I sat in a hard wooden chair in front of a desk. A man sat behind the desk, his feet propped up on the desk; a cigar was smoking from between his fingers. Behind him, Ghost stood ridged and quiet beside the window. The older man looked me up and down, before finally settling on my face. He smiled at me but it didn't reach his eyes. He reminded me of a snake.
"So, you'll already met my doctor and my best sharp-shooter, Ghost." I am Caelum Hendly, but you," his eyes flickered to my chest before going back to my face. "can call me Caelum."
I didn't say anything to him, I just stayed silent, looking at my hands. I was still in shock about the events that had occurred no more than ten minutes ago.
"What's your name, dear?" Caelum asked, trying to be more friendly, than creepy.
I stayed quiet, I just stared at my hands.
He smiled, pushed his feet off of his desk; a smile was pulled to his face, "Well Ms. Quiet, what do you think of my little sanctuary?" He asked me. I could hear the pride in his voice and I saw the gleam of accomplishment in his eyes.
I chose not to speak, to keep my mouth closed in fear that if I said the wrong thing I would end up like a human happy meal for the hungry undead outside.
Caelum watched me for a moment before snorting, "Ghost said that you didn't like my sanctuary, that you wanted to leave. Why are you staying quiet now and not voicing your opinions to me?"
I felt my cheeks heat up with embarrassment, but I quickly shook the feeling away, I wasn't going to let myself be bullied this stranger. I sat up straight and I stared at him with determination.
"You're "sanctuary" isn't safe! You have sick and dying people inside your compound! You're surrounded by zombies and you have no way of escaping if something was to happen!" I told him, my voice held a note of urgency in it.
Caelum chuckled, "So, you fear for your safety?"
I opened my mouth to speak, but Caelum cut me off.
"Now listen here," the smile that had played on his lips a moment ago, was gone. "this is my compound and it is very safe. I have enough armed men and women to take care of any problem that could arise." Caelum paused for a moment, on the other side of the door I could hear the sound of people running. My heart rate sped up, a sinking feeling stirred at the bottom of my belly and I felt my face lose all of it's color.
Caelum's face blanched and I saw his eyes fill with fear before he quickly shoved the emotion away. It was replaced by a look of grim determination.
"Ghost if you would please take our guest back to her room."
Ghost pushed himself off of the wall and came to my side.
I was quick to get to my feet, "This place is dangerous!"
I was ignored completely. Ghost seized my arm and he started dragging me towards the door.
