"Wow. That’s gonna take some time to sink in. Why did Ambrosia’s description match mine?"
"Because you are her descendant." I must have had a shocked look on my face cause she then said,
"Let me explain some more about the blood lines. Ethel’s lover, the first vampire, his descendants are the common vampires you saw down in the forest-city. The descendants of the first members of the vampire royal family that Ida created are the Bloodchilds, my family line. The descendants of the angel Ethel created are the angels that exist now. Ambrosia disappeared after Ida was recalled by her mother. No one knew what had happened to her if her line continued, if she died during the war, if she returned with Ida. We never knew until now. Based on your appearance it is obvious that you are her descendant.
"So in other words my sister and I are the long lost descendants of the elf woman who created vampires and was lover of the goddess of night. Okay, could you explain the specifics of each race?"
"You have a sister? Was she with you by the gate? Could you find her if you go back through?" When she mentions Leila my mind goes back to all of the pain and sadness that came with our last conversation and I realize she probably thinks I’m dead. I wonder if she’s happy or sad?
"I’m so sorry." Emilia says. "I didn’t mean to upset you." She reaches out and strokes my cheek that’s when I realize I’m crying. I quickly wipe my face and shake my head to stop thinking about Leila.
"So the specifics of each race can you explain them." She looks at me for a couple more seconds as if judging if I’m alright, which is probably what she is doing.
"Okay, So I’ll start with the race that I know the least about. The Eleven Race. The Elves no longer exist because a disease wiped them out, but they used to be the most magical of the races. They had magic in their blood from the moment they were born. Most elves had earth-toned hair and plant colored eyes. So typically green maybe blue, it varied. They had pointed ears and moved with the grace of a feline. Perhaps that was why Ida was attracted to Ambrosia. They lived in the southern forests and their cities were like ours only they did not have a royal family they had a Council of Representatives. Each cities would send three representatives to the largest tree in the forest every full and new moon to discuss issues. Each representative represented an age group. There was one child, usually at least 150 years old…"
"Wait! You were still considered a kid when you were 150!"
"Oh right I forgot to explain. The elves age at a tenth of the speed of a human, so a 150 year old elf would look like a 15 year old. So anyway, one child, one adult usually at least 200 years old and one elder, usually 800 and older. That is pretty much all I know about the Elves. Next is the angels, the first angel, Mabel, was created by Ethel’s feather. Mabel created others by letting others touch her feathers; her descendant is the only one who can create new angels as I am the only one who can create new vampires. The angels have wings that they can hide by pulling them back into their bodies.Their wing colors typically match the eyes or are a darker version of the eyes. Mabel was the only exception to tease Ida, Ethel chose the changed appearance of Mabel and like what happened to Ambrosia, Mabel had half blond, half russet hair and one blue and one brown eye. Once Mabel had had her children and the future on the angels was secure she vanished into the human realm to live out the rest of her life. The Priestess, Mabel’s descendant, is like the angel version of the queen. Like me she has the ability to transform into her patron goddess sacred animal, in her case, a wolf. The current Priestess is brown haired and brown eyed. The gate to the Angel Realm is at the top of the highest mountain in the human realm. They govern with the Priestess is at the top beneath her are her trusted advisors. Then there are the guards, specially trained warriors who will stop at nothing to protect the temple. Currently there is another faction called the Rogue Angels. The rogue angels want to restart the ancient war against us vampires just for a fight.
*Sigh*
"Now, the us, the vampires. We all have white, grey or silver hair and red eyes our facial shapes are very different from each others and with our enhanced vision it is very easy to tell each other apart. Like the Elves we apparently have a feline grace about us, but that is what humans say. We are of varying skin tones that range from very dark to very pale. We do have to drink blood but that is another long explanation for another time. The royal family is descended from Ida and Ambrosia as well as humans. I have the ability to transform into any cat but my coloring never changes not matter the form. Do you want a demonstration?" I hesitate before I answer but before I back out I say,
"Yes, I’d love a demonstration." When I say that her eyes light up and she hops off her seat darts into the center of the room takes a deep breath glances at me and then there is a white leopard in the room where Emilia had been standing. She walks over to me very casually and puts her head out my lap. Unsure what to do, I start to stroke her big soft head. After a little while a rumbling sound starts. It sends vibrations into my bones it’s so forceful. After some panic I realize that it is just Emilia purring. We sit like that for a long while in silence apart from the earth-shaking purring. When the room becomes dark I realize it is probably very late and I should do, something. Before I say anything it seems Emilia realizes the same fact and transforms back to her human shape. There is an awkward second where her head is still on my lap but she moves quickly.
"Well you should probably get some rest. Tomorrow there will be a tour of the castle and if we have time the forest."
"Okay," is the only thing I manage to get out before a huge yawn over takes me.
"It would also seem you need it." Emilia says with a teasing twinkle in her eyes.
"Where will you be sleeping?" I ask, "Just out of curiosity."
"I will be sleeping in a guest bedroom tonight."
"Wait, don’t you have your own room?"
"This is it. The maids know never to disturb it so I figured you would be more comfortable here rather than a guest room where the maids come in and out of all the time."
"Oh. Well. It’s your bedroom you’re welcome to stay it’s not like I take up the entire bed myself. Besides I would feel bad knowing I'd kicked you out of your own room." I say. I realize that I am probably blushing because I’m remembering our earlier conversation about relationships. I blush even more just thinking about it.
"Well if you don’t mind." She says in a very timid voice which makes me think that she is probably thinking about that as well. Since I’m already in a nightgown under the cloak I take it off and drape it over the chair. She goes and climbs right onto the bed where she shifts and curls up in the form of a leopard. I cautiously climb under the silky soft covers and lower my head onto the pillow. I fall asleep very quickly.
