To toss or to turn?
To turn or to toss?
Sunny couldn't sleep, it was awful.
What happened with Matsumoto after basketball practice, made the girl's Saitama trauma float to the surface.
The abrupt change in Matsumoto's attitude scared her, had Shota been pretending to be nice along?
Random thoughts kept bothering Sunny who turned off her alarm at 6:30 AM harboring perfect panda eyes. The wavy head girl already felt the gloom of a lousy day evading her room, yet she got ready.
As Sunny straightened her hair, she thought about how she was going to bring up the break-up subject. And she wondered if Matsumoto would be at the bus stop, hoping deep inside that he wouldn't.
"Ittekimasu, grandma I'm leaving."
"Itarasshai" Sunny's grandmother said.
°°°
Kamaisama listened to her prayers, for Matsumoto wasn't there, making other ideas come to Sunny's mind.
What if it was he who chose to end their relationship?
Even if they were not a genuine couple, the notion of being dumped again made the girl shudder. Sunny had to find a way to beat him to it and drop him first.
Like all the other days of the week, she was the last one to arrive at the bus stop
"Ohayo" Sunny chanted trying not to show her stress. She was in a phase where she regularly practiced the notion of gaman 我慢, enduring.
"Ohayo."
"Osu" Yuta replied as a greeting, he was still vexed at the idea Sunny had deserted them to see Matsumoto.
"Wow, what's with the tanuki [raccoon] eyes don't tell me you stayed up watching dramas all night," exclaimed Madoka.
"I didn't sleep; I had a horrible night, the worst ever," Sunny replied.
"Why, what happened?" asked Madoka as the bus pulled up.
"It's obvious, I don't see the Ikemen, I bet something occurred with Matsumoto," said Yuta in an accusative tone as they swiped their Suica cards to get on the bus.
"Sunny what happened?" repeated Madoka.
"Ah-mo, gaman dekinai,[I can't endure this any longer]" Sunny said with a sigh seeing how weak her endurance was. Under pressure, she surrendered and explained the incident the best she could; while Yuta interrupted now and again like a spiteful mother with I-told-you-so comments as they commuted.
"Stop it Yuta," scolded Madoka, "don't you understand you're making things worse?"
"Ha! So it's my fault, this girl doesn't know how to recognize a good guy, and it's my fault?" Yuta retorted as they entered the school gates.
°°°
The school's atmosphere hadn't changed, everything appeared to be normal except that Shota was nowhere on its premises. And it disturbed no one when the homeroom teacher announced he was sick; everyone was used to his disappearance. Only Sunny was not indifferent why isn't he here she pondered looking around the class.
Matsumoto had been with her for two weeks; his presence protected her from the fan clubs vendetta and classes spite. Here she found herself alone with no one to talk to or pair up with in class. It came as a big surprise when Asano Sumire paired with her in cooking class.
"Asano what are you doing?" Mori San hissed when the school's idol came to sit next to Sunny.
"We require to work in pairs, so I'm pairing up," Asano San replied making the whispers stop.
Sasuga Orihime Sama, distinguished all the way! What a generous soul she is, Sunny thought.
"Arigato," Sunny said attempting to hold back from hugging the girl who saved her from alienation.
Sunny was unable to avoid staring at her new partner.
Asano San possessed refined features, and her white porcelain skin seemed so smooth that Sunny imagined a miniature her sliding off the girl's cheek.
Asano's thick long black hair streamed down her back flawlessly, shinning like fibers of silk.
Everything about Asano Sumire was sublime; Sunny wondered if some of her grace could brush off on her while they sat. The French girl never envied or experienced complex by others but sitting next to this princess Sunny wished to be like her.
"Asano San wa totemo utsukushii, o ningyo mittai," Sunny let out.
"So I've heard, I'm all but that, I am a pebble," replied Asano San.
A beautiful pebble, Sunny thought as she gazed at the work of art.
Sunny spoke without reasoning, how could she bluntly tell Asano San she was as pretty as a doll. Her behavior embarrassed Sunny, even more, when she imagined that Matsumoto had chosen her over this beautiful girl next to her.
"Gomenasai Asano San," Sunny blurted.
"Why are you apologizing?" Asano San asked.
"Eto, Matsumoto no hanashi no koto."
Asano stopped pouring the milk for their recipe and turn to face her partner.
"What about Matsumoto? He chose you what more is there to say; I wish you two to be happy," Asano San said.
There was something in her tone of voice which pricked. A pinch of spite or was it jealousy, either way, the sound was not the one you would expect from miss nobility.
"Eéé, sumimasen," Sunny said hoping the model would reform her sentence for Sunny didn't find it reassuring; she suddenly worried about her ears good function.
"o shiawase ni," Asano San said smiling
This time Asano San's phrase seemed more pleasant; the tone of voice was more balanced and more convincing than the first to Sunny's ears.
Still, at the same time, something seemed artificial, had Sumire caught on of Sunny's suspicion? The situation was delicate, and Matsumoto's kanojo was not at the end of her surprise.

At lunchtime Sunny hunted down Haruka, being cautious not to meet Matsu fans on a rampage. She caught him on the roof; it appeared he too was an orphan when Matsumoto was not around.
