What I saw was far from what I had expected. Instead of more darkness and an impossibly huge black heart, I found a much smaller, almost human sized silvery white one. It sat in a corner at bottom of the box, lighting it up with a gentle white glow which pulsed in time with the black beast's heartbeat. Spreading from it to cover the inside of box were what looked to be blood vessels. They too glowed white like the heart and it occurred to me they most likely kept it from tumbling about and getting damaged while I was looking for how to open the box.
I hoped the beast hadn't minded the rough ride too much as I reached into the box and cautiously prodded the heart with a finger. At first nothing happened, but as I moved to pick it up, the pulsating veins surrounding it let go of the box to wrap themselves around my hand. Both they and the heart felt soft and faintly
sticky to the touch and I could feel the blood vessels throbbing in time with the heart's beat against my skin. They guided my hand into a safe grip on the heart so I wouldn't damage or crush it by accident when I picked it up. Once it was secure, I carefully lifted it out and set the box aside. I stared at for a bit as I gathered up the will power to do what I had to do next.
You see, there was only two possible ways to enable the beast to revive itself. One way was to destroy the heart which would free the beast's spirit and allowing it to revive itself on its own. A time consuming process from what I have heard. It had been a part of our original plan as the beast had been a large dragon like creature at the time of its defeat and we had assumed it had an appropriately sized heart. I had figured since the monsters had me by my moral throat, I may as well face them head on in an attempt to free Indy of any reason they had to want her dead. Chances were very slim that it would work but it was the only solution I could see at the time.
The other was to introduce the beast's heart to a host who's body it could use and manipulate to suit its needs. This was the quickest way to revive the beast but I originally didn't think it was a viable option back when we were planning things because we had thought that the heart would be too big for it to be do able. However, finding the heart at its current size changed things and gave me a real chance at saving Indy. The only problem now was the host. Since Indy was obviously far too small for this and I doubted I would succeed at jamming it down a nearby monster's throat, left me with only one choice. I had to become the beast's host. This brings us to my current dilemma as I could think of no other way to introduce the beast's heart to my body other than trying to swallow it whole.
I was repulsed by the idea of eating something that was still moving but I had to do it if we were to have any real chance of surviving the night. Steeling myself, I lifted the heart up and opened my mouth. The beast seemed to sense my intentions and the pulsating blood vessels unwrapped themselves from my hand to reach into my mouth. I felt myself beginning to gag as I felt them force their way down my throat so I hurried and shoved the heart in after them before I puked. The blood vessels took it as an invitation and pulled the heart along with them to force it down my throat before my stomach could fully rebel and things got messy. They succeeded in doing so and I collapsed on the ground coughing and gagging as I felt the heart slide painfully down my throat to settle in the middle of my chest.
