Part 1: Chapter 4

Part 1: Chapter 4

Feb 08, 2018

Solomon stared at the space that Skyler had previously occupied, not yet fully comprehending what had just happened. It took him a few seconds to collect his scattered mind, but he immediately kneeled down next to Skyler to see if he was ok. He had no idea what had happened, if Skyler was hurt, or...or…

Solomon looked at Skyler’s stark white hair, absolutely sure it was due to his meddling. Perhaps the connection with hair color went both ways? And his tempering caused a sort of imbalance of emotions? Theories aside, Solomon looked at Skyler’s head, seeing whether or not it would have caused any fracture or concussion. He wasn’t a doctor, what was he doing? He didn’t know these things? Instead, Solomon prodded Skyler with a finger, seeing if he would wake on his own. Solomon let out a breath of air, trying to calm himself. Everything was fine, there was no way Skyler was really that hurt...right? He tried not to think about the other alternatives. Solomon stood up, gathering Skyler’s glasses in the process and setting them on the table. He would check back later, he supposed, and see if Skyler was ok. No need to get authorities involved...he really didn’t want to be blamed for this…

Skyler popped up, smashing his forehead with Solomon’s. “Ow!” he explained rubbing his forehead. He reached to the back of his head and winced at the memory of intense pain. He ran to the bathroom to look at his hair. “What did you do to my hair!” he screamed. His hair was it’s normal teal color but where Solomon had interfered, the chunk of hair was stark white. Skyler grabbed the chunk of hair and walked up to Solomon. “Fix this!” he cried.

Solomon recoiled from the hit, hissing slightly at the pain. He tried his best to be prepared for anything, just so that he wouldn’t blurt out some impolite cursing or whatnot incase, well, he got smacked in the head. He placed a hand to his head, rubbing it. Solomon looked up to Skyler as he entered, before turning away and pointedly ignoring his comment. He waited for the pain in his head to vanish, and for Skyler to possibly calm down, before stating simply “I’m not the one keeping the color there. My magic disappears when I stop focusing.”.

“Well then why can’t I change it!” Skyler asked. He looked like he was about to cry. “My hair is precious to me!” For some reason, Skyler’s mood changed almost abruptly. “So what are we going to do about the project? He asked stiffly. We should go check the forest or something, I heard there are lots of magical artifacts there.”

Solomon continued to ignore Skyler for the most part, or at least pretend to, until he suddenly changed topics. Solomon turned his head towards Skyler, curious as to why he was now so interested in the project. And the forest. “What? Just like that you don’t care about your hair anymore?” Solomon asked skeptically.

“Hair is a trivial thing” Skyer muttered. He had over reacted. He hated doing that. Maybe staying cold and distant will help Solomon not be so angry at me. He thought to himself. He felt the tuft of hair that turned white. It feels the same, he frowned. He looked at Solomon with a determined face. “Do you wanna go to the evergreen forest or the enchanted forest?” Skyler asked in a monotonous voice.

Solomon frowned at Skyler, not realizing Skyler was just trying to keep his own emotions down instead of mocking him. “Don’t be like that. We both know that you care for it. I’ll do what I can to try to change it, but I’m just saying that I don’t think it will work.” Solomon told Skyler, ignoring the later question. He waited for Skylers response, not wanting to try to change his hair color because of the obvious pain it had caused Skyler beforehand.

Skyler shrugged. “Answer my question Sol: Enchanted forest or the Evergreen forest.” He looked wasn’t sure what they were going to do there, but he would think of something before they got there. He started to grow impatient. He was upset about his hair but he could figure something out later.

Solomon sighed, rolling his eyes. “Evergreens fine.” he told Skyler flippantly. What did they really think they were gonna find out there? An artifact that turns lead to gold? A pendulate of ultimate magic? And previously extinct species? Ya, no. They would need a miracle for something like that to happen. They were more likely to come back with poison ivy then they were anything else.

Skyer sighed. “The evergreen forest has way less magical artifacts but we can try to look for something. I guess it would be more interesting if we found something there. People don’t normally go there.” He grabbed his coat and shrugged it on. “Ready to go?” he asked inquisitively.

“Yes, the Evergreen Forest is all those things, but the main reason is that I don’t want to talk to some annoying pixie.” Solomon told him, not too sure himself if he was joking. Solomon retrieved his jacket as well, before gesturing for Skyler to start out.

“But pixies are so nice to me!” Skyler said. He didn’t know why Solomon didn’t like them. THey were cute and always loved Skyler. Maybe it was because of his looks? He doubted it. He opened the door and walked out.

Solomon rolled his eyes as Skyler walked out, following a second after and closing the door. Of course pixies and fairies and whatnot would like Skyler, those kinds of creatures always liked the happy go lucky optimistic people. Never the realist. Solomon followed Skyler out to the forest, staying quiet and instead enjoying the environment. It was quite nice, actually, even if natural sight seeing had never been one of his favorite things to do.

Skyler was curious about something. “What are the extent of your powers Solomon?” he asked turning to look at the other boy.

Solomon thought for a second, not wanting to make it any more confusing than it would be for Skyler. “The only Manipulation I can use is materiakinetics, for one, and this Manipulation is very...different. I can control atoms, and molecules, although I can control a lot of them. I can change some properties of atoms so that gravity is reversed, they become flammable, conduct electricity. But I can also bind two things, kind of. As in I can pick up two rocks by only lifting on. Or something like that.” Solomon told him, his voice betraying that he was very interested in the subject.

Skyler thought about it. “It’s very different from mine. I can control my body, like, switch my emotions off, or switch my pain off. I can change my gender, I actually do that sometimes. I can look like a different person, but that really takes a toll on my strength. I can really can do anything that involves my body. I wish I had your powers though. Your powers are cooler.” He shook his head and smiled to himself.

Solomon nodded as Skyler listed of his powers, each one more or less expected. He imagined that Skyler could do all this for another person as well, perhaps he didn’t know yet? He didn’t know and didn’t want to assume. He fully agreed that his powers were “cooler” though. “My powers are not ‘cooler’, they have they’re uses just as yours has its uses.” Solomon told Skyler.

“Well we have our own opinions” Skyler mumbled. “What are we looking for ex-” Before he could finish his sentence, Skyler tripped, somehow breaking the ground and falling through a somewhat large hole.

Solomon backed up as the ground broke away, but slipped on a stray rock and started tumbling in himself. Solomon hissed as his side hit with sharp rocks, but the bright pain was instantly made obsolete as his head hit the floor of the hole and everything went black.
