The lights of the infirmary flickered on, slowly engulfing the room in light, allowing us to see much better. It wasn't like I had trouble seeing in the dark, I just always hated how odd it looked, though I had grown accustomed to it over the years. Now that I thought about it, the whole part cat thing made that seem like something that was probably pretty normal. I still hadn't quite decided how I felt about being part cat, but I guess it was just another thing to make me stand out.
As I looked around the infirmary I noticed that there were almost no occupied beds, presumably all the other campers that had been here earlier had fully recovered and were most likely enjoying their dinner back at the guild hall. Lilith seemed to be in much better condition than earlier as well, most of the wounds were completely closed up or nearly there. The smoke from the wounds was only coming out in small quantities now, putting me a bit more at ease. I didn't like how that steam looked, it's shifting grey appearance reminding me of the dream that had started all of this.
We slowly made our way over to the bed Lilith was stationed at. She was sitting up with a pillow behind her to support herself, she looked better, but not very good. She had a faint smile plastered on her face, she needed us to think that she felt strong, most likely because she needed to feel strong herself. Her red wings were slightly extended when we had entered, but now they were slowly retracting as we were getting closer to her.
Viktor walked up to her first, presumably to make sure that it was okay for me to do the same, especially considering I was the one that had put her in here. I followed soon after, causing a bit of a pained and uneasy expression to arrive on Lilith's face, I really couldn't blame her for feeling that way.
"Hey Lilith! How're ya' feelin'?" Viktor asked, voice seeming higher spirited than his earlier tone.
She glared up at him, but her expression quickly softened "I'm doing... fine, I suppose" Her voice was hoarse and a bit solemn.
I peeked out from behind Viktor and waved nervously "Hey..."
Lilith's expression seemed to be a mix of frustration and concern, not quite sure how to feel about me at the moment "Hey there, Avien... are you okay...?" She asked dryly.
"Um... yeah, I'm doing better, I'm--"
I was cut short by Lilith's sharp tone "Before you say anything else, I need to ask you something..." Her eyes were stern and firey, very serious. "Did you have any control over what happened back at the Guild Hall?"
I shook my head, not knowing if I could speak even if I tried to. Lilith sighed, her expression returning to a more neutral expression "Alright, do you mind if ask a few other things"
I looked up and nodded, trying to gather together a bit of strength to talk, knowing I wouldn't be able to stick with simple head movements.
"What exactly was that thing?" Lilith asked
I looked away, slightly ashamed "His name is Sylak, he's lived inside my head for as long as I can remember, he's usually pretty quiet, but occasionally when I'm under extreme mental stress he gets out and takes over my body. It's only happened a few times, but nothing good has ever followed."
From the corner of my eye, I saw Viktor turn to the side, avoiding our gazes, clearly still feeling guilty about what he'd done. We all sat there for a moment in total silence, not even the distant revelry of the guild hall could be heard at this point. Lilith finally broke the tension, asking "Wait a second, why are you guys already back from dinner?"
This caused Viktor and I to exchange nervous glances, then returning to Lilith. "Well, some friends of mine were being not exactly the friendliest towards our pal Avien here, everyone in camp kinda knows about him now..."
Lilith let out a deep sigh "Of course, I mean it's not like we should expect them to welcome you with open arms, you could single-handedly throw this world into chaos and that thought terrifies them... no offense..."
I shrugged "It's no big deal, they're kinda right about me, I'm not supposed to exist and if they can't see past that then I suppose we just won't have anything to say to each other..."
Lilith gave me a sympathetic look, like a puppy when it wants to be fed "I suppose that's all you can do at this point, maybe things will change, they can't hate you forever, after all" she said, attempting to reassure me.
She was clearly trying to make me feel better, which I really appreciated, but it didn't really change anything, people would think whatever they wanted and honestly, I already had two friends, which was more than I had ever wanted. I gave her a smile in an attempt to show her that I was okay, causing her to scowl at me, clearly not buying it.
We all sat there in silence for what seemed like hours, we didn't really know what to say to each other right now. My eyes slowly drifted back to Lilith's smoking scars and I began to think back to the dream and the reaction everyone had when I mentioned the name Zeraph. What was his deal? And who was the other guy, Sengario? I looked back up at to Lilith and Viktor, realizing I could probably ask them, this was their world, after all and those two men were almost definitely connected to this world in some way or another.
"Could I ask you guys about something?" I said, finally breaking the silence and causing Lilith and Viktor's head to turn to me.
"Um sure, what is it?" Viktor asked incredulously.
I took a deep breath "It's about the two men I saw in my dream, Zeraph and Sengario... Who exactly are they?"
Lilith and Viktor exchanged some odd glances before answering "Well, they are essentially the two most powerful meanings in the entire world of essence" Viktor said.
"Sengario is the being of creation, where Zeraph is the being of destruction. Both depend on the other to continue existing. Currently Zeraph is imprisoned in a place known as Ser. Sengario resides in the place opposite that called Reizen."
I nodded, all of it made sense, or as much sense as I could make of anything in this world. They were basically like the equivalents to god and the devil for this world, even having heaven and hell. They were two extraordinarily important beings to this world, the same as the masters of magic.
