As soon as I saw the column of wind and lightning form, I swallowed hard and prepared myself for the ensuing events. Dark purple lightning slowly coiled its way up the column, casting an eerie glow inside the tunnel that radiated malevolence. Then, slowly, the tunnel expanded and began to form a large chaotic sphere of wind and lightning. I looked away, knowing what would happen next. The next thing I heard was cackling and then a loud boom, followed by deathly silence.
I turned back to the window and gazed in horror at what was in front of me. To the left, the guild hall was left completely unscathed by the explosion, a translucent shield of glowing energy faded from just outside its walls, it was similar to the one Lilith had conjured to block the fireball, but this one was golden. The same barrier had formed around the cabins on all sides as well and was soon to fade as well. A few people were beginning to gather outside, they were staring at me, well Sylak, that is.
At his feet were the mangled bodies of Lilith and Viktor. Their clothes were torn and underneath they had hundreds of small bloody incisions covering their skin. Lilith's wings were fully spread out across the ground, they had a few tears running up and down the folds, I hoped she'd be alright. Next to her, Viktor wasn't much better off, his hair was standing straight up with sparks surging off the ends. His palms were black with soot clearly, he had tried to stop the explosion, but to no avail.
My eyes began to fill with tears as I started banging on the window in anguish "God damn it! Why did they have to get involved in this?!" Tears were dropping to the ground, sizzling out in the inky blackness. Suddenly out of nowhere came an echoey and all too familiar voice "Don't worry, I'm sure they're still alive, it'd be a problem if they weren't, I need some answers. So how about you just sit tight and calm down." This surprised me, Sylak having no ill intentions for once? That didn't seem very likely although, if he wanted answers it seemed much more likely.
I decided to ignore it and frantically looked around for an exit that I knew didn't exist. There was only two was I could get out of here: Sylak chose to allow me back in control, or Viktor undid whatever it was that forced me to transform. The latter seemed far more likely at the moment, so I decided to just sit down and watch the event play out. I hesitantly made my way over to the chair, each step echoing loudly throughout the room.
Once I had reached the chair I stopped, cautiously eyeing up the chair. It didn't seem to be anything special, it was just a simple green armchair. The odd part was, it seemed brand new, it didn't look like it had ever been used. I knew that the things in the mental plane could somewhat be controlled and nothing ever really went away. It seemed very possible that this chair had been created specifically for me the last time I had been here and it had just been stored away for future use.
I lowered myself into the chair and was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it was. I guess it made sense considering the chair seemed that it had never been used before. I could hear the springs compressing like a trampoline as I got myself settled down. I had no other choice at the moment, so all I did was watch through the windows as events unfolded.
At first all Sylak was doing was simply looking at himself, admiring how great a physical form felt. "My my my, there is just nothing like having a real body of flesh and blood" His tone unnerved me every time I heard it, much higher than my own, but still so similar. And there was that odd bit to it, there always seemed to be a second voice that talked just a few moments after, it was quieter and much harder to hear though.
One thing I noticed that I usually couldn't tell about him was how pale his skin was. It was the exact same body, save for the color of the clothing, but the skin, instead of being the usual light tan color, was now ghostly white, it was slightly off-putting now that I got a good look at it. He felt like a vampire, which honestly seemed pretty fitting, considering who I was describing.
Sylak squatted down, eyeing up the bodies of Viktor and Lilith carefully. "Phew! That's a lot of built up power..." He remarked, looking around at the unscathed buildings. "I'm far less happy with the fact that these buildings are completely fine though" Clearly the unintentional transformation's effect had left him quite disappointed, I certainly was opposed to the lack of destruction though.
Sylak returned his attention to the people at his feet as he began to poke and prod them all over, clearly trying to wake them up. "You basically just blew them up! I highly doubt there going to wa..." I stopped short as Viktor began to move around slightly. I tightly gripped the arms of my chair in anticipation, was he okay?
Viktor slowly blinked soot out of his eyes as he frantically looked around, trying to figure out what had happened. He stopped dead when he saw what had happened to Lilith. He began feverishly shaking her and shouting completely incoherent phrases, he was distraught, as he should be. They were not in a good position right now.
Lilith jolted up, sword already in hand somehow, it was pointed right at Viktor's throat. "Why are you shaking me?!" She barked angrily, wincing from all the cuts. Viktor quickly scooted backwards, holding up his hands defensively "I was seeing if you were okay, and I didn't really know what to do, I panicked" He seemed truly terrified of something happening to her.
Lilith sighed, sheathing her sword "I don't think shaking me was the best course of action..." Her voice trailed off as she turned towards me, or Sylak "Oh, don't mind me" he said dryly. Lilith quickly shot to her feet "Who the hell are you?" Sylak stood as well, tilting his head down slightly "Oh, me? The name's Sylak, I'm the little demon living inside Avien's head" his tone was somewhat sarcastic, but he was completely serious.
