"Arena! RUN!" I heard my mother yell to me as she chased one of the hunters. But I couldn't move. My feet were stuck to the ground. All I could do was watch the scene unfold before my eyes. I watched as wolves were shot and bleeding out... I watched them lodge a sharp blade into my mothers chest.
Overcome with fear and anger I turned into my wolf form and ran away as fast as I could from the scene. My feet felt like they were tearing from the sharp rocks under my feet. But I didn't stop.
I couldn't hold back the whine that slipped past my lips as I remembered the thought... My mother. The one who had sworn to protect me. Dying in front of me. How could she do that! How could she risk her life for mine. We could have ran away together. We could have lived!
I slipped on uneven ground and landed with a thump in a pile of leaves. I laid there for what seemed like hours, sobbing. The forest was silent. For the first time in a while... Not even the crows talked. When I finally was able to compose myself, I sat up but yelped from a sharp pain in my ankle.
"Ow..." I licked the blood off as much I could and tucked my leg under me. I guess I'll have to stay here a while. Stupid mom. If she hadn't done that... she could help me. More tears streamed down my face. Stupid.
But I still couldn't help but think... That my mom was with me. I could feel her next to me. Maybe it was the loss of blood or maybe she really was here... in spirit. "I miss you..." I whimpered into the night as I drifted into darkness.
