Antoine hadn’t been in school for the last half of the day. Bernadine called him. “Hallo?” He answered.

“Hey, I didn’t see you after lunch.”

“Yeah, I left early. I wasn’t feeling well.” He said, his Irish accent coming out.

“What happened?”

“I just got sick okay?!” Antoine, who almost never yelled at his friends, yelled at Bernadine.

“What the fuck is wrong with you? You’re being a dick.”

“Just- leave me alone, okay?” Antoine asked, his voice cracking on leave.

“No, what happened at lunch?” Bernadine asked.

“...Nothing.” Was the reply before an audible click was heard.

“Dammit, Antoine. Why won’t you tell me?” Bernadine asked the air.

“I’m calling Kiku.” Bernadine muttered, picking her cell up again.

“Herro?”

“Hey. What happened to Antoine?” Bernadine asked.

“... He had a run in with Anik.” Kiku answered.

“Then why didn’t he just tell me?”

“Because, it’s not something good, Bernadine...”

“What the hell happened exactly, Kiku?”

“He was… r-raped.”

“WHAT?!” Bernadine exclaimed. “Why didn’t he go to the police?”

“I don’t know.” Kiku said.

Antoine acted like nothing happened the next day. He teased Gilbert and Matthew in class and joked around with Kiku, but Gilbert had the feeling something was wrong. Like Antoine was under a lot of stress. “Hey, Birdie, do you zhink somezhing’s wrong vith Antoine?”

“I don’t know, maybe. I know he ran into Anik, but that’s it…” Matthew said.

“Huh. I vonder if somezhing happened between zhem.” Gilbert planned to find out.
