Some time after putting on the hospital gown, scratches were coming from the outside of the exam room door. Sedah opened it to reveal a tall man. His skin was different shades of white and gray, stitched together like Frankenstein’s monster. He had pure black eyes, a traditional 1800s doctors outfit, spiky black hair, and metal fingers, some of them clutching a black leather bag.
“Dr. Faust, I’m glad you’re here. My friend Anna isn't doing well." The man flipped through pages on his clipboard.
“So, you’ve been feeling cold, tired, and have ice powers?” He asked in a monotone British voice, looking very confused as he listed off my symptoms.
“Ever since I woke up from that crash, I’ve never felt the same since before that point.” I answered, sneezing barely after my sentence.
“Alright, open your mouth, please.” He said, which I obeyed. “Interesting. Your tongue is blue.” He put a thermometer in my mouth and waited a second. “64.5°F.” He grabbed my hands. I noticed my veins were sky blue. “Your veins are filled with methylamphetamine, pure ice. My best guess is that the effects of the high levels of magic in the air is changing your body. That part has no cure.” He dug through his bag. “You need to take sips of this elixir throughout the day, it will rise your body temperature slowly.” He pulled a red liquid inside a small jar. “It’ll be very hot the first couple of times, but your body will get used to it. Also try to avoid anything cold and warm up.” I nodded my head in response as he exited. We filled out some paperwork before we left, but I didn't really pay attention, I just wanted to wrap my head around things. We got back to the car as he began driving back home. I took the cap of the jar and an orange mist left the bottle. As soon as the first drop touched my tongue, a wave of fiery pain was unleashed.
“Holy shit.” I sputtered out, my hand covering my mouth. He wasn’t joking. I eyed the water bottle Sedah was drinking out of and begged him to let me have it, but to no avail.
"Sorry." He apologized. "Can't let you. Just take a nap once we get back." He followed up. He pulled back into the driveway as he finished his sentence. We got out and I headed straight to my room. I closed the door and set the liquid on my nightstand before passing out without even touching the pillow.
Some time later, thuds came from the opposite side of the bedroom door.
“Anna, you doing OK in there? You’ve been in there for a while.” Sedah said from the hall. I felt too tired to get the door.
“Just come in.” I tried to yell. He cracked open the door and slid inside, then slid on the floor. He grunted as he hit the ground. I sat up to see what happened. My whole room was covered in ice. The whole fucking room. Everything was surfaced with blue ice. The mirror reflecting the color of Celeste. Icicles were hanging from the ceiling. My blankets were solid frames and my pillow was a giant chunk. Sedah got onto his feet and almost slipped again. He had to grab onto one of the dressers to keep balance. One thing struck me as odd as I began to gaze around, I didn’t feel cold anymore, but Sedah was shivering.
"What the hell is going on?" He asked under his breath. I turned to him, accidentally knocking over the elixir the doctor had given me. It spilled over onto the carpet floor, only for some of the ice to melt away. Sedah crawled over to me dumbfounded. He picked up the little bottle and put a drop onto the dresser. Same result. He thought it would be a good idea to melt my room with the substance. Long story short, it worked, but we ran out of it. He high fived me in enthusiasm, and to our shock, his hand didn't freeze like the table. We'd actually forgotten about that. With a small feeling of accomplishment in me, a ding came from Sedah's phone.
"Ah shit, I totally forgot to tell you I made plans with my friend. He's supposed to be here in less than an hour!" He exclaimed. "Mind helping me get ready?" I nodded as we began to clean up the house. He put away the heater and spare blankets as I organized the living room. We were done in ample time. Now to wait...
