Solomon closed the door behind him silently, not wanting to make much of a ruckus. He didn’t have the energy to close the door rudely if he wanted to anyways, too drained from the image of the decaying dragon playing again and again and again in his head. He unconsciously rubbed his thumb against the shell of the egg, enjoying the unnatural smoothness and warmth it yielded. He had held a kind of death grip on it ever since the waterfall, but that was not to say he crushed it or held it tightly. He was just...cautious, is all. Solomon, not knowing what else to do and as his feet were a bit sore, sat down onto the couch. He sat in silence for around a half minute before speaking up. “So...what now? Do we...do we tell someone about…” Solomon trailed off, not wanting to talk about the dust that settled at the bottom of the cave.
“I don’t think we should,” Skyler replied. He too couldn’t get that horrific image out of his head. He sat down and sighed rubbing his face with both hands. “She trusted us to keep it a secret and raise it on our own.” He looked up at the egg. “First thing we need to do though would be going to the library to research dragons. You up for that?” His hair brightened and he smiled.
Solomon nodded, agreeing that they shouldn’t tell anyone about this whole...ordeal. He didn’t like the idea of harboring a baby dragon in his room, however, seeing as how that was likely against the rules here. Pets weren’t even the most of their worries. They had a previously thought to be extinct animal in his room! Ugh, that would come later. Right now, they had some researching to do. “I would usually be ecstatic to go to the library for a day...but what about the egg? We can’t just leave it here, and we also can’t bring it with us. I also feel like it would need an incubator of some sort…” Solomon told Skyler, feeling the heat of the egg ever so slowly ebb away...or maybe that was his imagination. Either way, better safe than sorry.
“Eggs are supposed to be warm right? How do we keep it warm?” Skyler asked. “I could go to the library and you could stay here with the egg. Maybe I could find something about dragons that could help us.” Skyler stood up. “Is that ok with you?”
“Alright, fine. But hurry up! I don’t want to get burnt to a crisp by some other dragon because we accidentally froze this egg.” Solomon told him, shooing Skyler away towards the library. “Oh, wait.” Solomon grabbed his book that he had finished reading, handing it to Skyler “Return this for me would ya?” Solomon asked him. He considered asking Skyler to get him another book...but he didn’t trust Skylers tastes in books.
“Sure thing Solomon,” Skyler said taking the book out of his hand. He ran out and headed towards the library.
