As I sat there I winced, it felt like someone had just punched me over and over again in every part of my body. This was the worst pain I had ever felt after being Sylak, including the last time, but I couldn't focus on that right now. I looked up to Viktor and Lilith, their faces a mix of confused, worried, and afraid. Problem was, I couldn't really blame them, they had just witnessed some random kid they just met transform into an insane alter ego, creating a giant explosion in the process.
I winced, feeling a sharp pain in my side, through my shirt I could see blood spreading across where I assumed the wound was located. I lifted up my shirt and examined the wound which was quickly closing up, as they always did. Ethereal black thread was quickly sewing the skin back together forming some very odd and creepy looking stitches on my side. As I looked at my hand, where the cut from punching the wolf had been, the same black stitches had formed. They still hurt and it certainly wasn't professional medical help, but it always helped out, making me feel a little better.
"Hey, are you... what is that?" I jumped at the sudden voice, Viktor was sitting right next to me, examining the injury and the odd stitching. "I've never seen anything like that, is it because of whatever that was that just happened with that weird purple guy?"
I nervously looked over to him "Umm... I really don't know, anytime I get a cut or other they just... show up and stitch me back together." My voice was hoarse and very hollow sounding, as though someone had just told me I had cancer.
Lilith continued to stand, looking down at Viktor and I, one hand still on her sword hilt "He's not going to come back, right? The purple guy, I mean..." She seemed very worried, her knuckles were turning white from her hard grip.
I nodded, still looking down in a mix of shame and sorrow "His name is Sylak, and no, he will not be coming back... though I have a feeling once I know how to do whatever you did he's gonna want to get out a bit more" I said, looking over at Viktor.
He lowered his head clearly, he felt guilty about causing me to go all purple psycho. "Yeah... sorry about that, I didn't think anything like that would happen... I was just curious..."
"Curious to what?! See if he could kill us all?! The eye of the cursed has many powers, but they all link to destruction essence! What did you think was going to happen?!"
Viktor and I both looked up to Lilith, her face was blood red, but she wasn't angry, there were tears streaming down her face. I tried to say something, but I couldn't find the words, I had messed up, again. Every time I became him something bad happened, even if he just wanted a friendly chat he still managed to make one person feel guilty and scare the other. This eye really was a curse and I wish I had never been born with it, all it brought was sorrow.
"Lilith... I..." He stopped short, looking around. A crowd of people had begun to gather around us obviously, drawn in by the commotion created by the explosion. "What are you looking at?! Can't you see she's upset?!" Viktor yelled angrily at the crowd.
It had no effect, they all continued to glare at me, their looks ranging between awe and complete terror. I just showed up to the camp and everyone already hated me for multiple reasons. I wanted to just crawl up and cry until everything was better, but before I could I saw Lilith extend her wings and fly into the air. She hovered a couple feet of the ground and held out her open palm, a red seal forming, much like the ones I had seen before.
"Go away!" Lilith shouted as a ring of fire quickly formed in front of the campers that had gathered around us. The fire didn't actually frighten them all too much, but they seemed to get the message and they filed back over to the training grounds.
As soon as they had dispersed she glided back to the ground, folding her wings back up. The seal above her palm disappeared, as did the ring of fire, the three of us were pretty much alone once more. We looked around at each other, not really knowing what to say, I was terrified to speak and they seemed to be in the same position.
Before any of us could say anything however, Lilith collapse to the ground, completely unconscious. My eyes widened in shock as Viktor and I simultaneously rushed over to check on her. Where all the cuts on her body had been there was a strange dark smoke curling up as if someone had burned her wounds. I looked over at Viktor, completely freaking out, I had no idea what happened or what to do.
"Don't worry, she's going to be fine, this kind of thing is nothing new at all" he said in a very reassuring tone. He took some bandages out of his pocket and began applying them to the cuts.
"What happened to her? She seemed fine, and then she just collapsed." I tried to keep my voice steady, but it was hard to keep calm while looking at all the odd cuts and the collapsed form of Lilith.
"All that wind and lightning must have been a lot worse than we thought." He finished placing the last bandage and stood up. "We're going to need to bring her to the infirmary, it's just across the training grounds near the entrance." He pointed a finger to the ground and I watched as a makeshift wooden stretcher grew right underneath Lilith.
I stood in awe as I watched each branch grow and connect together with vines "Woah, that's so cool! And really handy." Viktor knelt down grabbing one end of the stretcher and looked up at me.
"Yeah, I suppose so. Can you grab the other end, we need to get her to the infirmary as soon as possible." I nodded, quickly kneeling down and picking up the other end of the stretcher.
As we walked across the training grounds I could feel everyone's eyes on us, but I suspected they were much more interested in me, I was the kid who exploded after all. But, there was more to it than that, it felt like they could tell that I didn't belong here, and they were right, I didn't belong here, I knew nothing about this world. I saw dark spots begin to form on the wood just above Lilith's head, that was when I realized I was crying.
"Avien? Are you okay? You don't have to worry, this wasn't your fault at all... if anything, it's mine." Viktor's face was as pale as a ghost, I couldn't blame him for feeling bad, I'd been in his position many times, believing that some bad thing that happened was your fault.
"How can I be okay? Despite what you think, this is my fault, you could never have known that this could happen..." I wiped the tears out of my eyes, trying to simply focus on getting to infirmary.
We walked in silence for the rest of the way, neither of us really wanted to talk about it, Viktor clearly didn't usually deal with this kind of thing. This wasn't the kind of thing you can just get used to, it takes a long time to adjust to this happening over and over again. We just had to focus on walking and making sure that Lilith got the treatment that she needed, whatever that may be.
Before I knew it, we were at the infirmary, Viktor motioned for me to go inside. The building was nothing too special, just a simple white building with a red plus sign on the top. The inside was exactly as you would think it to be, a dozen or so beds lined across the walls, IVs and other strange fluid were sitting on trays next to each bed. Most of the beds were empty, excluding two in the back, two young blonde boys who seemed to have some severe burn were laying in them with a nurse handing them each a strange blue liquid in a vial.
Once she was done turned around and almost tripped over her coat when she saw us. "Dear Sengario! What happened to her?" She quickly rushed over to us and began examining the many wounds Lilith had scattered about her body.
"Just some cuts lined with a bit of destruction essence, nothing too major. She used a bit of magic and then she passed out, must have over-exerted herself." Viktor said to the nurse, pointing the strange smoke coming out of the cuts.
She nodded and motioned for us to put Lilith on the bed to her left. We did so, slowly inching the stretcher on to the bed, making sure we didn't injure her any further. The nurse quickly ran into the backroom, returning only moments later with a bag full of a strange glowing white liquid. She got out an IV, putting one end in the bag and the other straight into Lilith's veins. I marveled as the cuts instantly began to slowly close up, the smoke almost completely dissipating.
"She'll have to stay here and rest for a bit, but she'll be perfectly fine." The nurse said to us. "I don't believe we've met before, who are you?" She asked, regarding me.
"Oh, my name's Avien, I'm new..." I answered nervously looking up at her. She had dark skin, close to the same color as Viktor's, and frizzy black hair held up with a maroon sweatband. She was wearing a pristine white lab coat with a golden roman numeral seven on it, just like all the other campers. She had a kind smile and black glasses, exactly what you thought of when you thought of a nurse.
"Well, it's very nice to meet you, I'm Faith, the head nurse here at Camp Seven. If you ever need any medical help you'll know where to find me." She smiled widely at me.
"Good to know. I'll keep that in mind." I smiled weakly back.