The two apprentices tensed getting into a more offensive stance, ready to strike at any point. "What did you do to Avien?" Viktor asked shakily, clearly forgetting the change that had occurred right before he was rendered unconscious. Sylak waved his hand dismissively "Oh, him? Don't worry he's perfectly fine, but if you want him to stay that way you're going to have to answer a few questions..."
Lilith and Viktor exchanged nervous glances and then returned their attention to Sylak. "What kind of questions?" Lilith said, moving her hand to the hilt of her sword, not being too easy on the crazy purple psycho before her. A smart move, I knew better than anyone that Sylak was not one to be taken lightly. "Oh just a few simple questions about what in sanity's name is going on" Sylak's tone was a bit shaking, he was actually a bit frightened about the situation we had been presented with.
Sylak sat himself down on the ground, unevenly crossing his legs and waiting for the other two to follow suit. After a second, they obliged and sat themselves down, folding their legs in a similar fashion. Lilith's hand was still firmly grasping the hilt of her sword. Viktor, oddly enough, was cupping a hand full of dirt and rocks he had just pulled from the ground next to him. I saw Lilith's scarf grow brighter and wilder, seeming to mirror her unease.
"Well, my first question would have to be; What exactly is this cursed eye thing? My existence within the physical realm seems to be tied to it somehow, but outside of that, I'm completely lost..." Sylak spoke very matter-of-factly, it was somewhat unnerving considering his usual composure was quite snarky and arrogant.
Viktor cocked his head sideways, somewhat baffled by the question "If you know only exist because of it, how do you not know what it is?" His eyes were once again scrutinizing every detail, intrigued in Sylak. "Well, our boy Avien locked me away in his head, so I haven't had access to very much info, let alone any on the cursed eye, we lived in the 'mortal realm' as you called it, they don't really know about all this" he gestured around, referring to everything.
Viktor let out a nervous chuckle "I suppose that's fair. Well, as I said before it can do all kinds of things, which all relate to destruction essence in one way or another." Viktor flipped down his goggles once more and looked at Sylak "For instance, you seem to have destruction essence flowing in your body now, before I only saw creation, so yours, or Avien's eye of the cursed must replace your creation with destruction essence by flooding your body with it, or something of that nature"
I couldn't actually see it, but I could feel Sylak smirking at that "Destruction essence, I like the sound of that..." He mused, looking down at his pale hands which seemed to be emitting a bit of a glow. "Wait, you said Avien's cursed eye is how you exist, what exactly did you mean by that?" Sylak looked back up, eyeing Viktor and his question. "Well, you remember that little bit about people growing more malicious from their eye of the cursed? It turns out our little kitten didn't like that all too much and he locked all that away, from all that anger and malice I was born, only to see the light whenever he falls off the rails" Sylak said very dryly, not too happy about it, as always.
Viktor looked over to Lilith, eyes wide in shock, clearly this was something very new to them. "Was that all you wanted to know?" Lilith said in a low voice. "Oh of course not, I want to know how exactly he activates the eye or whatever?" Lilith looked nervous at him, almost as though she could see me. "Well, you know that little think Viktor did with the golden circle? That's called a seal, and when you place one on the eye opposite the mystical one, it's activated..."
Sylak looked down, fidgeting with his thumbs, growing quite antsy "But, how exactly does he make one of those?" He said nervously. "Well, all you need is a basic understanding of the control and manipulation of essence and magic" Lilith stated. "Well, you better teach him how to do that stuff, I do not want to be stuck in this kitten's head for years on end!" Sylak's voice was shaky, far less confident than before. It was very strange to see this less collected side of him.
Viktor lifted his hands defensively "Chill dude, as long as you give us back Avien we will definitely teach him" He steadily got to his feet and began to approach Sylak. Sylak quickly shot to his feet "Alright, but if you don't I will kill you..." The confidence was completely drained of his voice, but Viktor nodded in compliance. "Now do whatever you have to do to get Avien back before I change my mind" Sylak said, as Viktor shifted his goggles back on top of his hair.
Viktor waved his hand in front of my left eye and the brown seal appeared once more, though it seemed a bit dimmer this time. As soon as it had appeared it shattered into several glowing pieces that quickly faded from vision. As it did I felt myself slowly getting pulled towards the window. As soon as I knew what was happening, I broke into a run, quickly reaching the window. Once I did I was pulled into the window, and just like that, I was back in my own body. I watched as my clothes returned to their normal worn-out green state.
I immediately fell to the ground, landing squarely on my back. My entire body was completely exhausted from its purple hijacking and it simply wanted to rest, but I knew I couldn't do that right now. I tried to pick myself up, but was only able to prop myself up on a single arm. Once I had righted myself, I was immediately greeted by the worried faces of Lilith and Viktor. I managed to breathe out a single shaking word "Hey..."
