"An outsider huh?" Trei uttered, taking a sip from a water flash he had to his side. "I see, if there was news that an outsider came before being verified, I can see the people freaking... That's just way things are I suppose..." he passed comment as Aria nodded.
"He's pretty young so it was surprising... I've been told to tend to him whilst he is healthy enough to leave... With his bad eyesight... I wonder why he was travelling to begin with..." she thought out loud to herself as Trei also gave a thoughtful expression.
"You'd be surprised... Different villages have different customs... Or so I find whilst I venture about..." Trei mentioned, his words catching Aria's attention.
"So there are places where kids are meant to travel big places... You are from the capital aren't you Trei? Was it like that there? I mean, you are quite young and you are an explorer," Aria inquired as Trei looked up a little, screwing the lid back onto his flask.
"Not quite... Back at capital we get the choice on whether we want to leave or not... Though they do push for you to become an explorer there..." Trei mentioned as Aria raised her hand a little.
"Well in all honesty at first I thought he may have come from capital. I mean he was dress in armour and everything... Oh and he even had this large sword with him..." Aria noted as this statement seemed to catch Trei's attention...
"Armour?" He repeated as his eyes lit up faintly to her words, Aria nodding a little..
"Is that normal in capital?" Aria then asked as Trei's eyes narrowed faintly.
"Not really..." he responded, raising his hand beneath his chin whilst deep in thought... "Though I have an idea maybe..." Trei mentioned as Aria tilted her head in curiosity.
"Eh? Really?" She questioned.
"Recently there has been a phenomena known as ghost villages..." Trei mentioned as Aria flinched a little to his response.
"Eh?! He's a ghost?" She questioned as Trei shook his head as he then looked over to her.
"No but..." he began as a faint smile appeared on his face to Aria... "If you don't mind, I'd like to meet him before he leaves... Okay...?"
Inside of Aria's house Rue was sat upon the small hospital bed, rolling the tracking device in his hand a thoughtful expression upon his face. He wasn't expecting to have found himself in a warm building for quite a while... Or even have time to rest for that matter... Still...
'You are quite unfortunate aren't you?'
He wondered if he had the time to just be sitting around here at all.. He sat back a bit, raising his scarf up to his mouth a little as he gave a small sigh. He couldn't see how badly wounded he was, but he could certainly feel it... Even if he wanted to leave early it didn't seen as though he would be getting anywhere any time soon.
'You may not remember... But I saved you last night...'
He hadn't said thank you yet to the girl that had saved him... He couldn't see what she looked like, but she seemed like a kind person. He was going to have to thank her upon her return... He began spinning the sphere of the tracking device within it's cube again absentmindedly... It looked like she was going to get in trouble for this however...
BEEP BEEP BEEP
A sudden high pitched beeping made Rue jump as he almost dropped the sphere in his hands.
"What- What is making that sound?!' He thought to himself in a panic, unable to make out the source of the noise through the darkness of his sight. He backed up a bit, his body tensing, when he then noticed a peculiar sensation from his hand. There came a pulsating sensation from the sphere in his hand, that synched up to that of the beeping noise, Rue giving a curious glance towards it... The beeping was coming from this thing Aria gave him.
'When it's dormant, it's pretty fun to mess about with!'
Aria's words from earlier flashed into his mind as Rue span the sphere once more, his eyes narrowing a little.
"What...?" He muttered, raising his hand a little to his right a little as he noticed it reacted more in that direction... "What is this thing....?"
It was only a little while later that there came a clicking from the door that made Rue flinch a little. The beeping of the device in his hand had stopped, however it did not make him any less cautious about it as he found that his mindless fiddling of it had come to a close. It was with the sound of as sigh that he recognised Aria's return as after the two small thuds of shoes being taken off by the doorway, he heard a rush of footsteps in his direction.
"A-ah you are okay... Hello there, it is me Aria..." she greeted herself as the boy nodded looking in the direction of her voice as Aria walked over to him.
"Are you finished with work today?" He inquired as Aria nodded, grabbing the wet towel that was now beside him.
"Yes... well I didn't exactly do my job today..." she explained. It was then that Aria placed her hand over her glove, seeming to hesitate for a second... However it was only a momentary hesitation as she then took her glove off properly as she continued to talk. "I got asked to attend to you instead until you are well enough to leave..." she went on as Rue tilted his head a little.
"I see..." he muttered, when Aria then placed her hand upon his forehead, Rue giving a slightly surprised expression, his cheeks lighting up in a small hue of embarrassment as she took his temperature... He then glanced over to his his left a little... "You're a nurse huh? It seems like you are too young to be one..." he went on as Aria looked back up at him after staring at her own hand for a small while.
