The Westerheights Collection is a collection of short horror stories, centered around a small fictional town called Westerheights. It is a, closely knit community, where everyone knows everyone else and strangers and outsiders are always heeded with the open watchfulness of a protective family. Idyllic. Picturesque. The kinds of words one would expect to find in high-class travel guides used to entice tourists, accompanied by pictures of boxed, and pointy, wood and stone cottages with whispy chimneys and main street general stores with storage barrels and burlap sacks on display next to a rickety wooden bench with a couple old codgers smoking a pipe and shooting the breeze as a child rides by on a shiny new bike. But Westerheights is not as it seems, and the whispering folk of Westerheights have much to hide.

Sirens

The first story in the series, focuses on a simple local law enforcement graveyard shift coming to an end, and tests the mettle of a Westerheights veteran officer, as well as the new dispatch officer, and allows us to take a ride along, and witness Westerheights finest as a terrible scene unfolds on Main Street. Sometimes, even a veteran can make mistakes, and sometimes when the newbie has your back, things that seem fine can go from bad to absolutely horrible in the blink of an eye, or as some might say, in a flash.

The Misty Woods

The Misty Woods is the second short story in The Westerheights Collection and takes us to the outskirts of Westerheights, where we find, yet another of Westerheights finest. Though breath mints, mouthwash and constant groggy mornings tells us that maybe this officer is not all that fine. It is said that years on the force can take a toll and that many an officer turns to a bottle to find solace and escape the many horrors and tragedies that these brave men and women must face on a regular basis. Sometimes, they are lucky and taken by a stroke, or cardiac arrest while sleeping one off in front of a droning television that rarely has meaning after 7 pm, other times, they are not so lucky, and are wide awake to feel it all, witnessing, with sudden clarity, the end.

From 'Sirens'

"Come on Lacey, I am sure you have seen a man in his underpants before, Miss Alistaire, mind the oggling please, you are making Desk Sergeant Hannigan uncomfortable." Lacey placed the evidence container on the ground beside the container that already contained most of his clothing piled on top of his shoes and socks. She kept the flashlight angled low and away so as to give Allen enough light to see what he was doing, but not quite enough light in the alley for Miss Alistaire to catch any glimpse of what she had already seen. She felt a lump in her throat and she swallowed. She hoped it was quiet. She found herself thankful that the light above the door behind Dan's Deli was burned out. "Alright Miss Alistaire, that will be all thank you. You can, for once, go home and put your feet up and have a well-deserved day, maybe two, off."