"Ano, Haruka San," Sunny said overshadowing the boy who seemed to take a nap.
"Nani? I advised you to leave me alone," Haruka replied sitting up.
"It's about Matsumoto San he isn't in class," replied Sunny.
"I'm aware of that, what do you want?"
"When will Matsumoto San come back?" Sunny pursued.
"Why, what does it matter to you? Stay away from Shota, haven't you had your dose with Saitama Senpai?" The boy said getting up.
"Doushite, why are you like this with me what have I done?"
"Aren't you a little self-centered? Why do you imagine it's about you? I don't give a damn about you."
Haruka's reply made Sunny blink several times. Haruka San Kowai [Hauruka is scary], no wonder he has no friends. How can Matsumoto be friends with someone like this? Sunny wondered.
"May I ask you a question?"
"Mochiron!" Sunny replied imagining the question to come as the trigger of some truce between them.
"What is a good person for you?" The sniper eyed boy asked.
"A good person-," Sunny hesitated before replying, "it's someone who is kind, gentle and who puts others first."
"I see, well listen up," Haruka said approaching her ear, "Matsumoto Shota is everything but all that. If you think Saitama Senpai broke your heart save yourself Sunny, run as far away as you can before you meet the devil and don't come near me again. You're a bad omen; you're like the sun that sucks the life out of people."
Sunny blinked the tears which filled her eyes away.
Was Haruka warning her or trying to save her?
A bad omen, where had she heard it before? It seemed it was a long time ago.
The girl held no memory of her childhood before her 6th birthday; all Sunny knew was what people told her.
The sentence Haruka pronounced was engraved somewhere in her psyche. The young woman remained frozen and flustered by Matsumoto's friend words as he strolled back down to class.
Lunchtime was over.
As if things couldn't get worse, the ice cube girl who mechanically made her way to class crossed Junpei, Tanaka, and Tomoe
As if things couldn't get worse, the ice cube girl who automatically made her way to class crossed Junpei, Tanaka, and Tomoe. Junpei sneered at her as she passed making Sunny lower her head and shuffled quickly out of sight.
"I don't get you Junpei, why are you like this with Watanabe San I thought-"
"Shut up!" retorted Junpei before Tomoe could finish.
Lost, Tanaka didn't push to find out what Tomoe was ranting about; and the three boys walked to their wing.
It was a terrible day, and Sunny was glad to see it over as she joined Madoka and Yuta to go home. At first, she wanted to tell her friends about what occurred, but she refrained herself from doing so, it would only cause them to worry more. The gaman [endurance] switch was on, and it had to stay that way.
The days flew by, and it seemed the entire school forgot about Matsumoto existence. Sunny never paid attention to how days without him in school resembled. Now she discovered a more relaxed atmosphere; the fan clubs diverted their devotions to other boys like Tomoe or even the mean Haruka.
It made Sunny smile when she heard girl's fangirling over Haruka's killer eyes which shot arrows through their hearts. Haruka's eyes and mouth shot other things too, thinking about how it was to observe the boy so close made Sunny shudder.
After a week, Sunny's life was almost back to its initial state, the one before Matsumoto-Gate.
"Ohayogozaimasu Watanabe San."
"Ohayogozaimasu Asano San."
Sunny had even made a new friend; it felt good to talk to another girl than Madoka in school. Asano San was delicate, she ate and spoke very little, but she managed to express everything. Sunny tried to take after her a bit. She discovered Asano San didn't wear makeup, but she loved night masks. Maybe it was the secret to her glowing face, which never appeared to sweat; it always had a bonne mine aspect.; whereas other students faces looked like steaming Manjus [Japanese dumplings].

"Sunny what will you do when he comes back?" Yuta asked.
"I'll put an end to the masquerade," Sunny replied.
"Good, let me set my alarm."
"Set an alarm for what?" asked Madoka.
"The alarm I will use every day to call Sunny and remind her resolution," answered Yuta.
"You have a screw loose," Madoka said spinning her fingers close to her ears to express her idea.
"What, I'm trying to help because I care about her," Yuta retorted.
Yuta regretted the words as soon as he saw Madoka's and Sunny's jaw opened frozen faces.
"Hey, girls you know what I mean," he said trying to smile like a thief caught red-handed.
"Okay, see you tomorrow guys," Sunny said as she ran up her street.
When Sunny was out of sight, Madoka faced Yuta, "So have you decided to tell her?" she asked.
"Tell her what?"
"That you like her, don't worry I guessed when I saw you with Matsumoto the first time at the bus stop, Sunny doesn't know."
"Well, good job detective Conan," Yuta said.
"Why are you like this I'm on your side!"
"Then why did you support the whole Matsumoto matsuri?" Yuta inquired.
"Because I'm on her side too, I want her to be happy!"
"Okay, whatever don't interfere okay, let me do things my way."
"You're way is too slow," Madoka exclaimed
"Then so be it, she's my friend too I rather see her happy with someone else, than depressed alone."
"So be it what, you are going to sit back and watch?" Madoka asked.
"Yes, she has to see me herself," Yuta snapped.
"Baka!"
"NANI?" Yuta said throwing Madoka I'm-going-to-kill-you stare.
"Baka, baka, baka," yelled Madoka while Yuta chased her.
