According to the Seratin, The Luminescence was the only thing that could restore the light to the now extinguished sun. Since our origin, we humans of Earth had various religious beliefs and disbeliefs ranging from the widely accepted beliefs of Christianity to the more exclusive religions found only in the indigenous tribes of Brazil’s rainforests. However, in the 23rd century we discovered an entire human civilization living beneath the surface of Mars, and they shared with us their knowledge of The Seratin. Although its origins are still unknown to anyone, the Seratin was discovered on Mercury the day after the sun burned out, and it contained information that would’ve been viewed as inconceivable prior to its discovery. Normally, information this powerful would be a cause for skepticism. However, given the unusual circumstances of its discovery, people were more receptive to the words it held. It was a holy book, and its words both proved and disproved virtually every major religion that had been created on Earth. In some respects, we were right. Many earlier religions on Earth had worshipped one central God, often named Elohim. The Seratin would reveal that there indeed was one God whose name was Elohim, but it would also reveal that lot of the details surrounding both the history and overall capability of this God had been somewhat over-exaggerated as the years went by. The old holy books of Earth were always being revised.
This new understanding of Elohim and his religion was groundbreaking, but it didn’t stop there. While Elohim was the God of Earth, he was only one of nine original gods in the galaxy. The Seratin revealed that all eight planets and the sun had a God that watched over their creation. Originally, all nine Gods worked together peacefully to maintain the galaxy. Things changed, however, when the God of the Sun rose up in an attempt to rule over the eight planetary Gods. This war lasted over 100 years, and its details are known only to the gods themselves, as it’s details are not written in the Seratin. However, it is widely accepted that the war lead to the death of the sun god and the extinguishment of the Sun. This absence of our galaxies’ light would eventually be named “The Darkening.”
The Darkening caused an ice age on Earth and forced the people to move below the surface for warmth. At this point in our history, the population was already overcrowded on the surface, so moving below was a difficult task and sacrifices had to be made. Living situations became uncomfortable and food supply grew more and more scarce as the years passed by. This discomfort was something that many of the elites on Earth were not accustomed to, so it in turn reignited the passion for space exploration.
A new expedition was planned to relocate 30% of the Earth’s population to Mars. No other planets had yet been thoroughly explored by the people of Earth, so at this time Mars was thought to be vacant. However, the first team of astronauts they sent for reconnaissance made the shocking discovery that there was indeed life on Mars. The people of Mars told the foreigners that humans, similar to themselves, lived on four of the eight planets. The gas giants (Neptune, Saturn, Uranus, and Jupiter) were uninhabited, but all planets with a solid surface (Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars) were home to human life. Each planet’s race had their own specific traits that allowed them to live in their respective environments, but they all shared the same basic human features: five fingers, two eyes, two ears, one mouth, etc.
Many years prior, when Venus made the first discovery that life existed on other planets, an alliance was formed between the three other inhabited planets. The officials of those planets decided not to involve themselves with the matters of Earth because we were primitive in comparison to both their standard of life and almost all technological advancements. The people of other planets had developed and perfected technologies much faster than we had on Earth, and that allowed them both the time and the resources to observe us without our detection. Their findings proved that we lacked the temperament to work well within the alliance, for Earth had been home to more war and destruction than the three other planets combined. So after a year of observation, the decision was made to keep Earth out of the alliance until a later time. However, once Earth began to seek out the other planets, the decision was made on a two thirds majority to allow Earth to join the planetary alliance called “The Order.” Venus and Mercury both thought Earth had valuable assets to offer The Order. But Mars, who had observed Earth the most, feared what our people were capable of.
While we were technologically primitive in almost every way, our weaponry was the most advanced in the galaxy. Nuclear warfare was distinctly a product of Earth. The other planets instead focused their technological advancements into ways to promote agricultural and social growth, they had little to no wars and therefore military advancement wasn’t a high priority to them. Once the decision was made to include Earth, it didn’t take long for the same pride that fueled the wars on our planet to fuel the decision to travel to Triton and find the Luminescence. Since The Darkening, The Order had been making plans to find The Luminescence and restore light to the galaxy. Eager to prove our worth to our newly announced allies, Earth’s officials strongly urged that we be the ones to make the journey. There were many meetings held in secret between the various representatives of The Order, until ultimately the mission was approved, and Earth began preparations for the journey.
