You do not know me;
My soul does not come from my loins.
My soul comes from my heart,
That deep vessel of blood
Which pumps its life into my veins.
Its life is filled with love,
Filled with feelings,
Filled with truth;
That is my soul.
My genitals do not define me.
I wrote this when I was about 19, after first finding I was trans. At the time, I didn't know that what I was feeling was maleness, I just knew it wasn't anything female. That's why I titled it "Genderqueer"--that's the label I took for my gender at the time.
