Slipping Through the Cracks

Welcome

Welcome

Jan 28, 2018

After spilling my guts to Dan, he made it clear that he wanted me to be there and that he understood that I would be upset. I just felt welcome. On the days I worked late, he would make me something nice for dinner, even though I never asked, and it was always something that I really enjoyed. He would usually be in his room when I came home, but if he wasn't asleep he'd come out and greet me. It was almost like we were family or something, instead of roommates, and I loved it.

"I'm home." I called as I walked in the front door, closing it carefully behind me. I heard a crash from Dan's room and his door was closed, but it slowly opened to reveal a very frazzled Dan, who was only wearing a pair of sweatpants, and was covered in what looked like red paint.

"Hey." Dan said as he walked over like nothing happened, "I'm sorry, I wasn't able to make dinner tonight." I frowned for a second, but then smiled.

"It's okay." I said, "I had something at work."- I looked at Dan, who looked mildly upset.- "Is something the matter?"

"I was trying to paint in my room today, but it looks like utter crap." Dan said, "And my shirt was covered in so much paint that you wouldn't be able to tell that it was a pink shirt to begin with."

"Can I see it?" I asked, "I mean, I'm more of a writer than an artist, but at least I can give you my opinion. Besides, where did your shirt go?" Dan looked at his chest.

"Oh, yeah." Dan said, "I took it off because I was going to take a shower. And I heard you come in and accidentally bumped into my Lego collection and knocked most of my mini figures to the ground, but I really wanted to say 'hey', so I left them on the ground."
