Marceline and Princess Bubblegum have known each other for as long as forever. They don’t even remember when and either does anyone else. Marceline is an amazing musician and Bubblegum is a pretty cool scientist. Having known each other for a very long time, they have always been in the company of one another. As time passed, new friends would begin to show up and take time away from both of them. Time spent between the two have lessen…but at least not totally. They don’t see or talk to each other every day anymore. Feelings of sadness and longingness were felt…by one. That one was Marceline. And it’s true that they know everything about each other, but that may have been what they believed about the other.

It was the dead of night. Only the sound of soft crickets could be heard with an occasional light howl of a passing breeze. The stars were glorious, tiny specks that lit across the deep, dark sky. Though, there was no moon in sight.
Flying through the sky at a pleasant speed, enjoying the wind’s movements was Marceline. She soared through the air, sporadically throwing in a few twirls and loop de loops. She expressed an interestingly happy and joyful aura and attitude as she flew.
This has been very contradicting to her recent mood. She had been very gloomy and blue, and not meant by the color of her skin. Her mood had definitely done a 180 degree turn from the past month.
A few minutes pass and down below her were the empty and quiet streets the Candy Kingdom. She made her way to the center of it all, where a high castle and tower stood. Marceline flew up to the tip top of the tower, to a special, single window.
This window was always unlocked and opened during the night. She didn’t really question why, but only thought the night air was something that the window’s owner liked. That came as a plausible reason for herself because she really enjoyed the night air as well.
Positioned right in front of the window, she pushed the window curtains aside just a tad so that she could peek through to the other side. The room she saw was a bit dark, but fortunately, she had keen eyes made for the dark. Everything in the room was visible to her, every object, book, and living being.
In the center, next to the wall closest to Marceline, a bed fit for a king resided. However, for the being under those covers was not a king, but a lovely princess. Princess Bubblegum rested under a fluffy blanket and numerous pillows, breathing softly. She was asleep and has been for hours already.
Assured that the princess was already asleep, Marceline pushed the curtains all the way out of the window’s view. She sat herself right on the window sill, legs dangling out in the air. She takes a few deep breaths and pulls her bass from being on her back to her front. She glances at the pink puff on the bed once more then looks out towards the sky and starts playing.
The bass is played in ways of calming and soft tones. Without thinking too hard, she hums and sings whatever comes to mind.

She finishes a song, sometimes just music, but she only ever plays one a night. She lets out another deep breath and takes one more look at her sleeping princess, making sure she was still sleeping, which she was. Relief and a slight sense of accomplishment washes over Marceline and she whispers.
“Sweet dreams, my sweet princess”
She slowly closes the window curtains back to when they originally hung and flew out away from the Candy Kingdom, into the night.

The next day, Marceline decided to drop by to visit a now awake Bubblegum. The Candy Kingdom was alive as ever, streets filled with candy citizens and all, talking and going about their own business.
Gliding over the kingdom, Marceline spots Bubblegum seated on an outside park bench that was within close walking distance from the castle. Bubblegum was alone, which was odd because of all the responsibilities that she have to manage. She was also writing… just writing in a book. Marceline floated down slowly, just about ten feet behind Bubblegum. Before Marceline could say a word to establish her own presence, she froze. Bubblegum was humming… a tune. Not just any tune… this was the tune of the song Marceline played for her the night before…
Marceline’s face flashed a rosy red and she took off immediately, leaving behind a small force of wind.
Definitely feeling that quick and sudden push of wind, Bubblegum turned around, but only just to catch a small glimpse of Marceline flying away. Marcy?
Flying with no destination, Marceline’s mind was running wild. Was she awake all this time? Did she see me? Does she know I’ve been coming to her window at night? If she knew, why didn’t she say anything? Maybe it was a common tune, another song that I don’t know.
Marceline couldn’t believe her mind. It couldn’t be right, Bonnibel would have definitely said something if she knew I was there. So there’s no way she knows. Curiosity gets the better of her and she decides that she would go back tonight to confirm for herself.
Night fell and Marceline was at it. Already peeking through the window curtains, she saw no signs of movement or states of being awake. This time, before she decides to play anything, she very carefully floated over Bubblegum’s bed to make sure. Bubblegum’s eyes are indeed closed to Marceline’s relief. She definitely is asleep. Pshh, I was worried for nothing. She heads back towards the window and seats herself down and begins playing.

What is that sweet melody? It’s so enticing. Is this a dream? I’ve been having similar dreams of lately. It’s happy, sometimes sad, but always so sweet sounding. It’s so dark in here, probably because this is a dream. If I wake up, will I not hear it anymore?
Determined to understand if what she has been dreaming to be actual dreams or not, she forces herself awake, which was an easy task, as she was only in a drifting-to-sleep phrase, not actually asleep yet. Her eyes were now open and blinking the sleepiness away. Her expectation was that the sweet melody would be no more. However, she heard it. She heard it. She was awake now and she still heard it.
Bubblegum tilting her head towards the sound of music, she looks upon her open window. A figure sat there.

Marcy, is that you?
All music stopped. Marceline jumped up into a standing position looking straight at the VERY MUCH NOW AWAKE Bubblegum. Before having any time to do anything, Bubblegum spoke.
Marcy, are those words about me… are they for me?
Dead silence filled the room right after. These moments seemed like forever. Marceline was panicking in her own head. OH MY EVILNESS. SHE’S AWAKE… AND SHE’S TALKING TO ME. SCRATCH THAT, NOT IMPORTANT. WHAT’S IMPORTANT IS THAT SHE HEARD ME.
Umm, Marcy?
OH, ummm, YEAH. HI. She took the biggest breath she has ever taken in her life.
Y-yess…I-I was talking about… you… Now blushing heavily as she spoke.
Wild thoughts still bombarded her mind, but that was cut off completely when she heard a somewhat annoyed sigh from across the room, escaping from Bubblegum’s mouth. Bubblegum gets up from her bed and walks quickly towards Marceline, still standing on the window sill. She stands right in front of Marceline, grabs her hands to pull her down from the window. They now stand face-to-face, looking into each other’s eyes.
Marcy! How can you be such an idiot! You’ve been coming here for countless nights now and never once told me? Who do you think leaves this window open every night for the purpose that you’ll come by? I know I’ve been busy, but you never come by anymore. I haven’t seen you for a while now, unlike how we used to be together always. I even tried going to visit you sometimes, but you’re never when you usually are anymore. And if you ever thought that you coming to see me was a bother, you are so wrong. It bothers me that I don’t see you at all. I was so happy when you came yesterday, but you took off without a word. That really hurt me… like you were avoiding me. But to see you now and hear your honest words...
Bubblegum tilts her head slightly downwards and tears begin flowing down her lightly redden pink cheeks. Panicking even more to see Bubblegum crying, Marceline pulls Bubblegum in into her arms for a tight embrace.
I’m sorry, Bonnibel. I didn’t want to make you cry. I didn’t know that t-this is how you really felt. I’m an idiot for not realizing any of it. I-I’m still trying to process all that you’ve said right now, It’s umm kinda a lot to take in.
Tilting her tear-stained face back upward, reconnecting their gazes back together.
You are an idiot, Marcy.
And with that said, Bubblegum tiptoes just a tad, placing her lips softly on Marceline’s lips for just a second.
I’ve always loved you, you big doofus~
