L walks over to the desk, and as he sits down on the desk he smirks as he sees Kayden's signature on the paperwork. He reaches into his pocket, presses a finger to his touch screen cell phone, and begins a conversation with someone unseen on the other line as he straightens up Kayden's paperwork, slipping it into a vanilla folder similar to the other applicant's folders.
"Bring up the injections," L commands to the person on the other line, then he presses another button on the touch screen to end the call.
Moments of silence pass between Kayden and L neither one saying anything to break the silence, the tension in the room begin to grow as it also begins to spread its presence from the floor to the ceiling.
Then suddenly, all the lights in the room go out, sending the room into a crippling dark smog that stretches from the floor to the ceiling. It's so dark that Kayden cannot see his hands, or feet. An eerie silence falls over the room and Kayden feels the chill bumps creeping along his skin as the hairs on his arms begins to stand on end.Kayden swiftly gets up out his chair and quickly runs for the door, only to feel someone grab his wrists and restrain him.
Kayden struggles beneath their grip as they push him back against the wall, Kayden bites the back of his lip as the adrenaline surges through his veins. He can feel his anger raging about inside of him, tearing at his insides begging to be unleashed. This is one of the very few times, Kayden allows the beast which is his anger loose. He feels the veins in his arms popping up pushing against their skin, and he smirks. Even though no one can see Kayden's smirk, or know his intentions the eeriness in the room is quickly replaced with the unyielding will to survive as Kayden's instincts take over.
This time Kayden is able to break lose from their grip and begins to swing wildly in the darkness, he can feel his fists connecting with things in the darkness. His mind is alert, and his senses are sharp, he closes his eyes and begins to listen to the sounds around him. Shuffling feet, quiet barely audible whispers, soft sounds that surrounds him. He visualizes the outline of the room inside his head, the clock on the wall, the doors, L and his desk. He begins his sprint in this darkness filled room and as he feels his feet connect to the top of L's desk. It is at that moment that when he feels a sharp pain, he shutters as an icy cold needle begins piercing through his skin shooting something directly into the veins that ran along the inside of his neck. His head becomes dizzy, and he can feel him himself falling back as he loses his footing on the desk. As he hits the ground, he sees the lights come back on, but his vision is blurry as he sees dark hooded figures standing above him, he can make out the smirk on L's face, and then he begins to blink into blackness, his conscientiousness slowly fading. But his stubbornness begins to take over, and he finds unfailing courage.
"Keep that smirk on your face L, because the next time I see it; I will gladly remove it off of your damn face with my fist. Even if I have to break my knuckles doing so, I’ll make damn sure you feel it." Kayden says to him, startling all those around him, surprising them all that he could speak. He smirks making eye contact with L as he sees the shock on L's face from his ability to speak, and then just as quickly as he had been there. He enters into the blackness that exists behind his eyelids, he feels his muscles relax and his breathing begins to soften as the steady beat of his heart rings in his ears. He stays in this suspended state of darkness trapped inside of his own head, until suddenly a light shines in and a girl dressed in all white long dress to the floor appears before him, she puts her hand on his face and he can see through her.
"Who are you?" His voice calls out from the darkness, but his lips do not utter a word, his mouth doesn't open and his eyes are closed but yet from the darkness he can feel her light shining upon him.
"It's time." The girl says softly, her voice warm and gentle. Yet, her words carries a mysteriousness to them, that Kayden couldn't identify. He wonders what she means by her words.
"Time? Time for what exactly?" Kayden's voice calls to her from the darkness. Suddenly he see's his mouth twitch and his spirit from the darkness steps forth, his eyes glow neon green, so piercing they look as if fire flames are blowing out both sides of his eyelids and his skin is covered in blackness.
He looks nothing like the vessel of his body laying on the floor before him, he looks down and sees that his hands are long pointed claws. This is his startling realization that this creature he has become is unrecognizable.
The girl stands up slowly moving away from Kayden's body laying on the floor, as she approaches this creature he has become cautiously. He looks to his claws and the darkness of his skin, as he begins to feel the power from this creature overwhelming him. In this form his rage, his anger, and his strength is breathtaking. He begins to grow comfortable in this form and as the girl approaches him he begins to step back into the darkness. But, the girl grabs his arm and hugs him tightly. Her light shining brightly against his darkness purifying it. He can feel the creature chipping away bit by bit, until he can feel himself returning back to his normal state.
