I never thought I had the chance to tell her. Tell her that I missed her smile, but her eyes are dull. I loved her in the past years. Her soul was lost, eight months ago. She left me without a clue. No sign and no call. Forest green eyes now turn grey. The color forced away from midnight tears and broken dreams. The smile she wears is fake, blood red lipstick smeared over wine stains. Her laugh sounds foreign. Like a crack in a voice of someone else. My memories seem to be broken, as this isn’t the girl I fell in love with. She’s gone while this mystery woman pretends. Her small fingers wrapping around a crystal glass of poison. A silver band around her porcelain finger glistens in the light bouncing off the remains of a poor marriage. It was all an evasion of million dollar promises. What I see in her is not what I saw five years ago. The mask she’s wearing is cracked and torn. I can see through the concrete walls behind the makeup on her cheeks. A broken clock. Her head snaps to me, but not to my face, no she’s staring at my left hand. A lone tear rolls down her cheek crashing upon the table. A shipwreck in the ocean. She stands from her chair, her red dress forming into place. Fragile fingers tracing over a silver chain, over a low diamond pendant and back up to the small ears hidden behind blonde curls. She takes out the diamond earrings, holding the studs in her palm before she lets them fall into the red liquid of her wine. Heels tap against tile as her steps speed out of the dining hall and out the front door. I moved on. She lost her heart. What can money buy you?
