The next day was bright and sunny, the perfect spring day. I pulled on a pair of light wash skinny jeans, a loose royal blue shirt and black ankle boots. When I pulled open the window I re-thought my decision and pulled on a grey scarf and leather jacket.
I bounced while I stepped from one step to the next as I went downstairs and into the kitchen, it wasn't my day to help out the Luna so I just sat down with everyone else at the table. Hannah stared at me like I was a wet dog on her new couch and Kian looked dumbfounded for some reason. Luke, Mike and Roberto looked like they were ready for death and Nova and Arturo were having a conversation about his travels from Mexico to Alaska.
"Morning," I said to everyone as I sat down.
"Why the hell are you so happy," Luke groaned. I smirked and pushed my coffee to him.
"Thank you, little sis."
"Yeah, well, I'm not feeling coffee this morning. In fact," I pushed out my chair and stood up," I think I'll get some tea."
Luke didn't reply to me, just took a big drink of his coffe. I went through the door and into the kitchen to see the Luna busy at the stove. She seemed to be juggling more than she could handle so I went over to her and took the eggs from her.
"What are you doing? It's not your day."
"Doesn't mean I can't help you out," I nodded at the pancake in the pan," It's burning, Luna."
She flipped it quikly, just in time to keep it from being too burnt. She gave me a sideways glance that voiced all her suspicions as to why I was helping when I didn't have to but I just gave her a reassuring smile.
We finished cookign breakfast quicky and took it out to the masses. Everyone dug right in, the Luna whispered a thank you in my ear as I took my seat. I didn't bother to hide my smile and took up a single pancake, a few berries and some eggs onto my plate.
"I notice you didn't get any tea, Holly," Arturo said after a while. I looked up to see him staring at me, setting down the syrup in my hand I smiled at him.
"I decided that I didn't want it."
The other people started to listen to our conversation, chewing silently as we spoke across the long table.
"But you were in there for an awfully long time, you must have been doing something."
"I helped the Luna with breakfast."
"How nice of you."
"Thank you."
We all went back to eating. We were almost done when Arturo spoke up again, this time to Roberto. His Beta sat up straight when he spoke to him.
"Roberto, when will we be leaving?"
"Tonight is our scheduled departure time, Alpha."
"Tonight," he repeated, giving me a glance," That's quite soon, here I was looking forward to seeing the great runners race."
"We can still race, Alpha Arturo. I know I'd be willing," I spoke up. Kian looked at me as if I was insane. I shrugged and went back to my last bite of pancakes.
"What about you, Kian? Would you run against the young lady?"
"Yeah," Mike spoke up, apparently shaking off his hangover for a second," What about you, Kian?"
"You know, I'd love to, bu-"
"Excellent," Arturo clapped his hands," Would we be able to have it a few hours before we leave? I'd like to have it before I pack and wrap up my business here."
"Of course, I'd be able to do it any time. Just as soon as Kian's hang over clears up, we'll run."
"We might be waiting a while," Mike quipped. Everyone but Kian, Luke and Hannah laughed.
I guess we will go for that run after all, wolf.
Kian's POV
My head hurts.
Holly makes it feel a bit better when you're near her though.
I can't be by Holly, I'm rejecting her. I love Hannah.
But she's your mate. She's the only one who can heal you inside and out.
Give it up. I won't be purposely near her more than I have to.
That's the argument with my wolf that led to me waiting in Holly's room while she went on patrol. I was scheduled for tonight and she was out for another hour or so. When she gets back we'll race to entertain our visiting Alpha.
My wolf started to move around in me, wiggling and squirming and writhing for control. He wants her. The smell is driving him insane. I almost wanted to leave, but he was right. Just being in a place that reeks of her is enough to ease my head.
I went over to her bed and took a seat on the edge seeing that there was no where else to sit. I saw a book on her end table and my eyebrows pulled together. Picking it up to inspect I saw that it was a book on phycology, her book mark was set next to it so I guess she'd finished reading it.
She's really smart.
You used to be, too.
I glared at my wolf for his cheap shot.
You set yourself up for that one.
Sighing at him I decided to open the book and take a peek. What could be so interesting about phycology anyway?
The next thing I know there's a loud knock at the door and I'm halfway through chapter 11.
Hannah pulled the door open slightly and sniffed the air before stepping in completely. She looked absolutely disgusted and uncomfortable in here, keeping large distances between her and objects as she walked over to me as if they could possibly contaminate her.
"Why are you in here? I could smell you from outside the door."
"I came in here to talk to Holly about the new patrol changes, forgot that she was on patrol."
"What's that," she nodded to the open book in my hand. I took a quick glance at the page number I was on before closing it and putting it back where I found it.
"Just something I decided to read while I wait."
"Looks boring," she shook her head," Holly's downstairs waiting for you."
"Why would she be waiting for me," I asked, feeling my heart beat pick up.
"The little race you're doing for that Alpha guy. Come on, you'll be late if you don't hurry up."
I nodded and reluctantly stood up to take her hand and walk downstairs. I'll have to sneak back in later to get that book.
Among other things.
Shut. Up.
_____
It was kinda chilly outside but I'd be running so I didn't grab a jacket. Holly was already out there and talking to Arturo, Mike, Luke and Roberto. They seemed really engrossed in their conversation but I couldn't take my eyes off of her. Again.
She had her jacket pulled tight around her, the flaps pulled upwards and it zipped up to her chin with just a bit of a scarf peeking out the top. Her long, blond hair was blowing freely in the early spring air and her cheeks were lightly pink. It's hard to tell that this is the same girl who was swimming naked in the creek last week. She looked so damn-
I stumbled a bit while walking and it snapped me out of my Holly induced daze. Heather glared at me and I realized that I'd tripped over her legs because I'd been going a bit to the left. Arturo must have heard us coming because he came over with Holly and the others in tow.
"Are you ready to run?"
"Ready."
"Good. We decided that it would be a simple lap around the house, to the creek and back."
"Alright. When do we start?"
