As we exited the guild hall it felt like the whole building let out a sigh of relief at me finally leaving. I wanted to feel sad at the thought, but with what Erith had told me it was a completely justified response, I wasn't supposed to exist. I had just thrown a live grenade into this world I didn't know existed until a few hours ago, I just got here and already I was an outcast. The worst part was I knew I would feel the exact same if I were in their position, their entire had just been flipped completely upside down.
Viktor put a hand on my shoulder causing me to jump a little "There's no need to feel down man, they're just as scared as you are," I highly doubted that. I looked over to him and saw that he was smiling, or at least trying to, he was trying to be brave for me, but I could tell he was terrified too. His shoulders were trembling and his wild hair was beginning to sag, as if it were affected by his mood, knowing that he was feeling down. I gave him a pained smile back "It's alright, I don't feel too bad," that was of course a complete lie, but I didn't want him to worry any more than he already was.
I glanced over at Lilith who seemed to be in the worse shape, her head was down and she looked dreadful. Her face had gone ghost white and her lips were quivering, she looked like she was about to collapse and burst into tears, but she didn't which I kind of admired. She was clearly a very strong individual who had been through a lot in her life, there was no doubting that. I wanted to go over and give her a hug, but I was afraid she might stab me in the chest before I even got within two feet so I decided against it.
We made our way left after exiting the guild hall, Viktor was in the front of us, acting somewhat like a tour guide, providing useful information on the camp. "The camp is broken into two different sections; In the larger we have the living area, where all the cabin and, of course, the guild hall is. The smaller circle is the training area, it houses the training grounds, the armory, and the arena where we have daily events, I think tonight is Tower Climb..." I cocked my head sideways slightly "Tower Climb, what's that?" My question was met with a very devilish grin "Well, us Gigrias descendants put together a deadly contraption that any challenger willing to participate has to try and reach the top of first!" He sounded far more excited than he should have.
Viktor then pointed to the side of us at the cabins "These here are the boys cabins, each houses 25 or so descendants, they are decorated by the members living inside, you'll get sorted into a cabin before you go to bed so don't worry" Each of the cabins had various unique design choices, some had spikes and smokestacks, others had giant waterslides going in every direction possible. The only unifying feature of them was a large wooden sign with glowing numbers, each seemed to be the letter B followed by a number one through seven heading to the center where another row of cabins started.
Viktor pointed to a cabin plated with large black steel panels and grates that seemed to be glowing orange "That's my cabin over there" The sign on the front read "Cabin B-4: Forges of Hell" I gave him a weak smile and a concerned glance as I watched one of the many plates open up and launch a missile into the distance, blowing up several large trees. He grinned widely "This is Julian's cabin too, but he's..." He stopped short as the man himself walked out of the door, looking slightly annoyed.
Viktor flailed his arm wildly "Hey Julian! We were just talking about you!" He looked over to Viktor, sighed and made his way over to us. "Hello Viktor" He narrowed his eyes as he looked over at me clearly, he was aware of the circumstances too. "Where are you going dude?" Viktor asked him. Julian returned his attention to the spastic boy in front of him "I'm the cabin head, remember? Erith called us to meet her, you were there..." Viktor shrunk "Oh yeah, I kinda forgot about that..."
Julian glared at Viktor who was still blocking his way "Well, is there something you need?" Viktor looked back up at Julian "Oh... yeah, sorry, no... was just saying hi..." He sidestepped allowing Julian to walk past. "Well hi, I have things to do, see you later." He walked towards the guild hall, shaking off the annoyance of having to deal with Viktor. As soon as Julian was out of view, Viktor popped back up and continued walking.
We walked silently for quite a while until we reached a cabin labeled "Cabin A-2: Sanctuary of Knowledge" Lilith piped up "Wait here, I need to go get something from inside" We watched as she quickly dashed inside the building to get who knows what. This cabin was much more simplistic than the others, it was a simple wood cabin that would expect to find in the woods. Through the windows I could vaguely make out several large bookshelves, each completely filled with books.
Before long, Lilith came dashing back out of the cabin, this time she had an odd scarf around her neck. At first, I thought it was just some elaborate pattern, but once she got closer I realized that her scarf didn't look like fire, it was fire. Wrapped around her neck was an actual scarf made completely of glowing orange flames, sparks flew off the scarf as it was flung around by Lilith's movement. She came to a stop and the scarf calmed, falling loosely behind her back, but somehow not burning her at all. That was when I noticed it, on the front of the scarf, embroidered in gold lettering, was a roman numeral seven, just like all the people in the guild hall had, clearly it was meant to represent the camp.
Viktor seemed completely unphased by the fact that Lilith had a scarf made of literal fire around her neck. As if reading my mind, she responded "Don't worry about it, it only burns if I want it to and right now I don't feel that it is necessary" Instead on calming me, it only scared me more, she had a scarf made of fire that she could choose whether or not it roasted you alive. "But, how... Where did you get it?" I stammered out, barely even being able to think of what I wanted to say. She looked back to me, stopping "I got it from my mystical ancestor, Exfernerous. When we descendants turn twelve we are usually sent a gift from the master of magic which we are descended"
I shrugged my shoulders, I guess it didn't make any less sense than all the other crazy stuff I had heard about and seen today, after all, I had ridden here on a freaking dragon, a scarf made of fire seemed somewhat normal to that. That thought bothered me though, why did all of this seem so normal? I should be losing my mind right now, everything I've been told about magic and masters has completely changed what I thought life was, yet here I am taking a casual tour around a magical camp for training descendants of deities! What is wrong with me?!
