I stood in the middle of the empty sushi restaurant, wearing women’s basketball ball shorts and a spaghetti strap shirt, my hair was tied up into a ponytail. I waited for Chiyoko and Ryuu to speak to me, at the moment they just looked me over slowly.
“What am I doing?” I questioned, my legs were starting to burn from standing for a long time.
“You’re standing and waiting till Chiyoko and I decide you’re ready to start your training.” Ryuu spoke, he glared at me and Chiyoko smiled at the two of us.
“Be kind Ryuu, Edith is ready to begin her training.” Chiyoko waddled slowly towards the storage room. When she appeared, she had in her arms, three large wooden swords, Ryuu was quick to help her.
Ryuu took one of the swords and presented it to me.
“Do you have any idea what this is?” he thrusted a heavy, dark wooden sword into my hands.
“Uh… a wooden sword?” I observed the heavy sword in my hands.
Ryuu looked rather irritated and he swiped his sword down against my own, the force yanked my sword right out of mind hands. He shoved the sword right against my neck.
“It is a wooden sword, but it’s correct name is bokken and it’s not a toy, Ryuu you can stop messing around.” Chiyoko intervened; she spoke firmly to Ryuu and she didn’t stop glaring at him till her pulled the sword away from my neck. Chiyoko smiled when Ryuu did as he was told.
She turned back to me, bokken in hand, “Pick up the sword, Edith.”
When I was too slow picking up the sword, Chiyoko slammed the wooden tip of the sword against the wooden floor beside my hand. I jumped and looked at her, her eyes once a warm brown were now cold and unwavering. “When I say, pick up the sword, I don’t want you to take your time picking it up. I want you to pick it up as quick as possible!” she swiped the sword down again nearly missing my hand.
“Pick up your sword!” Chiyoko commanded, she brought her bokken to her shoulder getting ready to bring it down again.
I gripped the bokken tightly before scrambling to my feet. I barely had enough time to defend myself, when Chiyoko brought her sword down. I met her halfway, the wood of the swords clanked together and it sounded like a dull thump.
“Good. You are slow but strong.” Chiyoko commented, nodding at me with approval. “Ryuu you take her training from here, I will be observing. You will only stop when I say so.”
I saw Ryuu smirk at me and I felt sweat staring to accumulate on my forehead. “Get ready Sweet-Cheeks, you’re not going to rest for a little while.”
