“Stop calling me Stephanie.” I look at Ronnie dead in the eye. “From now on, I’m Stephen.”
He gives my hand a squeeze.
His ankles tap the stone ledge we sit upon, as he watches the ocean’s waves licking sand from across the shore.
“Have you told anyone else?” He asks me.
I shake my head. “I don’t think I plan to.”
The dim light of the moon reflects against his bangs, giving them a strange glow that turns oranges into almost whites.
I take a swig from my water bottle. It tastes like sea salt, but I’m guessing it’s just the air, and that it’s not actually sea salt.
Ronnie frowns. “You’re shaking.” He says.
“I’m not.”
“I told you to take a sweater before we left.”
“I’m not cold.”
“You never listen…” He sighs, takes his jacket off, wraps it around my shoulders and grins. “Stephen.”
I smile.
I nod.
“Thanks.”
