"Alright, well, we can't do anything else here, but I have an idea, we should get you some gear, Avien." Viktor said, enthusiastically grabbing my arm and heading outside. "Bye Faith!" He yelled back as the door to the infirmary slammed shut.
"Where are we going Viktor?" I asked as I quickly dragged to a building just next door to the infirmary.
"We're going to get you some nice gear. If you're going to be staying here, you're going to need a weapon to be able to fight and train with." Viktor called back as we entered the building.
This building was far more impressive than the simple look of the infirmary next to it. The outside was plated with all kinds of intricate patterns and flashy materials. The whole armory looked like a giant vault where someone would keep an immense wealth of treasure. On either side of the door stood a large bronze lion with its mouth wide open like it wanted to eat someone.
Viktor opened the door and we stepped inside, greeted by an interior that was just as impressive as the outside. The inside was broken down into 5 long aisles, almost like a grocery store for weapons. Lining the walls of the aisles was everything from swords, to nun chucks, to what looked like a hand mounted cannon. Each aisle had a sign hanging above it that stated the kind of weapons that were on it.
Viktor turned to me and asked "So, what kind of weapon would you like, anything that's on a shelf you can have." He gestured to the many shelves.
I stood there, looking at him wide-eyed and confused "I don't know the first thing about weapons, let alone how to pick one..."
He looked at me and sighed "Well, you're going to have to learn eventually, cause here at camp, you have to fight to make any kind of living, except for healers, and you're a child of Strataros, so that's not really in the cards for you..."
I looked at him with a puzzled glance "Wait, so Strataros is the master of magic, my dad?"
Viktor nodded at me "He's a master of magic, he's the master of wind, to be specific, I suppose that explains the wind and lightning when you... you know..."
I shifted awkwardly around, hoping to avoid talking about him right now. "So, what kind of weapon do you use?" I asked, quickly changing the subject.
Viktor fumbled around on his belt and pulled off what looked like one of those leather pouches that you might hold your keys on. Inside were three oddly shaped blades that looked like those curved blades you saw in video games. "These are my three daggers; Red, Green, and Blue." He pulled them out of the pouch and brandished each of them. As the names implied, one glowed red, one glowed green, and the other glowed blue.
"Woah, those are pretty cool looking, but I don't really think I'm a dagger kind of guy, not that I really know what weapon fits me best, but I don't really think daggers are it..."
He returned the daggers to their pouch and back to his belt as he looked me over for the millionth time today "Hmmm... what about a scythe, what are your thoughts on that? I've seen a lot of wind apprentices use scythes, it becomes a lot easier when you can manipulate the air to make it faster." Viktor said as he walked down the aisle labeled "Heavy Weaponry". He tossed me a large steel scythe which I barely caught and then proceeded to drop to the floor.
"Holy crap, this thing is really friggin' heavy! How do people use these things?!" I said, while struggling to pry the scythe off the floor.
Viktor frowned as he came over and picked up the weapon, returning it to its shelf. "Maybe you should just look around and find your own weapon..."
I nodded and walked down the first aisle, this one was lined with lots of small weapons like daggers and knives and even some shorter swords. I didn't really find anything that enticed me too much so I decided to move on to the next aisle. On this one there were mostly bladed weapons, tons of longswords, some katanas, and a few war axes.
As I was looking through them, one sword in particular caught my eye. The handle was nothing too special, just a simple metal rod wrapped in leather and tipped with a green gemstone. The guard of the sword curved up on each side somewhat like the fangs of a wolf. The blade was split into three sections; In the center was the main part of the blade, on both sides were separate parts surrounding the blade, but leaving a small gap in the middle of the blade. The full sword was around three feet long and it felt perfect in my grip.
"So, you like that one?" Viktor asked, suddenly right next to me and admiring the weapon I had picked up.
"Yeah, it looks and feels pretty nice." I said, smiling at him
"Why thank you very much, I take great pride in my craft and I would have to say, that is one of my best pieces" He was grinning widely
"Oh, you made this one? That's really cool. Are all of the weapons made by campers?"
Viktor shook his head furiously "Of course not, do you see how many weapons there are here? We do make a lot of them, but we also get a bunch of them from the underground city, Gero"
I nodded at him "That makes sense, do all of the campers here know how to make weapons, is that part of the training you get?"
He chuckled, his hair flopping around as he did "No, of course not, only the descendants of Gigrias, like Julian and me make weapons, we have a natural affinity for it"
"Oh alright, that's really cool, I suppose the name Forges of Hell should have tipped me off to that one" I remarked, placing my hand on my side and laughing.
"By the way you should get the sheath for that sword, it'll be helpful, a lot easier to have a sword held over your shoulder than to constantly be holding it" he said pointing down the aisle where the sheath was.
I walked back down the aisle to where I had gotten the sword from and found the sheath. It was a simple holster made of the same leather as the grip on the handle of the sword, as well as a strap to hold it over my shoulder. After some time of awkwardly trying to adjust the strap and get the sword in, I walked out of the aisle, now fully equipped to fight anything, probably.
Viktor chuckled as he saw me walking out of the aisle clearly, he had witnessed my struggle with the sheath. "Wait, we just have one more thing left!" He held out his finger and pointed at my jacket "That's important to you right?"
I nodded and watched as another one of the glowing seal things appeared over the tip of his finger. I closed my eyes, anticipating something bad, but as soon as it came, it was gone and I heard him say "Done" I looked down at my jacket to see a glowing roman numeral seven like the ones I had seen on the clothes of the other campers. Viktor smiled and said "Well, Avien, you are officially a member of Camp Seven!"
