“My Grandmother is a high Elemental mage,” Celeste said confidently. You do Not want to mess with me.” Celeste was a newly initiated Elemental user. She had only just mastered the use of magic, she could not take on an experienced user. An Outlander at that, but he did not need to know that. Her best hope was scaring this guy out of a fight or at least keep him talking long enough for someone in the building to realize that the power was down and call Enforcement.
Celeste’s eyes were still adjusting to the darkness since her fireball burnt out. She could almost make out Law’s eyes lighting up with excitement. “Interesting…” He said slowly in his deep voice, “I have never felt Elemental magic in Alena city before, especially not strong enough to be from a high mage.” He took a step towards her. “Where is your Grandmother?” He asked. Celeste was too stubborn to take a step back in fear. She tried to keep a level tone, “She will be back. I suggest that you are gone before she gets here.” To add a little weight to her words, Celeste produced a soft glowing light ball at her side that created some eire shadows across the bedroom. Childish yes, but if she wasn’t powerful, she could at least be seen as powerful.
Just then the sound of sirens carried along the night air, and through the hole in the window. It felt like she had been alone in the room with this man forever. Celeste felt relieved, “See! I told you they would come for you!” Unexpectedly, Law burst out in a purely amused fit of laughter. “They aren’t coming for me. They are here because they are tracking your magic!” Celeste felt her face go numb. “Me?” She didn’t understand. “Why would they be after me? You are the one who disabled the security system.” Law wiped a tear away from his eye. “I’ve have been doing this before you were born. I had exactly 10 minutes before anyone noticed that the system was down.” He looked casually at Celeste, “I would have been in and out before they noticed.” He smiled casually at her widening eyes, “You are the one tossing magical fireballs around! You could have hurt someone, you know.”
It was then that Celeste realized how careless she had been. She let go of her magic as she thought of twenty different ways her grandmother would have lost her mind about her mistake. “Think first! Acting without thinking can get you caught!” is what she always said. She had let an Outlander expose her! Anger boiled up inside her. Law wasn’t helping her calm down either. “Well, looks like you have some explaining to do to those Officers. I’ll leave you to that,” Law said brushing his sleeves as he moved towards the hole he came through. Celeste panicked. What was she supposed to say? How would she explain magic, Elemental magic, being used in her bedroom. Law appeared unconcerned and oddly happy. Outlanders! So its true…. thieves AND liars. He had tricked her, and she was stupid enough to fall for it. “Don’t worry, we will see each other again.” He casually jumped out of the window that was in one of the highest buildings in Alena City. Mad Man!