"You mustn't ever surrender to the anger within you Kayden, your strength lies within your heart and your wits. The beast within you is the creature L.O.S.S will try to bring out of you, please don't give in. Your path will change if you do surrender to the hatred within your heart, and the rage that grows within you." The girl whispers in his ear, and he finds himself crying. Slow tears trickle down his face as his mind is overwhelmed with so many mixed feelings. He doesn't know if he is crying because of what she said, because he has that powerful of darkness growing within him that he isn't sure he can keep from being unleashed, or the fact it just felt so good to be held. He wondered how long had he been trapped in this state. His memories flood back as he turns into exact replica of the vessel on the floor, and he watches it fade back into him. He becomes once again who he was before this place, but he feels different. He feels more renewed and restored almost as if he is stronger.
Days?
Weeks?
Months?
Had time in this place ever ended or changed? Kayden can't recall, but he holds the girl hugging him and something about her makes him remember a world outside of this suspended state of darkness.
"Kayden, it's time!"She says to him as she pushes him back, and he finds himself falling backward, as the walls of the darkness crumble around him as light shines in. He reaches for her, but she is long gone all that remains is the light. Kayden's hits something, and he feels as if the breath is knocked out of his lungs. For what feels like hours Kayden can't breathe, as he tries to calm himself so he can resume his breathing. However, panic has rushed over him and the light spins around him, almost as if it is trying to consume him. Make him become pure again, yet this light has something about it that is terrifying for Kayden. Then, suddenly as he feels the breath of air rush into his lungs something strange happens. The moment when he breathes a blinding white light closes on him as he covers his eyes and screams.
Suddenly, Kayden raises up out of a hospital bed he had been laying in moments before, and he looks around as he coughs in between breaths of air. There is a light shining through the window of the room onto his pillow, and he wonders if that was the light that awoken him. He remembers everything in that suspended state, and it is hard for him to believe it was a dream. He looks at his arms then to his legs, he just knows the darkness is there waiting for him beneath the surface of his skin. But when he touches his skin he is relieved, and he begins to wonder if it all was just a horrible nightmare. He looks to the machines he is hooked up too, and then his head turns instinctively moments before his door is to open. He can feel someone there, on the other side about to enter the room.
"Kayden! It's good to see you're awake, I thought we might have to start S.E.T training without you." L says as he enters the room. Kayden tightens up his fist as he glares at L, as his memories of the events that occurred in L's office when it fell into darkness quickly come flooding back into his memory. Kayden can feel the anger inside of him increasing rapidly, and as that haunting image of the creature, he might become enters into his mind. The thought of it makes his skin crawl, and his hair stands on end, quickly he calms himself down. He is unwilling to become that beast again, that the girl in that distorted state of his mind warned him about.
L sits down in a chair just inches from Kayden's bed, and Kayden takes a swing at him only to have L capture his fist in his hand. L looks a bit startled but, he also has a sinister glimmer in his eye. He sees something in Kayden, and somehow Kayden can feel that L knew of the dark state he had fallen into. Somehow Kayden knows that L knew about his state of darkness, he feels almost as if L had set it up himself. Kayden pushes his fist deeper into the palm of L's hand not wanting to pull away from him or allow L to have the upper hand over him. He keeps his anger in check, as L releases his fist and he almost falls off of the bed.
"Its good to see your strength has improved since the last time I saw you. I have never had anyone react so weakly before to their first injection. Probably affected you harder where you running around half-cocked throwing punches at everything you felt in the room. Kayden, I had to call in two of my specials to restrain you against the wall as the injection scientist entered the room. But, you had to act like a deranged animal and attempt to harm everyone in the room. Somehow you broke out of one of the specials grips, and before the second one could catch you were up on my desk. So the scientist seen his opportunity and took it, he stabbed you in the neck with the injection. I am telling you what, you hit the floor harder than a cement wall being toppling over and crashing down onto concrete. I didn't think one injection, would put you out for three hours. Damn, kid how much adrenaline do you get in that body of yours? The doctors here have said because you were in such an adrenaline rush, that it is what caused you to be out for so long. But, don't worry you haven't missed anything other than orientation. However, I think I can have a different form of orientation arranged for you." L tells Kayden, all the while snickering at the parts he found funny and frowning at the fact Kayden had been out for so long, almost as if he saw it as a weakness within Kayden.
A flaw he didn't seem to like in the people he hired, and Kayden could read the disappointment all over L's stern face. In his eyes though, Kayden could still see the sinister glimmer twinkling and it made his hair stand on its ends. He wondered if L knew something about him he didn't, and all at once he felt almost as if he could feel L's darkness. Kayden stares at L as he see's a black smokey aura emitting from his body. He can suddenly feel L's emotions, and the things he feels terrifies him. Never had he been in the vicinity of someone like L, who was literally the definition of a cold, vengeful, and heartless killer. He puts his hand on head as he feels the pulse of his headache beating like a drum again his forehead.
