.” Asriel yawned.
“I don't know what there is to do down here.”
“You know, a lot of stuff…” Asriel said, starting to doze off.
“Okay. Goodnight, Az.”
~~~
This was different. Instead of Chara being in my dreams, I was in hers. It was strange. “Hello?” I said. “Chara?”
“Wait, where am I?” Chara asked, looking around.
“Your dream.” I responded simply.
“If I'm dreaming, then who are you?”
“I'm Frisk. A…friend.”
“Are you sure? We’ve never met before.”
“Actually, we have. You just don't remember, because it hasn't happened yet.”
“Does that mean you're from the future? If you are, then what am I like?”
“Yeah, I'm from the future. And, um, as for the second question…”
“What’s wrong? Did something bad happen?”
“Well, uh, yeah, I guess…”
“I’m okay though, right? Everyone's okay, right?!”
“Uh, no.”
“W-what happened? Is Asriel going to be okay?”
“N-no. S-sorry.”
“Who hurt him?”
“Well, it was the humans in your village, but you're the reason he went up there.”
“Why would I do something like that to him? He’s my only friend.”
“Well, you didn't know it would happen. Neither did he. In fact, you guys did it to free the monsters. It just didn't work.”
“Why are you telling me all of this? Isn't there some futuristic consequences to all this?”
“I don't think it would affect anyone on the surface. Plus, if it did happen the way I told you, any human that falls down here would die.”
“Are you here to help me not hurt them?”
“Well, I didn't really choose to come here.” I replied.
“How did you get here then? And in my thoughts too!”
“Yeah, the thing is, you’re the one that brought me here.”
“I didn't mean to… I don't know how I would even be able to do that.”
“Yeah, honestly, I'm not sure how you managed to do it either.”
“What were you doing when you entered my mind? Speaking of which, when did you enter my mind?”
“Can you really say I was entering your mind, saying as you were already in mine?”
“Wait, what do you mean?”
“You were in my mind, trying to get me to kill everyone.”
“I didn't do that!” Chara said, denying it.
“This is future you I'm talking about, remember?”
“I don't want to do it!”
“And I never said you had to. I'm just telling you what happened.”
“What do I do then?!”
“What do you mean?” I asked, confused about what she was asking me.
“How do I stop myself?”
“Good question.”
“What do you mean ‘good question’?! You're from the future, right?! You should know!”
“I guess, um, don't eat the buttercups?” I said, shocked at her sudden outburst.
“Really. That's all you have to say to me? Whatever… Just… Just go away.”
“Just listen to me! You made a plan, with Asriel! You ate the buttercups and he went up to the surface to gather six more souls to break the barrier! We went to the surface after you died, and the humans attacked him, and he died! Because of that, Asgore decided to kill any human that fell down! Do you want all of that to happen?!” I screeched.
“We could save the monsters! I don't want them to suffer anymore…Asriel and I could fight back! We could kill more humans and break the barrier!”
“You don't get it!” I screamed. “Asriel won't fight back! You tried to get him to, but he wouldn't! He just went back toward the mountain and died! Do you want that to happen? Do you want your only friend to die, because you gave him the idea to go up to the surface?!”
“I’ll just try harder! You know what? Why should I believe you?!” Chara said breaking out in tears.
“Because I'm telling the truth, and you know it. Come here.” I said, opening my arms to hug her. She was just a kid, after all.
“No! All you humans wanted to do was kill them! You shut them away! Get away from me!”
“I'm trying to help you.” I said, helplessly. “Please. Please believe me. I don't want any of them to die either. They're all my friends. I'm trying to help you. I'm trying to save Asriel, so in the end, everyone can have a happy ending.”
“Nobody has ever cared for me as much as he has. I want to save them. ”
“I know. So, listen to me. Asriel chooses not to hurt any of the humans and ends up dying. I'm trying to prevent that, but you won't listen to me.”
“Asriel plays in a lab! For fun! That doesn't sound like a good life to me… I don't know… Just let me think about it…”
“Please listen to me.”
“I said, just let me think about it.”
“Okay. I'll just be standing here then, mainly because I can't go anywhere else.” I said awkwardly.
“We’re in my dream though right? Doesn't that mean I can do anything I want?”
“I'm pretty sure you can't make me disappear.” I said. “However, I can wake you up.”
“Wake me up then.”
“Okay. I'll try, I haven't done this before…” I said. I think about something scary, and since we're in a dream, I can change into it. I ended up being a dragon. “Boo.” I said, hoping it'll work.
“Did you seriously just say that? Were you even trying to scare me?”
“Yes. I'm not very good at scaring people, that's all.”
“Yeah, I can see that.” Chara said scanning me with her eyes. “What if I scare you?”
“I don't know. I don't think that'll work, since I'm not you.”
“Maybe it would because you can wake me up.”
“Okay. Fine, try it.” I said bravely, though I really didn't want to be scared. Chara smiled.
“Hm. Let me think. Oo! I know!” Chara then stood up smiling even bigger. A red knife materialized in her hand. I tried to move away, but I couldn't. Chara stepped closer.
“Don't...don't hurt me…”
“Who's to stop me? You're all alone here.” Chara said, getting closer.
“Chara, cut it out…”
“If that's really what you want, then I can cut your throat out.”
I started shaking. “S-stop.” I knew that Chara probably wouldn't stop no matter what, so I tried calling out into the darkness.
“But nobody came.” Chara said, only a few feet away.
“Please. Stop.” I said, crying. “This isn't working.”
“Oh it's working.” Chara was now right next to me.
“Don't hurt me…please…”
“Too late!” Chara then went in for the kill.
I screamed, and she woke up.
