Oracle of Wolves

Nova's POV

The scream was heard all through out the pack house. Only moments after it sounded off half the pack was out in the forest, searching for the sound. Including Luke and I, because of one little thing:

That scream came from my sister.

We were in the middle of the woods, half of us wolves and half still human. I had chosen to stay human rather than change, Tyler was right beside me aswell rather than changing in front of everyone else.

Hybrids change slightly differently, they are easier than we are about it and fadter too. When they change entirely, their wolves are larger and stronger than ours with eyes that shine and glow. Truly there is nothing more beautiful than a hybrid's eyes.

I sent a look over towards Tyler. His eyes were their normal, vivid turquoise right now. I felt my wolf let out a grin, one that I couldn't help but mimic.

No one has better eyes than our hybrid.

I agree.

He put out his hand towards me and I took it gently with both my hands.

"Thank you," I muttered to him.

The last thing I see is his smile before my first vision in weeks. The pain was immense with this one, almost like my very first, less by little to none.

I see my sister standing by a tree, tryign desperately to back up further into the tall oak. A menacing growl comes from a large black-brown wolf in front of her, teeth bared and ears back. Behind the wolf there are about 9 dead bodies, all mangled and torn apart behind her, Kian's body can be seen laying behind her. The wolf's black eyes shine with the murder it's just committed. The wolf started towards my sister-

The only sound I hear when I come out of my vision is that of my own scream. I blink repeatedly and try to look around in vain. The only real sense I have right now is the sound of my brother shifting back and that of Tyler panicing, his hands on my shoulders.

"Get out of my way," Luke said, apparently pushing Tyler aside from the sounds.

He sat me down on the ground and asked me what I saw.

"I saw Holly. She was in danger."

"Nova, Nova," he put his hands on my face and turned me to face, what I assume to be, him," Did it end before or after?"

"Before," I replied, my vision starting to come back," But we don't have much time. Oh, god- Kian!"

"Kian," Mike said, pushing through the now crowded area," What about Kian?"

"Now isn't the time, Mike. We have to move, now, before we lose them both!"

At the mention of the death of our young pack members, everyone fell silent. Luke took this as a sign of resignation. Taking a deep breath, he turned back to Mike.

"What do we do now?"

"We..," he thought for a second, still disturbed from the news about his brother," We look for clues. Nova, was their anything in particular about this vision that can help us find them?"

"Um, I think that-," I closed my eyes and thought for a second, going back to the vision in my mind," There was a bluff in the background, and..... And the tree Holly was next to had an orange ribbon on it."

"The bluff is north-west from here," Luke said," No more than five minutes away, but it has three sides that are all extensive and long. It would take hours to check them all."

"There's a small patch of diseased trees near there that's getting torn down on Thursday," Maria, a smaller pack member with long, black hair and silvery blue eyes said," They should have ribbons on them to mark the healthy ones from the diseased."

"Where are they," Mike asked.

"They're on the eastern most side of the bluff," Tyler added suddenly with his head down.

"How do you know that," Mike replied, not bothering to hide the disdain in his voice.

"I spent a lot of time out here over the last month," he looked up at Mike and let out a knowing smirk," Right under your nose."

"You little-"

"Stop," I said quietly, it must have worked though because both boys turned to face me. I gave them both a warning look," We have the information needed. Let's go before we're too late."

They gave each other one last glare before Mike turned back to the collected group.

"Let's break up into pairs and surround them," he turned to me," Nova, you'll be with me-"

"No way," Tyler interrupted," She's my mate."

"She's my girlfriend!"

"Ex-girlfriend, get it right."

"Both of you STOP," Luke yelled at them," You are acting like children while my sister and your little brother are dying! Nova is coming with me and that is FINAL!"

Luke grabbed my hand and pulled me away from the group, not unwillingly might I add, while muttering about how immature they are. We only walked for a few minutes before stopping to change.

The first sign that we made it was that of our sister's desperate scream. Luke and I looked at each other quickly before racing off in the direction of our little sister. The scene that stood before us was exactly like the one I'd seen in my vision.

The black-brown wolf took another step towards my sister and Luke raced off towards her. I whimpered in fear. Luke was strong, yes, but this wolf is huge in size. It wouldn't be taken down as easily as Tyler had. Not by a long shot.

I started off towards them but I was stopped by the sound of a loud howl.

The black-brown wolf and I both looked up to the top of the cliff. A large white wolf stood up at the top, staring down at the lot of us. I noticed that the white wolf had glowing green eyes. I smiled at him, one that must have not shown through on my wolf because he turned to walk away.

Shaking my head, I refocused on what was happening. In the black-brown wolf's moment of distraction, my brother had tackled it and pinned it to the ground. They were wrestling on the ground so I looked around for my sister, she was standing next to her mate's body.

I rushed over to her and changed quickly, throwing the shirt I had taken over my head before placing a hand on her back.

"He almost died," she said with tears streaming down her face. I looked at her gorgeous blue eyes, the same eyes that were flowing with tears of fear. Why is being a sister so hard?

"I know, but he didn't," I put my fingers on his neck to check his pulse, letting out a sigh when I felt that it was steady enough," And he won't. Not if we get him to the pack house soon."

"How is he?"

We both turned to see Mike standing about 5 feet away from us. He had his hands behind his back and was staring at the ground. They must have fought before Kian ran off.

"He's alright right now, but you have to take him to the house now if he has any chance."

He stared at me like I was speaking Arabian for a moment before nodding briskly and walking over to scoop up Kian and run to the house. Holly stared at him with a horrified look on her face.

"Go with him," I whispered to her.

She didn't even look at me before racing off into the woods to catch up with Mike and Kian. I smiled to myself momentarily before I heard a loud squeal.

Turning back to the fighting wolves behind me, I saw that the foreign one was on top of my brother with her teeth biting down on his neck. I ran over to them but was once again stopped by my mate in wolf form.

He launched on top of the black-brown wolf and held her down firmly, leaving my now unconscious brother behind him. He changed back to a human quickly and seemingly effortlessly. Tyler looked angry as he pinned the wolf beneath him, breathing hard and glaring at it.

"ENGOUGH! Change back now, Teresa!"

He stood up from her and took the pants offered to him, pulling them on as the wolf stood up on her own four legs and started changing. After a few moments a girl stood in front of us.

"Hello, brother."

Just a heads up, I'm working on a new cover photo. I think that there will be a new one every 10 chapters. Oh, god. We're at 10 chapters! Damn (in a good way).

"You shouldn't be here," I whisper-yelled to him.

"I shouldn't," he agrees.

"I should let them kill you," I added as he began to walk slowly towards me.

"You should," he tucks a loose strand of hair behind my ear," But you won't."

I'm about to argue that I will when he brings his lips down to meet mine in a slow, thought-halting kiss. Then another. Then another.

Do you know what death is like? I do. I've lived through a million deaths a million ways, it's all the same. There is no angel standing next to you to help you up, no bright light, just a cold feeling followed by something I can only describe as numb. I can't complain though, I was born to see these things. I was born to see death and to stop it. That's what oracles do.
So when I foresee the death of the entire wolf race, I need to find a way to stop it. Only to find out that the one who ends the race is, in fact, my own mate. Can I find it in my heart to let him be killed? Or can I stop the end from coming another way?

This is part of a series, you can get by without reading the first book but be warned that it contains spoilers if you read the previous one later. Book 2.
