Lucas
“I can’t believe you said you love her.”
“Can you please just shut up?” I groaned into his pillow.
Chris chuckled. “I can’t believe you fell for the one girl in school that rejects every guy that even tries to glance her way. Even I’ve never said I loved a girl before.”
I rolled my eyes and sat up. “Well we can’t all be like you, Chris the lady killer.”
“So what did she say?” he rolled his chair from his desk over to his bed where I sat.
I feel like a teenage girl talking about her crush with her best friend. I sighed and hit him with the pillow before getting up, earning a protested “Hey!” from Chris.
“She’s going to say no, I can feel it.”
Chris sighed and flopped back in the chair. “Dude, you don’t know that.”
“You just said she rejects every guy who looks at her!” I yelled.
“And you haven’t even noticed how she looks at you. Hell, I don’t think she even knows how she looks at you. Brysiese and I both were talking about it earlier.” I sat on the floor staring at him. When did they start talking to each other without ripping their throats out? He started to wiggle at the sudden attention. “What? I can’t hang out with a girl? She’s actually kinda cool.”
I shook my head. “I didn’t say anything man. I was just wonderin’ when you guys starting hanging out is all.”
Chris blushed, chuckling he said, “Pretty much after you and Mia went to the amusement park.” I guess I don’t have to worry about them getting along if Mia and I do end up together.
I stood up again and stretched. “That’s good dude. You guys are getting along.”
My friend looked down. “Yeah,” he whispered.
I groaned in relief when my back popped how I wanted it to, slipped on my shoes and bag before saying my goodbyes to Chris. He walked me to the door. As I was about to leave he said, “Don’t worry about Mia, Lucas. She’ll say yes.” and closed the door behind me.
I decided to walk to Chris’s earlier not thinking about the cold when I had to walk back, so here I am, in the freezing late November cold, at nine in the evening, in a light jacket walking half a mile home. I shoved my hands into my pockets to try and keep them warm, pulling my jacket closer to my body as a slight wind picked up to punch me in the face.
It wasn’t soon after I started home that I felt eyes following me. I shook it off, continuing on;until I heard footsteps. They were close, no farther than ten feet, but I could hear them matching to my footfalls. I picked up the pace, trying to listen if they did too, but I couldn’t tell.
Just in case I pulled myself down a different street, getting farther away my place. The footsteps came back, matching my stride again, closer than before. Who the fuck is this guy? I took a chance and glanced behind me. The person was definitely a man, tall, with a dark hoodie covering his face and his hands were shoved into his pockets, already a bad sign. I pulled out my phone to call for the cops and immediately the guy started running for me. I booked it, running as fast as I could, pressing the emergency button on my phone. I could hear it ringing. Any second they’re gonna pick up, I just need enough time to give them my location.
“Hello, Main City Police can you please tell us your situation?”
“Hi! My name is Lucas-” but before I could finish something hit my head. The last I could remember was falling to the ground, my vision turning black as a pair of fancy black shoes came into view. When I looked up it was the same man I saw a few weeks ago looking at Mia.
“Take him back. I wanna have a little chat. . .”
