It always sits there, just above the clouds, its wings sometimes stretching out to cast a large shadow down right in the town’s square. It never made a peep, not even a yawn. If it left at night, nobody would know. They only knew it sat there because of its shadow and the occasional moments where one could look up and see it’s outline, without the sun’s rays blocking the view.
No one tried to climb the peak, not because they were necessarily scared, but because none were very interested. It was a small community, after all, worrying more over crops and the very little trade they received than the monstrous creature that spent its days tanning underneath the sun.
Besides, the climb was treacherous, to say the least, and of course, the creature appeared to be just fine in solitude, not bothering them at all. Why go bother it, if it did no harm?
Still, the curiosity was there. It had been there as long as the creature, lasting the centuries it had been present, but it never grew to inspire anyone to take a peek. It was a waste of time to make the climb for a silly look when there was work to be completed.
The children were happy enough to make up some drawings and little stories about the being and the adults were quite happy to indulge them.
For any who asked, the village always said the same thing. The creature had been there since time began and it sits at its peak, day and night, not disturbing the peace. Always and forever.
