It wasn’t until we got to the second floor that I realized I had been holding Maybe's wrist in a tight yet happy grip.
"I’m sorry." I apologized as I let go, "I just get too excited sometimes. No one else enjoys Tiger like I do."
"Actually-" Maybe was beginning to speak until a wild scream interrupted them. You can hear it travel from one end of the hallway to the other. Doors began to shake open as the voice passed us.
"Is it normally this noisy?" Maybe asked.
"No. I think its cause you're here they're showing off." I admitted.
"Really?! So even ghost gets happy to see me. Yikes, I wonder if they'll follow me home!" Maybe chuckled.
"I hope not! That would be bad!" I frowned.
I couldn’t imagine having one of the ghost getting attached to one of us and following us home. It would remind me of that one television series called Happy Days where one of the main characters entered a haunted house in order to find a missing person and a ghost attached to them. He thought it was okay but, it did nothing but destroy his house every day. Finally, he sat down and talked with the ghost and made him his roommate. Boy, did that show have a lot of drama.
"Anyway, he's over here." I crossed in front of Maybe and to the doors that were lined on the right side. I grabbed a hold of the cold knob and twisted it, opening the door.
"Hello, Tiger!" I shouted, stepping foot into the large white room. In the middle was the big ass ghost whose body was a translucent blue. His body nearly covered the room and his head hit the high ceiling. He was once upon a time an Ultier but due to his violent ways, he was banned from practicing the healers’ way forever.
"Oye you bitch, how about knocking first!?" He scolded.
"It’s fine. It’s not like you were doing anything important anyway." I said.
"I could've been! Do it again and I'll flick you like a fly." He threatened.
"Whatever ya old man. Anyway, Tiger-"
"My name isn’t Tiger! It’s Ramananama 3/4!" He corrected.
"Tiger is so much easier. You're a cranky old man." I explained.
"Oh, so that’s why he's Tiger." Maybe caught on.
"And who the hell are you? A Pernal?" Tiger snipped.
"I’m Maybe." Maybe introduced themselves.
"Well look at that! You can pick out some decent friends!" Tiger smiled.
"What do you mean decent?! My friends are decent!" I yelled.
"Not that Altherian piece of shit. The other two are alright."
"Okay yeah, I cant fight with you about that." I accepted defeat.
"What kind of room was this? It gives off a sad feeling." Maybe questioned.
"Oh, this room. I explained it to that thing standing next to you about this room and why it’s special. Do you know the story of the mansion?"
"I do not." Maybe shook their head.
"Well to make things simple, River Head Mansion was the home of a prestigious family- similar to how the Pernal Organization is #1, they were #1 within the small community that was considered part of Pure. I’m sure they got rid of it though. Pures’ were Verses that were rich and wealthy and gave back to their community. They hold something within their body called Light. However, the family that lived here died in a fire that was purposely set by some Verse.
When a Pure is murdered, the Light is muddled and curses are released. Those curses can range from not having good luck to having your first born killed. There was a curse placed on this mansion but one day, a foolish young man who had married Death appeared. He fixed up the mansion and absorbed all of the curses within his body.
This room here belonged to Death. It was painted white in order to keep anyone else out. It was Death's sanction and he sat on the throne from time to time to get away from the noise outside. However, with Death comes Spirits, looking for a place to stay. After the foolish young man left with Death at his side, the Spirits remained here. Although the foolish young man promised to return, it has been years since then."
"Wow. That was a lot sadder than I expected. But why do you call the young man foolish for being in love with Death?" Maybe questioned and I didn’t expect that from them. When I heard the story, all I did was shrug my shoulders and say that this place is the embodiment of tragedy.
"Because you shouldn’t marry something that dangerous! It'll get you killed!" Tiger said and Maybe laughed.
"You could be right about that! But I believe that the young man knew the consequences and still stayed by them. That’s actually courageous. I want to meet him one day." Maybe wished.
"Oh god, you'd be meeting a skeleton if you did!" I said.
"That'd be cool." Maybe nodded their head.
I smiled, shaking my head as I turned around, "You are so weird!" I strolled right out of the room.
"Hey wait for me! I want to see more ghost!" Maybe cried, running out of the room and to my side. The two of us continued to walk down the hall.
"God, you are like a kid at an amusement park." I stated.
"Ooh, an amusement park sounds even better! Although I've never been to one." Maybe admitted.
"Are you serious?!" I gasped, stopping.
"Yeah. Pernal remember? Strict family. Never allowed outside. Rules. Rules. Rules!" Maybe sighed.
"Then if by any chance I can ask my Dad for some Chio(money), I'll take you to one." I said.
Maybe gasped, "Seriously!? You'd really do that!?"
"Of course! You're like a poor deprived child who didn’t stay up late on an institution night." I started to amble and they followed.
"Haha that I am. Let me give you my number and it'll be a date." Maybe smiled.
I froze. Date. Wait, did I hear this correctly? Did the D word come out of Maybe's mouth? Are you serious? Number? Date? Oh. My. God. This can’t be right! No, it isn’t. It's just an activity among friends. Calm down Ninety-One. You're getting a bit worked up. Maybe has never been to an amusement park cause of their shit fuck of a family and you volunteered to take them. That is all. I wonder what else they haven’t done? Actually...I'm kind of curious now what was Maybe doing before they entered into The Last?
