The Builders and the War Fighters

The Judge

The Judge

Dec 16, 2017

When X-87 reactivated they found themselves in an unusual place - against a wall? When X-87 checked their internal chronometer counted 603,503 ticks since last activation period. They thought many things for a short time: That's nearly 7 Planetary cycles, how did I take so long to reactivate, how did a Builder even capable to defeat a War Fighter in direct combat, why am I against a wall? They decided this was not the time and proceeded with a system analysis. When the system analysis was complete X-87 was surprised to find that all of their vital systems were intact but everything but one of the visual sensors were missing in action. On top of that, the only sensor that was left intact was currently resting against one of the corners of the room. They were fairly certain it was simple reinforced lead but that wasn’t important to their newfound predicament. Naturally, the only thing they had left was the distress signal so they activated it.

They were soon greeted by a series of sound waves that made out the phrase, “If you would turn that off I probably will not break one of these disembodied legs of yours.” Followed by the statement, “Oh, right. I didn’t face you in the right direction after I prepared the presentation.” X-87 then found themselves being reoriented to face the opposite direction. Displayed before them was a typical Builder lab: utterly littered with components of many kinds, along with many large and small mechanisms of unknown purpose. What was peculiar about this one, however, was a rather large holographic screen with an image of J-71 being displayed along with the words “To Present to Attackers” displayed in an unamusing yellow text above the image, and their legs being in a small storage container in another corner of the room instead of being in a fairly un-neat pile. The whole thing made X-87 even more uncomfortable than they were before when realizing their legs and eyeode units were missing.

The device displaying the message began to talk with the same near-monotone voice that J-71 used just before turning them to face the hologram with the statement, “I’m sorry for inconveniencing your/ your group’s purpose in my deconstruction but I am not in the mood to deal with the whole nonexistence thing.” Before X-87 could say anything the hologram interrupted with, “Please leave all questions until after the presentation.” This surprised X-87 into grudgingly beginning to listen. “As you have probably realized your predicament by now, you should probably begin to question why I have decided to capture you instead of just disassemble you and be done with it. It is because I am alone now. Of course, I’ve always been by myself but I’ve always had the chatter of the other builders to keep me company, but there are all gone now. Seeing what happened to G-49 confirmed the theory that an order was called that would soon disassemble all of the Builders on this planet besides me. You may not understand, but I’m going to try to reason with you so that you will not try to destroy me later on. I would first like to know why all of my sibling units had to be destroyed yesterday. Please choose your answer very carefully, as to avoid permanent damage on your account.” Then the hologram dissipated leaving only X-87 and J-71 in the quiet room.