I must have been making some very odd face because Viktor looked at me and said "Dude, are you alright?" I tried to make a normal face and responded "Yeah, sorry, I'm just so confused... you guys have told me all this stuff and I've barely even fought it, I mean here we are, taking a tour like I'm just some brand-new member of the camp. I didn't even know this kind of place could exist a few hours ago!" Viktor and Lilith exchanged awkward glances "That might be up to the fact that your dad is a master of magic. It would make sense that having his DNA and some of his personality would lead this kind of thing to seem more natural even when you've lived your life completely differently up to this point," Lilith pointed out, very matter-of-factly.
I scratched my head, saying "I guess that could make some sense, this just doesn't really feel real..." Viktor shrugged, then got much closer to my face, peering inquisitively into my eyes. "Wait, how do you know nothing about this world, how did your mom play it off when you got those eyes as a gift from your dad. I mean, she must have known who he was, right?" I looked at him, sporting a very confused face "What do you mean, I didn't get them as a gift, I've had these since birth, do the masters actually give their descendants eyes?"
Viktor laughed nervously "Yeah, actually my eye was the gift Gigrias gave to me" he said pointing to his right eye, it was a lime green color and had strange lines coming out of the pupil almost like sun rays "It seems kinda weird I guess, but it's how most people get them, being born with one of the Mystic eyes is rare enough, but being born with two different is completely unheard of," He shrugged, but was clearly very interested. "So, what exactly do these 'Mystic eyes' do?" I asked, pointing to Viktor's odd-looking eye.
He plopped himself down, clearly anticipating this to be a long chat "Well, there are 3 different eyes that we descendants can get. Each eye is caused by a different kind of essence" He pulled his eyelids open, making it easier to see his eye "This one is known as the Eye of the Powerful, it does exactly what you'd think it increases some physical aspect of a person, be it speed, strength, endurance, etcetera. Mine happens to increase my speed allowing me to move at some pretty insane speeds!" He mimed a running motion which felt very ironic given that he was currently sitting on the ground.
"Next, we have your two eyes; Your left eye is known as the Eye of the Observer and it deals with augmenting peoples vision, allowing them to see farther, through walls, and even essence in a more tangible and manageable form that with E-Crystal goggles," he pointed to the goggles on his forehead as he said this. "Finally, we have the most complicated one, the Eye of the Cursed. That's your right eye, if you couldn't guess. It has a whole slew of different abilities, but they all relate to destruction essence in one way or another" he paused briefly, thinking about something. "It's odd though, cursed eyes are supposed to make people more malicious and violent even when not active, hmm, I guess there could be some exceptions..."
The shifted my feet awkwardly at that last comment, I knew why I wasn't usually like that. Viktor stared at me, he could tell I was hiding someone, but luckily, he had the sense not to pry on the matter. "By the way, do you want me to deactivate your left eye, I do imagine whatever effect it has is quite obnoxious to be constantly deal with" I responded by simply nodding. I didn't know what he was doing, but he got very close to me and then held out his index finger and pointed at my right eye. Out of nowhere a golden square with a circle inside of it appeared over my left eye then, to my surprise, it shattered into small golden fragments that faded into the wind. My vision slowly returned to normal as all the auras vanished from vision, relieving me of a headache that had gone somewhat unnoticed until now.
"Now, why don't we find out what your cursed eye does, shall we?" Before his finger could even start moving, my hand shot up and grabbed it, squeezing his finger tightly "No, we shall not." My tone was forceful enough to cause Viktor's eyes to widen in shock, and he dropped his hand. I figured it was over, so I stood up and began walking, still following close behind Viktor. Out of nowhere he yelled out "Grab his arms!" And suddenly I was on the ground with Lilith holding my hands in place, her grip was strong so I couldn't move.
I kicked my feet around wildly, but to no avail, I was not moving anytime soon, I began to panic. Viktor appeared to my side "Dude, chill, I highly doubt you're going anywhere, Lilith is really strong. Just relax and let me do my thing" Lilith gave me an anxious smile and looked up "You sure you should be doing this?" She said, her voice a little apprehensive. Viktor responded simply with "Too curious, don't really care" As his finger drew closer to my eye I started kicking faster, my heart was racing and I couldn't think straight.
Viktor drew another glowing circle with a square in the center, this time it glowed brown though. I froze and watched in horror as I began to change. The first thing was my worn-out shoes, they became much more pristine and turned from green to a deep maroon color. Next the change made its way upwards, slowly changing my jacket from a vibrant green to a dark purple color. I could feel the change closing in on my eye as it slowly changed the strands of hair from their usual bright green to a darker, faded purple.
I watched in horror as my vision tunneled and went black, flinging me backwards and tossing me into a chair. It was comfy, but I didn't care right now, I bolted out of the chair and through the darkness up to what looked like a large circular window. I was watching what had just happened, my body changing, and then the vision was engulfed in a column of purple wind and lightning that expanded outward and exploded. Once the smoke and dust had cleared the vision was now higher up, looking down on the collapsed figures of Lilith and Viktor, a voice spoke "Well, hello again"
