The ride to the governor’s office was long. When they finally arrived they waited even more to meet with the governor. When the governor finally walked in and gave Marlene a big hug, making her stiffen awkwardly.
“I’m so glad you are safe Mrs. Ashmore.” The short and slightly heavyset but overall charming man, greeted happily. “You’re brother tells me you have no memory of what happened 7 years ago.”
“That’s right.” Marlene answered. He walked over to the window and stared at the old clock tower in the distance.
“How I would love to find your secrets…”He said in a low voice. Marcus cleared his throat, the governor snapped out of his stare of the clock tower, “Well, I’ll do whatever it takes to help you get on your feet again.” said the governor happily. The rest of the meeting went by fast and then Marlene found herself with her brother in the garden room of her home.
“Marcus?” He looked up softly, “What happened to my husband?” she asked quietly.
“It’s not a good time.” He answered
“Please!” she shouted
Marcus sighed, “Before you disappeared...” He started but stopped suddenly, “I can’t tell you...” He said as he got up and left the garden room.
Marlene was in her husband’s study trying to find any clues as to what happened 7 years ago and to find out whom and where her husband was. She looked through books and stacks of old papers. She started to look through drawers and realized one was locked. She looked closer and saw the handle itself was the key. She played with it and wondered what the code was. Dejected she pulled the picture out her pocket of her and her husband thoughtfully and then turned it over. She saw the number written on the back of the picture and thought, Might as well try it out… She turned the gears to the right numbers, and then pushed the button in. Right then the drawer made a loud click sound. Marlene cheered softly and pulled it open. Inside was an old book, a diary. She grabbed it and tried to open it but it too was locked. So much for finding answers, she thought as she carried it to her room and soon fell asleep with it in her arms, dreaming of what could possibly be in the diary.
