-Earlier That Year-

Great, another year of high school to suffer through. My parents say that high school was their ‘golden years’ but to me, It just a place for people to hit on each other's weaknesses over and over again. Not a single person in that damn place comes with a positive attitude. After 2 years everything seems numb, even the jocks don't find the queer jokes funny but that doesn't stop them from harassing me constantly. Either way, I might as well attempt to start off this year with some expectations (more like hopes) to ease over the first day.

I walk down the stairs from my room. My house isn't the nicest but at least its quiet. I turn the corner into the kitchen and find the usual note on the table “Going out drinking tonight, be home tomorrow” - Mum. I grab my coat and vans backpack. Even though it's the first day of school, I haven't even bothered to dress up- just the usual basic dark hair, basic black clothes and I look somewhat normal.

The walk to school is nice and quiet, the back alleys and side roads are usually like this in the daytime. As I reach the school doors I hear a familiar voice- “Ivan!” Shouts someone in the distance who starts running towards me, As the footsteps get louder and my eyes focus I realize that the person is Niek, my one and only friend from last year and following him is his older brother and my incredibly hot crush, Lucian “Ivan! I am sooo ready for school. What are you wearing you look so gloomy!” niek starts jumping up and down like a child who had way too much sugar, “aha thanks?” was all I could manage to say because my eyes were locked on Lucian he caught me staring and I could feel him look into my eyes “How are you, it's been awhile?” he smiles and I feel my heart skip a beat “g-good” was all I could say before niek grabs my arm and drags me into the doors to look at the class lists. “WOW perfect, were all in the same class” his huge smile makes me smile with him.

As we walk into the classroom the teacher greets us all and gives us our seats me and Lucian are sitting across from each other while niek is on the other side of the room I can see him start to pout as he reaches his seat so I give him a smile and a thumbs up, we’d see each other at lunchtime. I glance over at Lucian he scoots his chair in and smiles at me, he looks like he was about to say something but then the teacher starting talking.
