~What about love stories? ~
What do you mean?
~I mean you hate love songs. What about love stories? ~
That is a wide-range of options. Can you specific?
~Romeo and Juliet~
Not a love story. That is a tragedy. A 3-day relationship between two teenagers that resulted in the deaths of 6 people. Amazing story, and I adore Shakespeare, but not a love story.
~wow. Strong feelings. Okay. The Notebook? ~
I have a soul, don’t I?
~What’s the difference between songs and stories then? ~
Well, I don’t like all of them. So, there isn’t much of one. But in the movies, it’s more personal, I guess. You see the whole story. And usually it’s just people falling in love. Not really all the cheesy bull and lies in love songs. But like I said, I don’t like most love stories, either.
~Fairytales? Like, classic household fairytales? ~
Almost all of them are absurd and stupid and teach women to give everything in themselves to men, or to rely on them. The only one I like is Beauty and the Beast and that’s mainly cause of Belle, not the story.
~P.S. I Love You? ~
I cry every time.
~Got any plans tonight? ~
I pause for a second, that wasn’t what I had been expecting.
No, not really.
~Cool. Wanna watch P.S. I Love You? I’ll bring the movie and a fluffy blanket. ~
I smile at my phone.
Why?
~We haven’t hung out much outside of the coffee shop. What kind of friendship is that? ~
Bring buttery popcorn and you’ve got a deal.

“I didn’t think you’d actually cry. Now I feel bad.” I wipe the tears from my face while we watch the credits roll.
“It’s just beautiful. He planned it all. He knew her so well. I just- “
“Why can’t you feel like this about love songs?” She hits me lightly with a small pillow from the couch.
“It’s different. We talked about this.”
“I know. But I feel like this is at least a start in the right direction for me.” She sands up to stretch, her blanket falling from her shoulders as she raised her arms above her head.
“Keep dreaming.”
“Speaking of which, it’s getting late. I’m gonna go home.”
“Need a ride?”
“Nah, I’m good.” She started gathering her stuff. “Hey, text me names of other movies you like like this one. We should start a regular movie night or something.”
“Maybe, I don’t think I like crying in front of you.” I hand her her shoes and start cleaning up the popcorn.
“Get over it. This was fun, I’d like to do it again.”
“I’ll think about it.” I hold the door open for her as she walks into the hallway. “I’ll see you tomorrow. Extra big tip if you get my order right without me telling you what it is.” I listen to her laugh as she walks down the hallway.
