It was only after five minutes of walking along gravel roads that I began to struggling managing both Zeth and my heavy suitcase. I may have been a young boy, but I had a very slight build. I could barely carry my seven year old brother for more than five minutes.
"You sound like you're struggling." The girl muttered, she dragged the boy back to walk alongside me and Zeth.
"Sound?" I questioned.
"He said it first, not me." She pointed a thumb at the white haired boy.
"Leon." The white haired boy muttered with a slight groan.
"Oh, yeah. My name is Nadine." The girl stated cheerfully. Only when she spoke her own name could I pick up on the fact that she too had a German accent.
"I'm Blake, and this is Zeth." I nodded down at Zeth who looked up at me confused, he'd clearly just been daydreaming about some childish fantasy or another.
"Ma! Turn left." Nadine pointed as she directed my mother down an alley-like road.
"Na, I'll catch up. I'm just going to help this kid with his suitcase." Leon mumbled quietly to Nadine, who nodded and skipped off to my mother before quickly engaging in some deep, and probably not meaningful conversation.
"I'm okay..." I said, turning my head away. I had always been embarrassed for my slight physique.
"I'm clearly built a lot better than you, just give it to me, I'll carry it." He put his hand on my shoulder, his grip was strong and I nodded. Passing it to him.
"Thank you." I said, trying not to furrow my eyebrows as I spoke.
Leon scoffed. "How old are you. If I were to guess by appearance I'd say you were twelve, but my instinct says otherwise."
"Sixteen." I mumbled. "I guess I probably didn't grow too much because I was always quite sick as a kid." I smiled sadly. Five feet four inches, standing next to Leon who was over six feet tall, easily.
"Funny that. We're the same age." He scoffed yet again. "How old's the little one?"
"Seven!" Zeth said, brightly smiling up at Leon.
Leon paused for the briefest moment before leaning down to speak to him.
"You know what? I have two siblings. One is Nadine over there, and the other is only a year older than you. How's that? I'll introduce you when you have time. But only after you're all good and ready in your new house." Leon smiled, and I felt like letting out a gasp. "How's that sound Zeth?"
"Um, thanks!" Zeth smiled as Leon ruffled his hair.
"You and Nadine don't look similar at all." I said, just trying to keep a conversation running.
"She's my twin sister... My very fraternal twin sister." His face was harsh again.
"I see that." I laughed.
"We're here." Leon nodded at the massive white, grandiose home.
"Thank you for leading us." My Mother said as she unlocked the front gate.
"Not a problem. Actually, we live just behind your house. If you need us, there's a gate in the back fence which is always unlocked. Just come to the back door. You're welcome anytime." Nadine said with a smile.
