3 days before Outbreak
I laid on a blanket on the sandy portion of the watering hole. The sunlight that barely peaked through the trees warmed my skin. I could hear my friends laughing and playing in the cooling water.
I heard the pebbles shift beside me and I saw my friend Isaac plop down beside me, one of those high quality cameras hung around his neck.
"Hey Edi, what are you doing over here and not in the water?" he asked, bringing the camera to his face.
"Staying dry." I glanced at him and smiled as he snapped a picture. "What are you doing?" I asked.
"What's it look like, I'm working on my tan." Isaac said and I laughed; it would take a lot of time before he could tan. His skin was already dark and his hair was short.
Another guy got out of the water and dropped in beside me, before slinging his arm over my shoulder.
"Hey baby." He said was a smile and he gave me a quick kiss.
"Hey Matt!" I returned his kiss.
"Dude!" we turned to Isaac. "I did not come here to watch you two make out!" I laughed before saying, "That's too damn bad, I'm going to makeout with my boyfriend!" and I leaned over and pressed a kiss to Matt's lips and he was very quick to return it.
I heard Isaac make a choking noise and Matt and I broke away laughing.
Matt looked down at the camera around Isaac's neck, he reached over and grabbed the camera from him, pulling the cord away from his neck.
"Why did you bring a camera?" Matt asked, bringing the camera to his face.
Isaac snatched his camera back, "To take pictures, the world's going to shit, it'll be nice to have something to remember what the Earth was like before we all die."
I saw Matt roll his eyes, "You're so paranoid, the world's not going to end."
"What are you guys talking about?" I asked them.
Matt leaned back onto his elbows, "Isaac's all freaked out by that whole bath salts ordeal, where that guy snorted all those bath salts and started to tear peoples' faces off." He said nonchalantly.
"Hey! Hey, I heard that the guy who got his face tore off started acting just like the first guy." Explained Isaac and he took another picture.
I was surprised, " I hadn't heard about this at all!"
"Of course you didn't Edi! The government doesn't want anyone knowing anything about it, that's why they didn't talk about it on the news."
"Well if the government doesn't want us to know about it, how do you know about?" I questioned him.
"YouTube, duh." Isaac said seriously and it caused Matt and I to laugh.
"Dude your conspiracy theories are freaking you out!" Matt said picking up a couple small stones and he started to throw them at Isaac.
"Say what you will, but when you're getting your face eaten by some guy coked out of his mind, don't come crying to me." He said smartly, continuing to take pictures of our friends around us. Life was good now that we had finished our last year of high school. The world was at our feet now and we thought nothing could stop us... How wrong we were.