"A-Ah yes... Well in this village kids are put to work young... I'm not a real nurse yet, just an apprentice..." she explained as Rue gave a curious expression to this fact... Even so, to be a nurse this young... She seemed like a pretty intelligent person. He stroked his thumb along the side of the small cubed device with a sphere within in his hands slightly, his eyes becoming more thoughtful. Intelligent enough to make this strange device that is... He needed to ask her about it.
"Erm... Aria..." he began when he stopped as he heard a sudden clatter from before him. "Eh- What just happened?"he stammered as sat before him, having dropped the water bowl she was using in order to soak the towel once more for Rue, water now all over the floor.
"S-sorry... It just came as a surprise... I haven't heard somebody actually say my name in quite a while..." she then explained, her voice sounding somewhat shaky for some reason to Rue, as she went on to clean up the mess she had made... Rue gave her an estranged expression.
"Don't people call you by your name?" He asked her in concerned confusion as Aria looked back at him, falling rsther quiet for a moment... When she then lifted her hand up to her mask a little, lightly touching it.
"Not... Not really... It's just not something people really do..." she explained as she picked up the bowl, walking off to go and grab a rag to clean up the dropped water. "I'm the sort of person that... I'm very easy to identify, so people don't worry to call me by my name..." she went on as just by the slightly timid tone of her voice, Rue could feel the lump that had formed in her throat... So she was a girl with secrets to hide... He looked down a little, raising his scarf a little over his nose. Did that mean not even the nurse earlier would call her by her name...? How lonely...
Aria returned with the dry cloth as well as a wet one for Rue's forehead as she put the wet cloth upon the side momentarily as she went to clean up the mess first...
"I meant to ask... You said you made this earlier..." he decided to change the subject for her sake, realising it was not a topic she didn't want to persist on. Aria looked up at the device he held up in his hands as she jumped a little upon him bringing it up.
"A-Ah yes... It's just a hobby I picked up... I like making things like that..." she explained as Rue placed his one finger upon it.
"Earlier it was making alot of noise... I don't know why though, is it meant to do that?" He then asked as Aria paused seeming to become rather interested in what he was saying. When she then gave a rather excited gasp.
"R-Really?! It was beeping?! Lucky, that means there is treasure nearby!" She explained, her voice now sounding rather uobeat as Rue raised an eyebrow at her.
"Eh?" He uttered at a loss, not expecting that to be the answer to his question.
"The crystal inside of it pulsates whenever there is good materials to scavenge nearby! I- the reason it beeps is because I placed it in a metal that gives of a sound when the vibrations knock against it... I... I din't know what causes it, but it's really interesting right?" She explained as Rue gave a slightly astonished expression upon finding this out. She truly was smart! Somebody with a brain like hers was someone without a name in her village?
"It's pretty amazing... Do you use things like this in your nursing too?" He asked as Aria then froze a little...
"Ah... Well you see... This kind of stuff is seen as an act against the gods... So it's forbidden in this village... I do it in secret..." Aria's tone quite audibly lost it's enthusiasm as Rue's biting concerns returned to him... But with them came somewhat of a sense of ease as he felt as though he was perhaps starting to understand Aria's situation a little more... Was the reason her name wasn't spoken was because she was doing stuff like this... In a religious village... Rue gripped the sphere in his hand a little tighter... Ah... What a waste... Rue's expression became somewhat empty... To prevent such things for any such gods were such a tragic waste...
"But... I want to use this stuff in medicine soon if possible" Aria went on, snapping Rue out of of his distant thoughts as she placed the wet towel upon his head. "It would be nice, if these inventions could be of some use to some people..."she explained as Rue gave her a rather surprised expression... She was already able to make something rather unique and useful whilst young... Given a few years it could be incredible to see what she could do and make... He tightened his grip around the tracking device... Even if it meant he may not necessarily be around to see it. He gave a slightly warm smile, reaching over to Aria, before then patting her head, an action which made Aria freeze.
"Yeah, I hope you get to..." he told her as Aria became a little stunned by his words and actions... He was patting her head and his words were very assuring... However hollow... Somehow, she felt a certain emptiness in those words he spoke to her, a grimacing blankness to his eyes... It was then however that Rue's head patting suddenly stopped as he seemed to become faintly bewildered, as Aria looked back to him... His slightly stunned look, changed to that of puzzlement as slowly his hands slid down to her face, Aria giving a slightly panicked breath, tensing up as Rue became even more lost... What he felt in place of her face was smooth... And cold, it didn't give off a human warmth... It was almost like wood as Rue then looked up to Aria with a surprised expression.
"Aria... Why are you wearing a mask?" He then asked as Aria tensed he grip somewhat...
