Holly's POV
"So, what's the plan exactly?"
"I already went over it 8 times "
"I'm just not sure how well it will work, I've never changed before. I wouldn't know how to even start."
I let out a sigh, its really not healthy for her to have gone this long with out changing into her wolf form even once. She probably doesn't talk to her wolf at all.
"Maybe you should just try reaching out to your wolf first," I suggested," Try to find her. She'll tell you everything."
She nodded and closed her eyes. The wolf must have sensed her trying to reach out because the next moment she's talking to her out loud. It was kinda beautiful. Not everyone gets to witness something like this in their life time.
I tried to block out the sound of their talking, not wanting to intrude. After a few moments I saw that the sun was starting to go down, Wyatt will be here soon and she hasn't even changed.
"Faye, you need to change. Now."
She shook her head and opened her eyes, still slightly entranced from talking to her wolf for the first time. Then she pulled her apron off and went on all fours to start the change.
A wolf's first change is he most painful but its also the most liberating. Her wolf was dull red and medium sized. She'd be so much slower than me but still fast.
She walked slowly to the door and hid behind it while I made my way to the bed to sit and wait for the moment when the sun would dip just low enough to touch the tip of the horizon. That's when Wyatt would be here.
The door swung open gently as always and he stepped in. A smile spread across his face that made me want to shiver.
"Good evening, Miss. Sterling."
"Wyatt," I was scared my voice would reflect the fear I was feeling but it didn't. It sounded weak like always. He chuckled while taking out the syringe.
"Isn't it funny that you've been calling me Wyatt from day one, but I have always called you Miss. Sterling?"
"I guess so."
"Maybe we should change that from now on," he set the syringe on the floor next to him," Holly."
My first instinct was the panic, to shout for Faye to hurry up, but I didn't. I casually glanced over his shoulder to see her a few meters away and staring at him with curiosity.
She didn't know either.
"I was looking into your results this morning, trying to understand why you reacted differently from Ara and Horatia, and I saw something."
"What would that be?"
"Nova Sterling has a little sister," he leaned forward so he was inches from me," Isn't that something? Now, from my understanding, these sisters are quite similar in looks. But the younger one, she's a bit different. A few things she inherited from her mother that the prior sister didn't."
When I stayed silent, not sure how talking would help me at this point in time, he took my chin in his forefinger and thumb and turned my face to get a closer look.
"Blue eyes and freckles," he muttered before roughly releasing me," Another interesting thing, the younger sister has an extraordinary talent for running. A very intelligent young lady, wouldn't you agree? She pretended to be her sister, went along with the guards, incapacitated one of said guards while the other was distracted and sprinted off into the woods at an undeniably fast speed that Xena herself doesn't and has never possessed in all her times being reincarnated.
"So you tell me, Miss. Sterling, why have I had the younger of the Sterling sisters in my care all this time? Why did I not notice that this was a regular, useless mutt? How did you manage to fool everyone into believing you were worth something?"
I took one last glance at Faye, she was starting to cower. What she needed was one of Nova's speeches, I wish Nova was here.
Can I try?
My wolf hummed an "mhm" in reply. My heart beat picked up at any sound from her. We haven't gotten Wyatt's serum yet tonight so she's stronger!
"You're right," I whispered, he looked cheeky for a moment but I didn't intend to let that stay," I am intelligent," his eyebrows began to pull together with every word," and fast and regular. I'm not Xena and there's nothing special about me individually. I look like my mother more than my sister, I duped your lackeys and I contacted my mate while doing so. But you are completely off on one thing. I am not useless."
He scoffed, but I wasn't done just yet. My wolf gathered a little bit more power and I knew I would loose her for a while longer if I do this but I have to.
"Also, I'm not a mutt. I'm a purebred."
I shoved him as hard as I could with all the strength my wolf possessed. He fell to the floor with a loud thump and reached back to feel his head, Faye seemed to finally realize that now would be a good time to do something. She leapt onto him and waited for me to tell me what to do. I gestured for his face and she gave me a wolfy nod. Her claws went onto his face, one that could have been considered handsome before, and started on a digging motion.
She went at it for a while before my ears pricked. Guards must have heard his screams and were coming. I reached down and grabbed his key from the bag.
"Faye," I shouted over him," We need to go, now!"
She ran out the door and I followed, locking it from the outside and sliding the key into the room across the hall on my way out.
The long corridors were dark from dusk, we ran as far as we could before I stopped her momentarily. She stared at me like I was insane but I swung my head around, looking at the doors around me.
"We need to get Ulijana and Kayla while we're here. Show me where they are."
She shook her head but I stood my ground. She conceded and took a sharp turn left and straight. Another left, right, straight, right, right and we were in front of 3 identical doors that I recognized from when I lived over here.
I pointed to the door and told her to leap at it with all her strength, she obliged and the door cracked in the middle, large and thick, she shook her head out and I told her to go to the other one.
I brought my leg up and kicked into the door as hard as I could, a hole broke through.
"Hello," a cracked and weak voice said inside.
"It's Holly Sterling, we'll get you out of there!"
Faye got the other door open and went in to get the oracle in there. I kicked the door one more time and prayed that it was Ulijana's door because I don't think I can kick this any more before I loose all my strength.
The person inside went to the door and started pulling at the wood to make a bigger opening. Dark skin. Of course it's Kayla, the full grown adult instead of the small teenager who could get through just fine with this hole.
"Stand back," I told her before kicking it one more time near the bottom but still by the hole so it would be longer. Kayla slid through and Ulijana came out with Faye, half dragging on the floor half walking.
"We have to get out of here," Kayla said, obviously the strongest of us all. My mind started to wonder why she looked so much stronger but I couldn't be bothered to think about it because there was the sound of footsteps down the hall.
The 4 of us ran down the hallway, following Faye best we could through the maze of corridors to the safe haven that will be outside.
We made it to a hall that had 2 different branches to it. I could tell that Faye wanted to go down one but there were people coming from there. She looked to me and I understood.
That's the way to the kitchen.
