That had been the last time I seen them. The next day school had been cancelled and everyone was advised to stay indoors and not to come out unless absolutely necessary. After that announcement is when everything seemed to go down hill. People either ignored the warnings and continued going outside, while the others chose to stay inside and listen to the warnings. While I had been forced to stay locked indoors day in and day out, my friends were able to go outside. Matt was very quick to poke fun at me whenever he would call.
A day later, I didn't get any calls from my boyfriend and when I tried calling it would only go to voicemail. I tried calling his home phone and that too went to voicemail. By mid-afternoon, did I really start to worry. I couldn't reach anyone and the broadcasts about staying inside started to increase until that was all that played.
And the day after that... nothing. No calls, no television broadcasts and whenever I looked out the window I saw no one outside. It was dead silent. It wasn't until three in the after did we hear something, but it wasn't the kind of news anyone would want to hear.
The television went from white noise to a federal alert. The president's face came into view and his voice played through the speakers, he looked disheveled and messy.
"My fellow citizens of Americans, we have an uncontrollable problem. At about four A.M. a deadly outbreak of..." He seemed to pause, not knowing what to say next. "to be honest with you folks I don't know what to call them. They look human but they are not alive! I repeat, they are not alive! They're fast and they're hungry! They are the undead! But don't worry folks a cure is coming! But for now, stay indoors, trust no one, and please my fellow Americans, try and survive." And the television fell silent again, leaving my family and I in a stunned silence.
I can't remember much that happened after, mostly just a lot of hugging and crying. I remember being in a daze and I remember trying to once again call Matt or Isaac or anyone I knew would pick up, but no one did. And I remember crying until I could no longer cry.
