I don’t know much about fitting in. Whenever I try to work someone for projects, they cold-heartedly reject me. After going around half the room asking if anyone wanted to be my partner and being rejected, a thought popped into my mind. I should ask Safer if he wants to be my partner, I chuckle. Why would someone like him want to work with me, like it’s me. But, it wouldn’t hurt to ask. By the time I reach his desk, he’s surrounded by people. No surprise. After a few minutes, the mass of people is gone and I stare at him. He stares back.
“Hey, Safer, want to be my partner?” I pipe out. Only if you want to,” I quickly add. For a while, he’s silent. Oh God, he probably hates me. Then, he opens his mouth and something comes out.
“Sure, Max!” He replies. At this point I’m confused by his words. Then, they almost start to register in my mind. Holy shit! He said yes! Calm down, you fool. It’ll show and then he’ll really think you’re a weirdo.
“Okay, thanks. So, what do you want the topic to be?” I sit down beside him. I watch as he thinks of what to say. He’s cute when he thinks.
“Um, Let’s do a state in the U.S.” Wasn’t expecting that.
“Okay, what state?” I spew.
“I dunno, you pick.” He smiles. I feel my cheeks go red as I think of what to say. New Jersey sounds like a good and easy choice. “New Jersey,” I settle on.
He reaches into his bag for his laptop. I do the same, only I go fishing. You see, I’m not a very organized person. I mean I put my things in a place where I can see it. At my house. But, at school, it’s a different story. I’m talking laptop in the same pocket as a half-open water bottle. At least it’s not juice. At least I don’t have food in here. When I finally pull out my laptop, class is over. Damn, I was hoping for some quality time with *hyung.
“Meet me at the dorms at 5, ‘kay?” He’s so cute up close. Snap out of it, I you keep acting like this, you’ll get a bad grade on the project. Don’t you dare bring down, Max! The stern voice in my head tells me. I nod yes. He smiles, packs his things, and leaves the classroom.
It’s half past 4 when I look at my watch. I rush out of my apartment and make my towards the dorms. I see many unfamiliar faces as I rush into the dorm rooms. Then, I stop. Right in front of him. In front of Jerk.
“Oh, well, what do we have here?” He speaks in English. Another thing about him. Jerk speaks three languages. Korean, German, and English.
“Move,” I hiss. “I’m meeting someone.” Then, out of nowhere, he pulls me close. I hear my heart pounding in my chest as his hands move toward my lower back.
“Who is it? Who are you meeting?” He whispers into my ear, his breath warm.I start panicking. You idiot, what do you think you’re doing with your hands, huh?
“Remove your hands, Hilton.” A strange, yet familiar, voice lets out. “Let go of him right now.” He says.
“Why should I listen to you? Just because you smarter and better-looking than me doesn’t mean you can order me around. And you’re not even that much better than me.” The voice belongs to Safer, I realize. By now, Jerk’s hands are on my butt. He takes one hand off of my butt, thank God, and holds my chin up. His lips meet mine and he closes his eyes. His lips are very soft and well-kept. He then removes his lips from mine, again, thank God, and opens his mouth.
“Max, I love you.” My eyes start sweating. It’s not tears, it’s sweat, okay? I release myself from his grip as I storm off. But before doing so, I utter, “You’re such a jerk, Hilton,” making sure to be loud enough for him to hear me.
“Help me!” I normally wouldn’t call Cait unless it’s an emergency. “Please, Jerk kissed me!”
“WHAT!” he screams. “HE DID WHAT TO MY PRECIOUS LITTLE BRO?!?!” Please note that this conversation in English. “HOld my bEeR!” There’s a silence.
“What the hell was that, Cait?” I’m dying right now. “That was priceless! That voice crack tho!” Though I said that my brother is annoying, he can be pretty goddamn funny. “ I didn’t know you were so talented, Bro!” After we’ve calmed down, there’s a knock on my door. “Hold up,” I tell him. “Hello,” I say as I open the door.
