Once his feet hit the ground, he pointed to one of the military jeeps that sat quietly near the breech.
"We have to get to that!" he hissed to me as he started to move towards the car.
I grabbed his arm and jerked him back, "Why? Why not just run off into the woods?" his plan was stupid and dangerous.
Ghost rounded on me, "Because there's nothing but dead in those woods, where do you think all these zombies are coming from? If you want to run go 'head and see if you'll last, be my guest, but I'm not gonna stop you. I'm going for the working car!" and he took off towards the jeep. I looked from him to the wooded area, before groaning. I spun on my heels and followed Ghost to the jeep. Why take the chance, right?
Ghost was already pulling himself through the passenger side of the jeep to the driver's side. I stepped my way into the jeep before slamming the door closed. I mentally cursed myself for slamming the door, because the moment I did, several undead looked our way. Their hungry eyes fell upon us and they started to make their way over to the jeep.
"Wait-a-go, Red! You might as well have just screamed where we are!" Ghost hissed as he worked with the wires under the steering wheel.
"It was an accident!" I growled, zombies were already pressing their hands against the windows.
"We can't afford accidents in the apocalypse!" Ghost said as the jeep roared to life. A wave of relief rushed through me as Ghost put the jeep in drive.
"Brace for it, Red. It's going to be a bumpy ride." Ghost said to me before slamming his foot onto the gas pedal. We rolled over several undead on our way away from the compound.
From the rearview mirror, I watched the compound grow smaller and smaller until it was just a speck in the distance. We had left the compound and now we drove with no destination at all. And we just drove, with no idea where we were going, we were just trying to get away from the hordes of the undead.
