Part 1: Chapter 3

Part 1: Chapter 3

Feb 08, 2018

Solomon, carrying some supplies from his room such as paper and pencils, knocked on the door to Skyler’s (or so he assumed, since this was the number Skyler gave him) dorm. He had thought of multiple other ideas for the project, but the majority of them were not within his skill set or anywhere near what would actually be considered a good project...at least to him. The best he had thought of was the hair changing experiment. Solomon waited patiently for Skyler to open the door, wondering if Skyler would have any homework.

Skyler woke up hearing a knock on the door. He looked at the alarm clock. “6:30? I’ve been asleep for 2 hours? Crap!” He heard another knock on the door. “Coming!” he called out, slipping out of his bed, and running to the door. He opened the door only to face Solomon. “Sorry Solomon I just woke up,” Skyler was flushed and his hair turned pink, his embarrassment evident. “Won’t you come in?”

Solomon couldn’t help but glance at Skyler’s hair as it turned pink. He didn’t seem to be fully aware of it...which was quite interesting actually. He ignored it for the time being. “I was actually wanting to stand out here the entire time.” Solomon told him, as seriously as he says anything else. He gave no signs that this was a jest, but nonetheless he wanted to see how Skyler would react to it.

Skyler smiled as embarrassment poured over him like tidal waves. His hair got darker and darker as it finally settled at dark red, He backed up and allowed Solomon into his room. His room was neat and orderly. The walls were blue with a half painted forest on one wall. Paints were on the floor, with paint brushes scattered about. The small kitchen had granite countertops covered in vegetables. “You hungry Solomon?” Skyler asked in a cracked voice. “It doesn’t matter, I’ll go make something anyways. You can go and set your things on my bed. ” Skyler backed away awkwardly and ran into the kitchen.

Solomon couldn’t keep his eyes from flickering to the top of his head, seeing the colors drastically change. He couldn’t help but feel a tinge of satisfaction knowing that his theory was correct: his hair does change color based on emotions after all. Solomon odecline, but closed it after Skyler accepted the offer for him. Rude. Solomon felt a small string of guilt get played as he heard the crack in Skylers voice, but waved that feeling aside as he stepped into the room and closed the door behind him. He took a glance around, not expecting it to have been organized. The paints were expected though. He went to go set his things onto the bed as he was told to do, then went to go stand in the...living room? Sitting room?...He didn’t know what to call it at the moment.

Skyler calmed down, his hair changing back into its normal teal color. He usually didn’t get embarrassed like that and he was suspicious of this Solomon guy. Was he messing with him? He wasn’t sure. But just for fun, he concentrated and turned Solomon’s hair dark purple. He smiled to himself and continued to cut the vegetables, for the stew he was making. Skyler thought himself to be a good cook and he had always wanted to cook for somebody.

Skyler ended up being so lost in his thoughts, he cut his index finger. Dark red blood spilled out of the wound and down his finger. Skyler hissed in pain, his hair turning white in the process. He ran out of the kitchen and into his bathroom to grab a bandaid.

Solomon was reading his book absentmindedly when he heard Skyler make an odd noise, and then rush out of the room. He couldn’t what was wrong, but his hair color was white. Did that mean he was in pain? Likely. Solomon tentatively stepped into the bedroom, knocking on the wall next to the bathroom to get Skylers attention. “You ok?” Solomon asked, although it sounded only slightly worried. Solomon was, however, more worried then he liked to think.

Skyler ran his hand underneath cold water, the blood washing down the drain. Skyler heard solomon walk in. He bit his lip from smirking when he saw Solomon’s hair. “I’m ok, Solomon, you’re very nice to show concern.” The pain intensified as the water quickly changed temperature and heated up. . Skyler’s hair flashed from black to white as he ripped his hand away out of the water.

Solomon caught Skylers eyes darting to his head, and the smirk he tried to suppress. He suppressed another sigh, knowing something was probably up with his hair again, and instead decided to direct the conversation to something other than himself showing concern for a stranger. “Your hair changes colors.” Solomon stated nonchalantly, biting back an insult. He had a habit of calling people stupid when they did hypocritical things, such as laugh when someone's hair changes colors but ignore his own hair.

Skyler paused, looking frustrated. He looked into the mirror and sighed. “I’m trying to control it. I don’t know when it happens and I hate it” Skyler said. . .his tone of voice on the edge of anger. He changed Solomon’s hair back to its original. He grabbed a bandaid and placed it on his finger. “I’ll go finish dinner,” he said walking out of the bathroom , bumping shoulders with Solomon as he passed him

Solomon might be dumb when it came to social interactions, but he knew anger when he saw it. Although it was confusing as to why Skyler would be enraged at his own hair changing unconsciously. Could he not just keep focus so that it would not change? He did not think it would be that difficult to accomplish. He moved to get out of Skylers way as he bumped into him, not one for physical contact himself.

Skyler sighed. He hated his hair changing colors. . . when his emotions are really all over the place, his eyes change colors too.

Skyler set down the steaming bowl of stew in front of the reading boy. “Sorry the stew took so long to prepare,” Skyler said. He smiled and set a spoon down for Solomon. “So what are we going to do for out project?” He asked. “Have any ideas?”

Solomon looked up from his book towards Skyler, setting it down as he placed the bowl in front of him. Solomon nodded a thanks. “Don’t worry about it.”. He told him, talking about the time it took to cook. “The only good idea I have is the hair thing, but that’s not very good either.” He admitted, a little irritated at himself. He picked up the spoon, starting to eat some of the stew.

Skyler looked irritated but smiled when Solomon began to eat. “Do you like it? And What about my hair” he ended the sentence with a hint of annoyance.

Solomon turned away from the bite he was about to take, shooting Skyler his own annoyed look. “I was referring to your ability to change hair color. Not specifically your hair changing.” Solomon informed him, taking a bite of the stew. “And the stew is very good, actually. Never had any like this. Although I’m, admittedly, not a stew guy.” Solomon said, any previous tone of annoyance gone.

“Yes I know what you’re talking about” Skyer snapped. He sighed. “Do you want to experiment with my hair? I don’t mind.” He took another bite of the soup and looked at Solomon with curiosity.

“I’ve already performed a minor experiment.” Solomon informed Skyler, speaking about his manipulation on Skylers emotions. “It would appear that my hypothesis was correct: you can change hair color with complete ease while I can not.” Solomon said flippantly. He wasn’t so sure himself how he could present this to a class, however, perhaps he could just allow Skyler to change his hair color and then attempt to repeat such with his own Manipulation? “See, watch.” Solomon stated, attempting to turn Skyler's hair to a bright white. He could change perhaps a few atoms, but it was only temporary if he changed focus to a different area of hair.

Skyler’s head felt weird. He wasn’t sure what was going on and with all of these emotions going through him, his hair was changing colors randomly. There was one section of his head that was burning. His eyes turned white as the heat intensified. He wanted to scream but the pain was so severe, nothing came out. Suddenly his whole head of hair turned white and he passed out, his glasses falling off his face as he hit his head on the table and fell onto the carpeted ground.
