Heath is found looking at the piece of paper that the journalist left him earlier. Dom is back, huh? He crumpled the piece of paper and throws it away. Why should he care anymore? He thought. She left him. Again. No point trying to save someone who doesn't want to be saved. He should just quit now before it becomes a hole he can't crawl out off.
“Just leave me alone. I don't need to think about you anymore.” Heath curls into a ball of shame on top of his makeshift bed. “I don't think I can see your face after that.”
He frowns at the memory that is still clear to his mind like he was watching a movie.
It was cold, they were in the park.
He had run after her for the second time. He pulled her for a strong embrace, not wanting to let go. Heath wanted to make her feel that she can be safe with him. That she doesn't have to run away anymore.
And when she returned his embrace, he started to feel hopeful.
They lingered in that embrace for along time that there arms felt heavy from the time that passed. Heath didn't mind, he was actually happy. He knew that Dom never acknowledged his feelings, and had made sure that he knew that they will never be more than friends. But at that moment, he felt like she was slowly opening up, and there was this hope in him that maybe this was the start.
He was a fucking idiot to believe that.
After their long embrace at the park, she pulled away and told him that he should stop fantasizing about her and move on. Her face looked like she had nothing more to say to him and she just left.
Her exact words to him was, “You can't save me. I will never love a guy like you. And it will never work out between us. So Heath, stop your stupid fantasies. It's never gonna happen.” I can’t believe I just said that out loud, he thought afterwards.
That bitch.
He hears a loud bang on the door that was probably the janitor telling him to close the place now. So he did. Heath stood from his bed and started closing up the place.
It was Christmas Eve, but he’ll have none of that shit. He has no religion, nor have a reason to celebrate the occasion. Christmas is soooooo overrated and it’s annoying now. He’s probably not the only one, he thought. He can’t be the only one who hates this holiday.
