Recently I got into a bit of an...argument...with someone in the youtube comments. The original comment was a girl saying her principal told her to take off her name tag that was placed over her chest because it would attract the boys. I replied saying that yeah, society is sexualizing things that aren't supposed to be sexual and it sucks. Then some guy butted in and said that boobs are sexy, so of course they're going to be sexualized. I replied saying he simultaneously missed and proved my point, and that men have the exact same chest as us, nipples and all, except for the fact their mammary glands don't usually work (jealousy?), and take off their shirts in public, sometimes revealing boobs bigger than most girls'. Then he replied saying that I should "get over" the fact that I can't take off my top in public, because only guys bodies are made to do that. I replied saying that I only have the desire to take off my bra in public, and I just want the freedom for myself and others to show the world that girls do in fact have boobs, then noted that we don't make female animals wear clothes covering their nips in front of their male counterparts. I then asked if he was part of the group that didn't want women breast-feeding in public, and wondered if he didn't want female nipples exposed because it would give him an accidental boner, and if he sexually assaulted them he, shocker, might actually be accused and go to jail (even if it's just for three months *cough cough* Brock Turner *cough cough*). He didn't reply after that.
The point is, I really think boobs have become over-sexualized. They are not primary sex organs, and their only purpose biologically is to feed babies. Now, if it's a sexual situation where the woman is consenting, then it's ok. But if it's just a public PG setting, then women should feel free to take off their shirts in 100°F weather, same as men, without fearing for their safety.
