Skyler couldn’t really move. He focused on the part of the brain that controls the muscles and forced himself up almost robotically. He staggered to the kitchen where he grabbed a chair and plopped down. “I. . .need. . . food” he gasped. He felt like he was going to pass out.
Solomon backed up as Skyler got up on his own, and watched him stumble into the kitchen. “Skyler. Stop. Moving. You’ll overexert yourself more than you already have.” Solomon chided him, digging into his fridge for what he thought might be energy packed. He ended up getting some of the few fruits and vegetables he had: some carrots, an apple, a bottle of water, etc. He wasn’t too knowledged on what was good for energy. Regardless, he gave each item to Skyler one at a time, making sure he didn’t eat everything too fast.
Skyler was eating like a pig. God he was hungry, He scarfed down the apple, gulped down the water, and chowed down on the carrots. He swallowed. “Hey Sol, how are your ribs? Those need to be healed” he said.
“...They’re fine.” Solomon told him, having forgotten somewhat himself. Now that Skyler mentioned it, he felt the familiar pang of pain as he thought about them again, but ignored the pain nonetheless. Now that he had a clearer head, he was certain that they were just bruised. He hadn’t fallen that far, and he hadn’t seen anything he could have landed on either when he was looking around the cave. Speaking of caves…”Should we tell someone about the cave? They shouldn’t find anything...incriminating in there. And I don’t like the idea of someone falling in there and breaking a leg.”.
“No we should definitely keep it a secret. Let other people ‘Think’ they’ve discovered it. That way we are out of the picture.” Skyler said quietly. “Also you got anything else? I’m still pretty hungry.” '
Solomon nodded, digging in his fridge, which was quickly emptying, for something. Solomon resisted the urge to sigh, seeing as how there was nothing left in the fridge, and headed for the cupboards. “How about a nice ole healthy bowl of ramen?” Solomon asked Skyler, started to make a package. He waited for the ramen to cook before handing Skyler of bowl and fork.
Skyler nodded at Solomon in thanks. He was strong enough to stand up now, but he decided to save his strength and scarfed down the noodles. “So what are we going to do in the month that we have the egg?” he asked, finally being able to keep a steady voice.
“Well I doubt a full month will be needed. It could be a week for all we know. We don’t know how long that egg has been incubated by its mother.” Solomon told him nonchalantly. “But in the case that it is a month...I’m not sure.” Solomon admitted. He would have to make a planner sometime soon, preferably before the egg hatched. “Any ideas?” Solomon asked, not expecting much.
“Yeah, I think I might have one” Skyler said with a dangerous glint in his eyes. “If you can trick my body into thinking that it’s cold while I’m asleep, I can heat up the egg in my sleep, and since I’m sleeping, I’ll be fine when I wake up. Also if this works, we can use this as our project, You could give me something that makes me fall asleep and when I get hot enough you should fry an egg on my arm or something!” Skyler said, voice rising in excitement.
“Alright, we can do that. But we have to put something under you so you don’t burn my furniture any more than it already has been.” Solomon told him, with a glare. “I can probably find a rubber mat or something of the like.” Solomon told Skyler. “And I am not cooking anything on you.” He told him strictly.
“How else are we supposed to test out the heat?” Skyler asked. He lowkey wanted to tell Solomon that he had already conducted this experiment at his home. But he didn’t. He didn’t want to seem like a fool.
“We don’t have to cook something to tell that something is hot.” Solomon told him, almost in a scolding tone. “We can use actual tools to measure the change in body heat you exert.” Solomon said, like it was the most obvious thing ever. “And we could hook it up to a computer so that it can generate a graph with a program. Showing just how much of a difference of body heat you can make.” he finished. He almost scoffed at the idea of cooking something for the presentation. It wasn’t scientific in the slightest.
“Yes,” Skyler agreed. “But he said we needed to present in a fun and interesting way. Cooking an egg on my arm is definitely fun and interesting” He argued back. He touched the back of his head. “Is my hair still white back here?” he asked.
“Ok, fine. We can do it both ways. You can cook your egg, and I’ll collect the data.” Solomon told him, obviou not wanting to argue about something so dumb. Solomon leaned to look at where Skyler was pointing. “Yep. Still white.” Solomon told him flippantly.
Skyler sighed hair turning blue. “That’s ok,” he said quietly. “It’s just hair.” He looked up at Solomon and smiled. “Let’s get to work!” he said, jumping up. His hair was still blue, but he was fine with it.
Solomon looked at Skylers smile, then to his hair, his smile, then his hair. “You…” no, it was better left alone. “Nevermind. “ Solomon said, getting up and putting his book down. “Alright, so I can go ask for some tools from Mr. Barber.” Solomon said.
“First I need my glasses.” He got up and walked to the counter , grabbing his glasses. “Let’s go!” he exclaimed, fixing the glasses on his face. He walked up to Solomon. “Ready!” he said cheerily as he opened up the door.
Solomon rolled his eyes. “As ready as I’ll ever be.” he mumbled to himself, walking out the door and heading towards the classroom. He knocked on the door to the classroom, opening the door and entering after he heard a “come in”. “Good afternoon, Mr. Barber. Sorry to disturb you, but do you happen to have any tools we could use to see the change in heat?...Something a bit more advanced than a thermometer I mean. It would be useful if it could be plugged into a computer.” Solomon asked, walking up to the desk that Mr. Barber sat at. “Ah, yes of course.” Mr. Barber said, opening a drawer in his desk and grabbing out a few things. After not finding what he wanted, he returned them and went over to a larger cabinet off to the side. He moved around a few items in there before pulling out an item with an “Ahah! There it is!”. He handed the instrument to Solomon, obviously (except to Solomon) curious about what the need for such a tool was.
Skyler smiled and turned his heels and started to walk out. “Hey Skyler!” Mr. Barber called out. “What’s wrong with your hair?” Skyler paused, biting his tongue in irritation. He turned around and faced the teacher smiling. “An experiment gone wrong I’m afraid,” he said before turning around once more and heading out of the classroom .
