Skyler walked into the room, arm full of books. He got some books on dragons and he also got some books he thought he might enjoy. He looked around and couldn’t find Solomon. He dropped the books on the small table next to the door and walked into the other room. He looked around but he didn’t see Solomon. He walked into the bedroom and he saw Solomon, asleep and curled up around the egg, probably trying to keep it warm. Skyler clapped his hands over his mouth to stop from laughing. “Solomon?” he said aloud
Solomon bolted awake, not that he sprang up and went into fight mode, but it was obvious that he was immediately aware of his surroundings. He got up, almost robotically, making sure that the egg stayed in the middle of the bed and wouldn’t fall off. “Did you get the books? Do we keep the egg warm or not? Anything else needed to be known?” Solomon asked Skyler, ignoring the elephant in the room.
“Were you just cuddling that egg?” Skyler asked smirking. “Because I really wish I got a picture of that” His hair turned bright yellow as he laughed. “Books are on the chair by the door,” he said still chuckling at Solomon.
Solomon looked at Skyler, a cold anger welling in his chest. He wouldn’t of had to do that if Skyler hadn’t taken his sweet time getting the books! Ugh. Solomon let his mind slip into the Heart of Stone, walking by Skyler and going towards the books without a word. He scanned through them, picking out one that seemed like it would have extensive knowledge on the subject of dragons and their eggs and sitting down to read it.
“You are so funny Sol,” Skyler said. “If it makes you feel any better, I’ll keep the egg warm myself.” Skyler picked up the egg and set it on the couch. He sat down cross legged and put the egg between his legs. . Skyler read in one of the books that a dragon’s egg needs to be heated up in almost extreme temperature. Skyler raised his body temperature. He couldn’t feel a difference, just a tingling sensation. It took a lot concentration, but he used to do this all because his family never had the money to heat up the house.
Skyler huffed not wanting to think about his family. He didn’t notice, but his hair had turned blue, and started moving around slowly. It moved when he was lost in thought. “Can you hand me a book Sol?” Skyer asked. “Don’t touch me though my skin is really hot.” Skyer cooled off his hands to normal temperature and held them out.
Solomon grabbed a book without looking at which one he grabbed, handing it to Skyler. He stopped halfway through, however, when he saw Skyler’s hair. Sadness? And a deep sadness at that, seeing as how Skyler’s hair was changing colors. Was this because of the dragon dying? No, that happened too long ago. Skyler wouldn’t be sad about it only now. Solomon placed the book into Skylers hand when he realized he was just sitting there with a book half outstretched, like a doofus. He resisted the urge to shake his head, and turned his attention back to his books. “...So the egg does have to be warmed?” Solomon asked Skyler, trying to make small talk so that he could bring up the subject of Skyler’s hair a bit more smoothly.
Skyler nodded. “To almost extreme temperature.” he mumbled, all of this heat radiating off of him was kinda draining him, but he needed to do this for a good hour before he could let go. It was hard to read and he needed to take off his glasses so they didn’t melt. He cleared his throat to get Solomon’s attention. “You have to probably wear oven mitts because my glasses are metal, but i need you to take them off my face.”
Solomon looked up towards Skyler, trying to see if he was being messed with or not. He couldn’t possibly...Well, they were keeping a dragon egg so he guessed anything was possible. In either case it was better safe than sorry. Solomon put the book down, making sure to remember the page number, and went into the kitchen quickly to retrieve an oven mitt. He carefully reached for Skylers glasses after he put the mitts on, picking them up and removing them slowly, care-his finger hurt. A lot! Solomon quickly let go of the glasses, clutching at his hand in pain and hissing. There must have been a hole in the mitts for some reason…
“Oh my gosh,” Skyler squealed. “Are you ok Sol? I didn’t realize they were that hot?” his voice was strained, trying to keep concentrated on his body temperature. He wanted to get up and help him, but he was definitely not strong enough to do that.
Solomon raised his good hand, in a show that he was fine and still functioning. He remained silent, however, and moved over to the sink in the kitchen. He turned on the cold water, letting his burnt hand cool down in the water for a few minutes. Accidents happen, no need to freak out over them.
Ok this is all i got muse/time for brb chemistry test
Skyler felt extremely guilty and his hair turned gray. He wanted to help but he couldn’t move. “I really am sorry Solomon,” he said.
“It’s fine, I should have been more careful.” Solomon told him quietly. He headed to the bathroom disinfecting and cleaning his hand before wrapping a bandage around it. He headed back to the living room, picking up his book.
Skyler sighed. He shouldn't have said anything. He clutched the egg tighter and continued reading his book. “It says here that dragons like to eat whole cows.” He said. “How are we supposed to accomplish that?”
“That’s likely not true...at least for a baby dragon.” Solomon told him, although he had a fear that it may be true himself. What would they do when the dragon grew up and had to eat whole cows? No, no, best not to think about such things. Fact of the matter was that the dragon was not fully grown yet. It would likely only eat a steak at most at this juvenile age.
“Well at least it kinda ages like a human,” It won’t get too big for the next few years,” Skyler added. So we should be able to handle it for now.” Skyer arched an eyebrow. “When will the egg itself hatch?”
Solomon sighed mentally, glad that they wouldn’t have a dragon suddenly twice as big as it was yesterday. Solomon scanned his book, looking for specifics on eggs, for a minute before he found the answer. “This says that the egg will hatch in a month, but not if it does not have suitable conditions. Those being that it has to remain in a moderately humid and very, very warm environment.” Solomon told Skyler, not looking up the whole time.
“So we turn on the shower, and let the steam fill the room?” He asked. “I can heat up a room pretty fast”
“Yes...that is certainly an option.” Solomon told Skyler, placing a finger on the last word and looking up to him. “But I don’t want a giant bill for using the water continuously.” he said nonchalantly. He didn’t have any other ideas, sadly, as to how they could keep the egg moderately humid though. There just didn’t seem to be another way…
“We’ll think of something,” Skyler said. He was starting to sweat, his energy depleting quickly. “I’m almost out of energy,” he said voice strained
“Your what?” Solomon asked him, unsure what he meant by that. Almost out of energy? But he wasn’t doing anyt-oh ya. Of course, Skyler was burning massive amounts of calories to produce that much heat. He must be exhausted. “Ok ok, stop doing what you're doing.” Solomon told Skyler. “We can find something else to keep it warm. I don’t think it will hurt it if its not at that temperature constantly, it just won’t hatch.” Solomon added, already thinking of what they could do to get it back to this kind of intense heat. One option included a volcano...ya, he marked that one off quickly.
Skyler turned down his temperature, returning back to normal. “Ahh! He screamed, as the hot egg touched his skin. He got up leaving the super hot egg on the couch. The minute he stood still on his feet, he toppled. His hair turned pink as embarrassment flowed through hi,. “This carpet is soft. . “ he mumbled. He looked up at Solomon who was shaking his head.
“...I’m going to have a burn mark on that couch now, I hope you know.” Solomon told him, matter of factly, and without a hint of empathy for the man. At least the couch was somewhat heat insulated, so it probably wouldn’t catch on fire. And he was sure that the school was used to furniture burning, considering they had newbie pyrokinetics here. He sighed, lending a hand to help Skyler up.
