“Jacqueline! Run, Jaqueline! Run! Run!” Jackie tossed and turned in her sleep. “Jacqueline RUN!” She sat straight up in her bed and screamed.
Avery opened the door quickly. “Jackie are you alright? I hear a scream!” He saw her crying in the corner of her bed, her arms wrapped around her legs. “Jackie? You okay?” She was shaking uncontrollably. Avery pressed his finger against his ear. “Dr. Sally, Jackie is having some kind of panic attack, I’ve never seen this before.”
“In the middle of the night!? Fine, I’ll be there in a little. Try to calm her down in the meantime.” Dr. Sally said in Avery’s ear.
“Jackie, may I sit next to you?” When she didn’t respond, he sat down on the edge of the bed. “Was it a bad dream, a nightmare?” She continued to shake and didn’t answer him. A gentle knock came at Jackie's door. “I’m going to answer that, it’s Dr. Sally.” He turned away from her and she grabbed his sleeve. “I’ll be right back.” He said pulling away from her.
“Did she say anything?” Dr. Sally’s dreads were pulled back in a messy bun and she wore short shorts and a tank top that showed half her bra.
“No, not a word.” Avery said worried as he let her in.
“Oh Sweetie.” Dr. Sally said seeing Jackie. She crawled onto the bed with her and pulled Jackie into her arms. “It’s okay.” Dr. Sally pet the girl’s head softly. Soon, Jackie fell to sleep on Dr. Sally’s shoulder. “Avery, help me get her off, I need to talk to you.” After Avery and Dr. Sally tucked Jackie in, they stepped into Avery’s room.
“What do you need to talk about?” Avery asked.
“What happened?” Dr. Sally crossed her arms and glared at him.
“I don’t know, I was halfway through my sleep cycle when my sensors pick up on Jackie's distress.”
“It must have been a bad dream then.” Dr. Sally said, more to herself than to Avery. She yawned loudly and stretched. “Well, she seems to be stable now. I’ll be in my room if something happens.” Avery let Dr. Sally out, then looked in Jackie’s room. She was curled up, hugging a pillow.
“Bad dream. Humm…” Avery closed the door slightly and laid on his bed. He closed his eyes and drifted into sleep mode.
